November Book Haul (well, so far?)

It has been such a long time since I’ve done a book haul, but I’m super pumped about the books that I picked up recently – so I figured I would do a little mini book haul. Thanks to finding some great deals, which finally allowed my credit card to allow ME to buy some books. XD I think it’s mentally preparing itself for all the books that are coming out in 2018, and it informed me I needed some chill. These few snuck in at least.

The Rest of the Grisha Trio that I Never Got Around To

Yeahhhhhh, I read the first book of the Grisha trilogy, but I wasn’t that much of a fan. I think I put the expectations of Six of Crows on it, and it just…it’s not Six of Crows. My friend just finished binge reading it a few months back, and I happened across the cool new edition of the first book and got it…so I just need to continue the rest of the story and get it together and finish it. But first I have to reread the first one, because I literally have forgotten giant parts including a very important main character??? So, um, I think a reread of the first book and binge read the rest of the series so I can say I’m officially read all Bardugo??

The Book That I Bought For the Pretty Cover Underneath

Spindle by E. K. Johnston

spindle

Yeahhhhhhhhhhh, that happened as well. E. K. Johnston has the coolest covers underneath her actual covers, this book was at a bargain store, and well, Mandy snatched it up because Mandy needs more covers in her book life. And it is a Sleeping Beauty retelling, I believe, so, um, of course I need it even moreeeeeee.

The Book I’m Giving a Chance Because I Was Sold By Time Travelers

The Walled City by Ryan Graudin

the walled city

I just finished Invictus by Ryan Graudin, and it was quite good. I had a few slight issues with it, but overall, it was a super fun read. I saw this book at the same bargain shop, and I figured I would give it a try. Has anyone actually read this one, because it seems to be the one Ryan Graudin book I never see anything about??

The Epicness from Sourcebooks Fire

Furyborn by Claire Legrand and Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp

This was a surprise bit of mail yesterday, and I am kind of crying??? I have seen some really good reviews for Furyborn, and I heard that it is an amazing fantasy book and sort of fairytaleish?? WHICH SOUNDS AMAZING. I am so hyped for it. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for sending this over to me, because I think I need to quickly go binge read it in a corner somewhere. And they sent me a bonus book, Before I Let Go. I’ve actually never heard of this one? I’ve seen the cover a few times on Netgalley, but I’m trying to avoid binge requesting ones I don’t know too much about. I started it yesterday, too, and it’s a bit odd so far. But we shall see! I’m still dying, y’all. *forever screaming*

I’m sure this will not be the end of the book haul for November, but I’ve been doing better?? Have I finally experienced book buying fulfillment…or just scared by the book bills?? What about you? What have you picked up this month? Have you read any of these and what are your thoughts? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I’m here like.. *so proud I didn’t buy any books this month*
And then went to “Why do I live in Belgium and can’t get freaking physical ARC’s?” D:
That would soooo help my “not allowed to buy books”-frustration. xD

Furyborn is starting to pop up everywhere though! It’s making me curious!
I haven’t even started the Grisha-trilogy yet.. I own them? Does that count? :’)

    1. YAYYYYYYYYYY, Kathy!! That is such a great accomplishment since I know you were struggling with it.
And oh noooo. Yes, that really would so help the frustration. D: D: D:

And yes! I kept spotting the cover around and I’m like, I MUST KNOW. It seems super intriguing!
And lol YES. That super counts. I started the first one and I don’t remember anything of it, so I mean, I’m kind of at the same point as you?? XD

        It would!

        Indeed!!
Hahaha, I guess we are! We need to fix that.. Someday.. Like, if we ever have time and aren’t drowning in other books that need to be read first..

  2. Wow the new grisha trilogy covers look so good! Although I kind of prefer the old ones haha.. Even though it’s not as good as SoC I still think you should give it a chance because STRUMHOND a character you’ll meet in the second book… He’s amazing!!

    1. I always have a laugh Kyera, because I’m always like, I LOVE THAT AUTHOR SO MUCH, and then I realize that I don’t even have a physical books. The new editions are quite beautiful, though. 😉

  3. I’ve been seeing Furyborn everywhere and hoping I can get one on NetGalley. That’s so cool getting ARC’s in the mail, I’ve always wanted stuff like that lol. Can’t wait to see what other books you haul 🙂

    1. Yes! I hope so too! It sounds so interesting. And yes! I found their email, and I thought I would give it a chance? and lol, I’m sure I’ll be breaking my unofficial book ban for myself. And I’m eager to see if you end up hauling anything up yourself! 🙂

  4. I really never even gave the Grisha Trilogy a 2nd glance until I read Six of Crows. Am I destined to be disappointed when I finally go read them?

    1. I did the same! I was never drawn to them until I read SOC. I thought the first one was okay? I mean, it definitely wasn’t Six of Crows, and I think that’s where I fell apart. I kept wanting to compare it to Six, and I think if you don’t compare, it really is a solid read. It just doesn’t quite match up to the level.

  5. GREAT HAUL MANDY!!!!
SO MUCH EPICNESS IN ONE! You have some great reading ahead of you!!
Okay just like a quick heads up, the Grisha trilogy is just so not SoC. Same world, different characters, problems and this is technically pre-SoC. So you really have to keep an open mind. I know this is not everyone’s fave series, but THAT important character steals the show for lots of reasons so I do hope you enjoy the rest of the books!

    1. Thanks so much, Rendz! 😀 😀 😀
And okay, I am prepared. I can deal, I think. I’m not going to do what I did last time and not place SOC levels on it. I GOT THIS. I THINK. AND THAT IMPORTANT CHARACTER WILL ROCK IT.
