March Wrap-Up / April TBR

March was an intriguing month…and by an intriguing month, I mean, it was the month of 3 crowns. Literally, almost all of the books that I read at the end of the month teetered between two and three crowns. So can we just call it Meh March?

I read a total of 14 books this month, so let’s check out what made me fall apart over the greatness that was the month before.

The Best of the Month

Well, let’s just talk about the best book of the month: These Vicious Masks. It’s been a while since I read this book, and since the third book was coming out and I could barely remember what was going on, I demanded that a reread was in order. And I ended up with a favorite reinstated to that elusive favorites shelf. Can we all just break out the slow clap since we know I’m a total mess about the favorites shelf and a book getting back on it after it had been so rudely kicked off by myself?? IMPOSSIBLE (actually, not, since quite a few get kicked off because I can’t remember them because I have zero long term memory).

The next two best books of the month were These Ruthless Deeds and Wires and Nerve Vol. 2. Both were quite good, but were missing a little something from making them great.

The Meh of the Month (aka just about everything)

I don’t know what happeneddddddddddddddddddddd. Last month brought me SO many good reads. I was all like you get a five crown, you get a five crown, eh, don’t go too book happy, Mandy, so the last one gets a four crown. But this month I was wheeling and dealing two and three crowns left and right. 9 out of the 14 books that I read got two or three crowns. One wasn’t crowned, but it would have been there as well. WHY MUST BE I BE A BOOKISH MESS?

Notable reads: The Wicked Deep was super pretty but omg, did I have a struggle. That review is going to be me being a rambling mess (aka 11 paragraphs later and overuses the thoughts so many times). Now a Major Motion Picture was a bit conflicting for me since it’s literally me inside a book but I had a few issues despite the book jumping inside my head and putting everything I love inside a book (Ireland, feminism, fandom, Florence + the Machine, AND SOME BASTILLE NAME DROPS).

The Worst of the Month

Oh, hey, My Soul to Save. I’m looking at you. 1 crownnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. That buddy read review is going to be rough.

March Book Haul

I didn’t actively seek out books???? WHAT IS LIFE. I had a few books that came from pre-orders I did at Christmas times, so I like to think of them as pleasant surprises that I got instead of things that are going to finally appear on the credit card bill which will cause me a :O face. Anyhoooooooooo, let’s check out magically appeared:

  • The Wicked Deep (see above)
  • Heart of Iron (see above)
  • These Vengeful Souls (wow, I was really feeling the new books this month)
  • Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
  • The Falling Between Us by Ash Parsons (thank you, thank you, thank you, Penguin Teen!)

April TBR

I really don’t have anything pressing to read this month. I was determined to read a lot of the books that I was gotten that month, and I think I did a pretty good job with it. Now, I honestly feel super lost about what I actually want to read this month??? Be prepared to see a lot of random mood reading happening.

  • The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson (whether just the story or the entire collection of his work is up in the air)
  • The Falling Between Us by Ash Parsons
  • Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller
  • AND I DON’T KNOW. Honestly, anything could just pop up on my radar because the mood reading will probably hit me hard and then I’ll just be lost in a sea of trying to fix my physical TBR so I can buy more books. IDK. I guess we’ll see what this month brings???

The Other Randoms

Sha and I will be starting a new blog challenge for the month of April. Each day we’ll take on a different human right and slide it on in as it applies to YA books, BRAND NEW BOOK TAGS (that’s right – TAGSSSSSSSSS), and some of Sha’s makeup greatness. It’s just be a little something extra to the the posts that you kind of sort of tolerate from us already?

Work might become super intense in April, so that will be intriguing. And I totally need to get back into my audiobook zone, since I totally failed and need to up my book game.

What do you think? What books did you read this month? Did we read any of the same? What was your best/worst of the month? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I read My Soul to Save back in 2014, and I don’t remember hating it. I did re-read my review, and I did complain about the story dragging in parts. Sorry you hated it.
