You may be sitting there going, Mandy, when did you read The Fifth Wave, because I’m pretty sure that I have never heard you even mention this book ever before on the blog. So, what are you doing posting about a book way into the series?
Well, with the third book releases today, and I mean, what is the better time to revisit the series now that the third book is out in paperback. Here are 3 reasons that I’m getting into the hype of the paperback release of The Last Star, and why I am so excited to read this series now!
I have finally figured out this was not the series I thought it was.
For the longest time, I got this book series confused with another series. They both involved world-ending shenanigans with the main girl running off on her own and meeting some mysterious guy. I was forever confusing these two with each other, and that book was not pleasing. However, now that I know this isn’t the book, I’m more than pumped to try it again.
I saw the movie, and I was hooked.
So, I did read this book a while ago – okay, started this book and stopped for some odd reason – maybe I wasn’t feeling it at the time since I’m weird about my aliens or had it as a library book. But I stopped. But I was like, oh, I can watch the movie because I technically read the book. It meant to just be something to feed my YA love and be background noise, but I loved it. I thought it was so interesting, and I can’t wait to read how it actually is – and continue the story.
I heard it could be life-changing.
The always wonderful Nadwa @ Painfully Fictional (um, are you following her yet because seriously she’s so amazing – click the link above) talks about this series quite a bit, and more than a few times, she has talked about how this has made her think, changed her views, etc. I have yet to read a book that has really, really rocked my worldview (I take book for entertainment to heart so I totally miss the epic real world books). I totally am interested to see if this book will do that for me as well.
Um, what are you waiting for?
Well, apparently I was waiting for the release of the paperback release of the last book, and I wasn’t even aware of it. I’ll definitely be trying this series again, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store.
More About The Last Star
The enemy is Other. The enemy is us.
They’re down here, they’re up there, they’re nowhere. They want the Earth, they want us to have it. They came to wipe us out, they came to save us.
But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves.
In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves…or saving what makes us human.

What do you think? Have you read this series? What did you think? Are you excited/interested about the release?? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
I’m so hoping to turn a Snow White rating into a Mulan here. 😉
Thanks for the mention, Mandy! I love this series to pieces 😭😍😍 I’ll be forever grateful if you decide to give these books another shot. The first one was a bit slow-paced at first, but you’ll be mind-blown by the time you finally reach the good parts (almost halfway into The 5th Wave) I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since the release date of the final book.. Today’s its first year anniversary, am I right??

Of course! You’re the one that convinced me to try this again. I definitely will be! 😀 And I think that was what my issue was – it was too slow at the beginning and I didn’t have book chill at the time. I hopefully have more now. But yes, it was the first anniversary! :O

I think I had a somewhat similar experience with this series, I read the first book when it came out and really enjoyed it, but never got around to reading the rest of the series! Since then it sort of just fell off my radar. But after participating in this blog tour myself, I’m excited to read it again, like you said! 🙂

Yes! I do that with a lot of books, and then fail to get back with it. I totally need to get back to this one as well…and especially the first since I remember nothing. But as you said, the blog tour totally has me geeked again. 🙂 Checking out your post as well!

I haven’t read this series, though I did see the movie and liked it.
I think my issue was (and it’s a pretty lame issue) that I LOOOVED The Monstrumologist. I loved it for what it was, but I also love it because it was like nothing I’ve ever read before. When The 5th Wave came out it felt like Yancy was hopping on the Dystopia/Apocalyptic train that Hunger Games started and it felt so similar (the synopsis) to so many other books.
Often I regret that and think about reading it, and I may eventually, but I also really want him to write more Gothic Horror like Monstrumologist.

Ahhhhhhh, gotcha. I think that was sort of the same issue I had as well. Everyone seemed to be jumping on the same train, and I totally thought this boo and this other book were the exact same for a long time. But I do know what you mean. I’m definitely going to have to check out that other book you mentioned because it gothic horror does sound quite intriguing. The movie was really good, though. 😀

The movie was really good! That was when I started to doubt my not reading it. 🙂

Omigosh, yes. It took me forever to realize that was what was happening. For the longest time, I’m like, goodness, why aren’t all of these bloggers answering me back? XD And finally a few months ago someone told me it was going to their spam folder and I’m like, it all makes sense. Glad you told me and I found them!! 😀 I will now be checking that a lot more lately.

