2016 Year In Review Book Tag

This was such a fun and interesting tag, so I thank Miss Abigail for tagging me in it! It definitely made me put my thinking cap on – even though it is quite unfashionable, but I tried. XD Check out Miss Abigail’s post here, and then check out the rest of her blog because it is quite entertaining and inspiring!

Let’s begin!

1. Trump vs. Clinton: Name is your favorite character rivalry.

Okay, I’ve tried to think of one for a ridiculously long time, and I cannot think of one to say my book life. My thinking cap might need to be tightened a bit if the rest of this book tag is going to go well.

2. Turkey Failed Coup: A book you started but failed to finish? DNF.

Oh, the list goes on and on and on. I have a habit of DNFing a lot with books. The quickest? Probably Kiss Cam by Kiara London. I think I managed about 3 or 4 pages before I knew this wasn’t the book for me.

3. Pokemon Go: What book did you buy or read based on the hype? Did you enjoy it?

I have a habit of either falling into the hype or being a book hipster and avoiding it at all costs. The Lovely Reckless was definitely one that I fell into the book hype with. I definitely didn’t love it as much as everyone else seemed to, but it was an okay read.

4. Stranger Things: What’s one book you want everyone to read?

Oh, the list goes on and on and on as well. Since this is the book that I’ve recommended to just about everyone, I shall recommend it yet again: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It’s full of action, adventure, morally questionable characters, the feels, humors, waffles, and so much more. How can you go wrong? *tries to tamper the inner fangirl*

5. Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Mr. Robot: What was your favorite book cliffhanger within a series?

Um, none? I hate cliffhangers. I yell at books when they do that to me, which leads me to book conversations and book rants about it. Me = not a happy Book Princess with cliffhangers.

6. The Tragic Crisis in Aleppo: Name the last book that made you cry or teary-eyed.

Oh, huh. I have a habit of not really crying at books. I honestly can’t remember the last time I actually cried with a book. The closest I’ve been to one in a while, I think, was You Were Here by Cori McCarthy.

7. Brexit: Name a book you have an unpopular opinion towards.

Oh goodness. Sometimes I’m Captain Unpopular Opinion time…okay, most of the time I’m Captain Unpopular Opinion with some of the most hyped up books. If I just have to pick one…I shall pick Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I was just not a fan of this one and had to DNF rather early on.

8. Four new elements discovered in the periodic table: Name an author you discovered/read for the first time this year. 

9. #AllLivesMatter: Your favorite diverse read.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo definitely fits this one perfectly. Six of Crows was my favorite read of this year anyway, but it truly showed diversity – not only with its LGBT characters, different ethnicities and religions, but also Jesper struggled with ADHD. So many times, authors can struggle with handling all of these elements, but Bardugo handled them with ease and wonderful ability.

10. Zika Virus: A book that spread like wildfire.

What Light by Jay Asher. I hadn’t even heard of it until a few months ago, and every second I blinked, I saw it on someone’s blog and on the Goodreads recommendations. Perhaps because it was a Christmas read, but it was everywhere.

11. Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY won the Oscar: What was your most anticipated book release this year?

Caraval. This book cannot get here fast enough. I just want to bask in the book hype and let myself be washed in the YA goodness.

12. In Memorium: Name a memorable character death.

Spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers. Matthias from Crooked Kingdom. *eternal crying for this man’s cold, cold soul*

13. Samsung phones: One book that blew your mind this year!

The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James. I honestly expected nothing from this book. It was just a book that added to my Book Outlet cart to get to a certain amount, but when I read this, I was shocked by the depth that it had to it. It was a wonderful novel, and I was obsessed with it. It doesn’t look like everything special, but it holds a fantastic ghost novel inside.
