Top Five Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm where bookworms get to chat about their top five books based on different topics.
“F” = Frindle by Andrew Clements

Frindle may not be may absolute favourite book that begins with “F,” but I had to make it my selection anyway. I love Clements’ storytelling here. A young boy gets a strict English teacher and, when she insists that the students speak properly and use good grammar, decides to “challenge” her by making up a new word. The story is fun but also has many lessons to share about the learning process and schooling.
“G” = Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

If you know me you KNEW Grave Mercy was making this list. You knew. I’m always here for my girl Ismae and her kickass self, going from the peasant girl nobody cared about to the assassin capable of dealing her own justice—and deciding her own fate.

“H” = The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Such a perfect “H”! Kind of wish I brought my copy to Australia so I could do a re-read. Starr’s powerful voice is only one factor that makes The Hate U Give a standout.

“I” = I Want to Go Home

This book never fails to leave me in laughter. It’s possibly one of my top three Gordon Korman favourites. Featuring a boy stuck at a summer camp who will do ANYTHING to escape and a troupe of counselors at their wits ends, I Want to Go Home kind of just vibes with anyone who has ever felt like a day has been too long and it’s time to get going.

“J” = Just One Wish by Janette Rallison

I didn’t have too many “J”s that really got my heart pumping. I really liked Just One Wish, although it wasn’t way up in my favourites. There are good laugh moments, and a heartwarming tale of sibling-hood at its core, which made it my top pick in the end.

The Hate U Give is so so good! I think you’ll enjoy it when you do get a copy. I saw the movie after reading the book, and I agree with your choice, reading the book first is better here!

I read Frindle for class in elementary school and I remember really loving it! I also absolutely adore Gordon Korman, and so I’m really surprised I’ve never heard of I Want to Go Home before!
