From the author of The Queen’s Rising comes a thrilling YA stand-alone fantasy about the unbreakable bond between sisters. Perfect for fans of Ember in the Ashes, Sky in the Deep, and Court of Fives.

After eight long years, Evadne will finally be reunited with her older sister, Halcyon, who has been proudly serving in the queen’s army. But when Halcyon appears earlier than expected, Eva knows something has gone terribly wrong. Halcyon is on the run, hunted by her commander and charged with murder.

Though Halcyon’s life is spared during her trial, the punishment is heavy. And when Eva volunteers to serve part of Halcyon’s sentence, she’s determined to find out exactly what happened. But as Eva begins her sentence, she quickly learns that there are fates much worse than death.

I love a good book about sisterhood, and this one sounds like such a complex one. It also sounds like there is a good murder mystery aspect, and I’m fascinated by the premise of being a detective in a super fantasy setting. I haven’t been too interested in high fantasy novels lately, but this one – and that super intriguing cover – has me wondering what will happen and where this will go.

✔️ THIS BOOK IS ELSA APPROVED!

Elsa definitely knows a bit about the sisterhood aspect – I think she’s a bit more Halcyon in this book than our heroine.

What do you think? Is this on your book TBR as well?

  1. Sounds like an interesting concept! I’m not a great fan of high fantasy, or any fantasy really, since I had such a bad time with ACOMAF. I just can’t find any good ones! I’ve tried A Darker Shade Of Magic and that didn’t go down well with me either. Sometimes you have to give a genre time before you love it again. No point forcing it upon yourself, eh? Great post. Hope you get a chance to read this one (and enjoy it!) x

  2. I’m also excited for this one. I love a book with a focus on sibling relationships and this one looks so good. I will admit I requested an ARC basically bc of the cover but I think I will be glad that I did

  3. Oh I haven’t heard of this one but the concept seems solid. The synopsis has me interested. I’ll be adding this one to the TBR. I love the murder mystery aspect to it!
