I Should Have Read That Book Tag

Looking at my scroll of Goodreads, there are certainly quite a few books that I should have picked up by now. I have a habit of pushing all books into the backlist in favor of the ARCs and new releases, so trust me, the list is longggggggggg. I thank Lauren @ Twenty-Seven Letters for tagging me to call myself out. Lauren has a fantastic blog, whose aesthetic I love, content I always enjoy, and more. Make sure to check out her blog for her own take on this and more.

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

Oof, so many. There are definitely a lot of books that I get recommended, and I, well, take forever to get to. I’m not sure why I do this. I almost always enjoy them, but it just takes me forever to do it. One that is more recent is Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly, which Sha told me about.

A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t read it

21414439

TRUTHWITCH. Let’s say it altogether now, TRUTHWITCH. I promised myself that I would read it last year, and here we are yet again, with me not having read it. I bought it on an impulse buy, and it’s haunted me every since then. It’s been on since 2016, so I mean, maybe this should be the year?

A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing

I’m participating in the Read a Sequel or Two Challenge this year for just this reason. The first one that came into mind is Kingsbane by Claire Legrand. I’m forever terrible at getting back to series after I’ve read the first one and have to wait for the next one to come – I forget way too easily.

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but have never actually read

5289

*feels personally attacked because the above book has been sitting on my “Currently Reading Shelf” for like 3 years because I like the sound of all his works but still have yet to read more than, like, 3*

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

17675462. sy475

Ooooooh, so many. There will be times that I fall deeply into the hype, and I have to break down and read it. Other times, I stay far, far away. The Raven Boys is a book that forever teeters on this edge for me. Also, like, um, Harry Potter.

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just haven’t picked up yet

5971165. sx318

My family has all of Philippa Gregory’s books, and I’ve enjoyed all of the adaptions that I’ve seen of them, so I still have these books on my TBR to read sometime. But I so rarely read adult books – especially historical fiction that doesn’t involve ghosts – so this is forever a struggle to read.

A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

Can I say HP again? I feel like it’s always there – especially with the million of different versions of it.

Tagging…

I just tagged a decent amount on the BPR original tag, so I tag you if you should have read any of the books that I picked on this list by now as well!

What do you think? What are some of your answers for this? Should you have read these as well by now? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. Now I want to read Stepsister, it’s so intriguing.

The Raven Boys is the best book in the series (in my humble opinion), and I think you might enjoy it. Maggie Stiefvater has an incredible writing style! There is a sort of ethereal feel to her stories, and she includes many everyday details and a lot of banter/sarcasm/witty remarks to make the dynamics more compelling. I hope you’ll like it when (if) you read it!

  2. I want to get to “Stepsister” ‘cause I hardly actually hear about it but I think it’ll be a hidden gem!

And I’ll drag you kicking and screaming into the “Truthwitch” fandom if I have to lol; read it 😛!!

  3. Truthwitch is so good! The third book in the series is the best though, Bloodwitch… perfection (*chefs kiss*) Personally didn’t love The Raven Cycle that much (shrugs) and just looked at my want to read list on goodreads only to find out that it now has almost 300 books on it… so your not alone in having a ton of unread books haha! Great tag and lovely answers Mandy 🙂

I can definitely understand how The Raven Boys is not for everyone but it is one of my favourite series ever, I love the feel of the stories and all the characters! It did take me a while to get into this series though!!

    1. Thank you, Sophie!! And ooooooh okay, I’m definitely moving it up my TBR pronto. 🙂
AND YES. I’m not sure what it is, but I keep saying I’mma read it…and then never do it. This year will be the year for us, haha.
Ooooh okay, good to know. I feel like I hear more people say that than not, so I think it should be good.

    1. I’m not sure what it is about that book, but it seems to hang out on a lot of people’s TBRs, haha. And lol, I feel like that’s what I hear more than the bad, so I’m getting more excited for it. Thank you, Margaret!! 🙂

  5. I’ve loved all of the Philippa Gregory adaptations that I’ve seen as well but still need to read her books. I should really try to read a couple this year. And The Raven Cycle (I’m so glad I’m not the only person who hasn’t got to that series yet).
