Harry Potter Book Tag

Two book tags in two days?! What is this madness?

Anyway, I would like to thank Ava from Reads, Rhythms, and Ruminations for tagging me in this super fun tag. Even though I have yet to read the Harry Potter series (*waits for the horrified gasps to subside*), this tag was a great one to do! When I sat down to do this tag, I also had one of my best friends over. She is the super bookish friend I’ve mentioned a few times on the blog, and she was the one I was originally supposed to create this blog with. She is also my partner in crime for The Game of Life: Books edition, where we play the epic board game except with our favorite book characters as our little car pieces. It’s far more entertaining than the creators of the game ever intended it to be – especially when one of your characters is Kaz Brekker and he’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize and planting trees with his car full of two sets of twins. Trust me, the giggles would not subside for that one.

I will now present to you, my friend in our first Be Our Guest guest post/tag…The Duchess of Books, Amy! Her favorite princess is Tiana, and her book feels include Six of Crows, Shadowhunters (well, basically anything by Cassandra Clare), The Lunar Chronicles, Percy Jackson, and the Red Rising trilogy. You may be seeing more of her in the weeks to come.

A book whose theme you found interesting. but would like to rewrite it

Mandy: I just finished Wanted by Betsy Schow (review coming tomorrow for it), and while I loved the premise and a good deal of the things that happened in it, it definitely needed to be reworked quite a bit to have a logical and easy flow. I think this Book Princess could handle that. XD

Amy: The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks – I liked the story, but there wasn’t enough emotion or connection between the characters. I feel like it was dead. I would have put a lot more feels in it…it could have been a lot better. I will probably not read any more of his books again. It’s kind of sad when the movie has the same exact storyline, but it manages to do it better.

Mandy: The movie was pretty good, though. Although that might have had something to do with Scott Eastwood.

The first book in a series that got you hooked.

Mandy: My Fair Godmother by Janette Rallison. After reading that book, I knew I would devour any other book she put in that series, and always underneath the surface, I’m ready for more from this series even though Rallison hasn’t even begun to figure out what’s happening with it.

Amy: The first book of the Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel) by Cassandra Clare was just addicting. It got me hooked.

A book you wish you could have right now

Mandy: Umm…I think we all know what is coming (*cough, Caraval, cough cough*), but I’m going to go with something a little different for once, and choose The Truth about Happily Ever After by Katie Cozzo. Look at me, changing things up!

Amy: I think I’m going to go with Iron Gold by Pierce Brown. I just finished the Red Rising trilogy, and I just can’t wait to see what Pierce has in store…to kill me next.

A killer book. Both senses. Take it as you’d like

Mandy: Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. Even though I seem to be in the minority, I loved this book, and the whole premise of nun-like assassins killing for Death? Yeah, it’s a killer book in more ways than one for me.

Amy: Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. Duh.

(She didn’t really say “duh” but when I asked her about this one, I just felt the duh on her face XD)

A book you found really confusing

Mandy: Well, Wanted by Betsy Schow is definitely up there. I didn’t understand what was happening for a majority of the read. Since I already chose that one, I’m going to have to go with Where Futures End by Parker Peevyhouse. I only read about 20 pages, but I still have no a single clue what I read in those 20 pages.

Amy: Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke was a mess. I thought I knew what was going on, but so confused at the same time. I’m not even sure if I liked it or now – I’m still so confused. So many questions.

Your spirit animal book

Mandy: Ummmmm…oh gosh. I don’t know. It should probably have something to do with Princesses, should it not? Oh, wait! Maybe The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts, since it combines three things I love: book blogging, cheesy adult romance, and nerd-hot cuties.

Amy: Home for a Dinosaur by Eileen Curran. Boom, boom, boom, I love Bronty.

Mandy: I’m not sure I have words for that, but that was amazing.

A dark and twisted book

Mandy: The Telling by Alexanra Sirowy. It is super twisty, and it’s decently dark. This book had me in love with Sirowy’s creativity.

Amy: I don’t read dark and twisted books really.

A book that surprised you in a great way. Reveals to be more than it is

Mandy:  Hmmm…probably The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James. Just looking at the cover, I thought it was going to be a boring read, but it turned out to be a fantastic book that is definitely one of my favorites.

Amy: My Lady Jane – I wasn’t expecting that it would be that great. It was hilarious.

And look at that – we didn’t list Six of Crows for a single book. I guess the Game of Life with them wore us out? XD Anyway, I would like to thank the Duchess for participating in this with me!