LOL!!! I love that admin dashboard. I use it to look through my media library without going through a draft.

First, you wonder what you would do in that world/situation. Every time I thought I had figured something out, I was completely thrown for a loop. Even by the end of the series, I didn’t know what to think. It definitely makes you think in a good way, at least that’s my opinion.

Ahhhhhhhh. That does sound like it is in a good way. That sounds amazing. :O

I am so excited to re-read this series! It’s also been so fun seeing everyone posting about this blitz today and seeing the creative spin people put on it! I do LOVE these books!

Oooooooh, I didn’t know that. Now, I’m even more excited to read them again. I feel like I was in too much of a rush for the first book and was like, come on, get it together and was just done. But now, I have learned book chill, and I super want to read these again. But yes, it was super cool to see what everyone was coming up with!

Hahaha. I love that you have learned book chill. I feel like I had that mastered, and now I’ve lost some of my chill. Must work on that!

Ahahahahaha. I’ve tried a bit anyway. It’s so hard, though, that I am bound to lose it again. XD And lol, yes. With all the amazing things going on, I can totally see where you might have lost it along the way. We can try a bit! XD

Okay, I’ve only read The 5th Wave (I really have to get back to this series), but it seriously made me think as well. If you liked the movie, you are going to LOVE the book. The book is 100x better!

Ooooooooh, okay, yay. I’m super excited for it now. 😀 😀 😀 I figured that about the movie, but now I’m super geeked that you confirmed it, Quina! 😀 Definitely have to get back to this soon then. 🙂

I talked about it a little here:https://aprettystory.wordpress.com/2017/05/10/5-books-to-read-on-a-dark-and-stormy-night-listicle-tag/
I just have so many books I want to read! It’s so difficult choosing haha.

Oh yes! I remember now. I think you were the person that really got the bug in my head that I needed to reread it. But I know what you mean. It’s so overwhelming to look at them all and go, but what should I read next?? Are you a mood reader or can you set a TBR?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I definitely canNOT set a TBR! I have to finish a book and then evaluate what I’m in the mood for next. How about you?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Lol yes! I’m very much the same way. I can at least pick out a few books ahead of time that I would like to read, but I’m still very moody about it. It gets interesting when you have review copies or library books due and and the mood has left. D:

What’s worse is I’m the type of person that begins so many books, but then my mood will change and I just stop reading them and begin new ones. Why do I do this???

Ahahahaha oh no! That’s the worst. Mood to the extreme. D: Do you end up going back to them eventually when the mood comes back? XD
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, eventually I do. But, that’s why I take longer to finish them lol I TRY

Ahhhhh good. But yes, I can imagine! But at least you get back to them and get to finish them eventually…even though your book mood was mean to you.

lol I’m used to it, but I get frustrated with myself at times. I wish I could be the person to knock off 7 books in a week.

No, I haven’t… It’s just one of those books hahaha Maybe I’m not that much into aliens? Or maybe this one in particular didn’t attract me.

No, no, I feel you. There are just so books that don’t call out to you. Aliens can also be quite hit and miss.

I was so curious about this post because I binge read the series last year after watching the movie, and the last book came out in pb last year!!haha But I guess you are talking about another edition… I am sad to say I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was exppecting… in fact I think this should have been a duology, were I only really enjoyed the first book!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh weird. I think this one has a special diary entry of Cassie’s, so maybe that was it? But oh no. I’m sad that you didn’t enjoy it as much, but I was looking and saw a lot of super low ratings for the third, so I could definitely see that. When I read it, I’m totally going to keep an eye out for what you said.

Yes, especially coming from the first one, which I loved, the second one slowed a lot and then the third… I really want to know your thoughts so I’ll be on the lookout! 😉
