June Wrap-Up & July TBR

Another month, another 30ish days of me not completing what I would like accomplished. LIFE. This is it, y’all.

I was aiming to read a lot of pride books this month, and I accomplished about half? Three were required reading for ARCs and what I had been finishing up prior, and others ended up being what was available from my library. I managed to tackle a lot of my TBR that I was aiming for, though. It definitely was a mixed bag of highs and lows, though, so well, you know.

Best book of the month: Red, White, and Royal Blue. Worst book of the month: Hot Dog Girl.

*Please forgive if there are mistakes with the emoji reps! Sha did them last minute and has not read the books (except Romanov, and she strongly contests the DNF). If you spot an error, call it out in the comments.

bookhighs

There were definitely a few highs this month. While there weren’t any official favorites, Girls Made of Paper and Fire; Red, White, and Royal Blue; and Her Royal Highness were quite quite close to being it. I’m honestly not sure if I can pick a favorite out of them, because they just made me so happy to read them. I was afraid Red wasn’t going to live up to the hype, but despite having a few bumps, it was quite quite good. I WILL GO DOWN WITH THAT SHIPβ€”and the other two books’ ships as well. Seriously, Her Royal and Red brought so much fluff, and THIS was how I needed to start my summer off.

booklows

The biggest low this month was Hot Dog Girl. What had a great sounding premise ended up being a mess because of the main character. I just couldn’t get behind her and the toxic behavior. These Witches Don’t Burn ended up not being a jam as much as I wanted it to be either. It was just a mess at times, and I wasn’t a super fan of the writing. The rest of the month just had some okay reads, which wasn’t too bad.

nonbookishnews

πŸ‘Έ We had a hiatus at the beginning of the month, which was most needed and definitely not used usefully for this girl, lol. Sha and I are still adjusting to the massive changes in our life, and we are still trying to catch up! We are definitely in a transitional phase, so bear with us as we are that little “page loading” thing that we hate when we run it into when our Internet is running slow.

πŸ‘Έ I’m also struggling a bit to equal out things in my life. I’m not sure if it’s burnout or I had some really good books or might have found a new show to love or work was too much, but I’ve just had a struggle to get myself seated and get the computer up. Therefore, blog hopping and moderations and comments have definitely fell behind. THIS GIRL IS TRYING. Just slowly, because I a mess. πŸ˜‰ I’m hoping I’m working out of the funk, and that is my goal.

πŸ‘Έ I finished Brooklyn Nine Nine and y’alllllllllllllllllllllllllll. It’s too much. While season six wasn’t the best, I was still in deep with this show. Now I’m all caught up and idk when it’s exactly coming back and Y’ALL. I also got caught up on Buzzfeed Unsolved. Again, it wasn’t the greatest season, but the boys were great as usual. I was prepared for intense searching for my next binge, and the TV gods delivered in the form of an obscure German Netflix show that I had forgotten my love of.

Me, when people asking me how old I’m turning this month. Also, Dark gif because this is my life now.

πŸ‘Έ  Have y’all heard of Dark? I’m OBSESSED. It’s this more adult version of Stranger Things set in a small town in Germany with time travel, mystery, soap opera level drama, and more, and it’s just SO MUCH LOVE. It’s creepy af, has an excellent cast, and despite twenty million things going on at once, it somehow makes so much sense and dlsneslgnraegkrea I JUST CANNOT WAIT TO KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT. New episodes dropped this month, and I was like, kk, I’ll watch the season 1 finale and go into season 2…only to realize I remembered nothing of season 1. I just completed the season 1 binge, and I’m crying because this show is magnificent and I’m not ready. This girl <<right here>> is a total fangirl, and ugh. Someone love this with me too.

I’m going to need this hug after I’m done.

πŸ‘Έ  Also, Bastille dropped new music this month, and omg, how I adore Bastille. *screams* Compared to the other albums, I forgot that like albums can just have 11 songs, so I keep expecting more. There are some songs that I know will have to grow on me, but there are some that I’m just screaming so much over. Gosh, Bastille is not only an aesthetic but just all the great music. “Doom Days” is literally on repeat.

tbr

Sha and I aren’t participating in a readathon this month, so, um, I’m back to being lost in the sea of all the many books that there are out there. Again, my goal is trying to read all of the books that are physically on my shelf, so I’m going to aim for that. However, I’m feeling a bit lost and aimless, so I’ll probably just screw making a TBR and just stare at my Goodreads and physical TBR until something pops out at me.

Physical Books

  • The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan (…and perhaps the rest of the series if I can read it fast enough???)
  • Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
  • The Kingdom by Jess Rosenberg
  • Always Never Yours by Austin Siegemund-Broka & Emily Wibberley
  • AND IDK. I literally don’t know what to pick. Maybe it’s time to invest in a TBR jar, lol.

Audiobooks

  • I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver
  • Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno

ebooks

  • Changeling by William Ritter

What do you think? What books did you read last month? Did we share any of the same? What do you plan for June? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

      1. Such a great Rec!! So glad it was picked up to continue on! My FAVORITE episodes are the Halloween ones, when they try to outsmart each other!! So great

      2. I was so so worried when B99 was cancelled. I can’t put into words how relieved I got to hear it was renewed! YES the Halloween episodes are the best. I don’t know how, but I’m always left surprised with how the episodes ends.

  3. Aww, I’m so sad that you didn’t enjoy These Witches Don’t Burn very much because I surprisingly enjoyed it. I’m like the only person who hasn’t read RW&RB yet and I need to change that immediately!! Hope you guys can adjust to your changes and have an amazing July πŸ’—

  4. I love B99! I haven’t finished season 6 yet because some people have been saying that it ruined the show and I was just like, no. I must have B99 being spectacular as the only memory in my mind. Also, what is this Dark you speak of?? I love Stranger Things (woot woot s3 is out today) and I definitely have to check out this show. Hope you guys have a fantastic July!!

    1. Yes, B99 is amazing and must be kept at ultimate level. I wouldn’t say that this season ruined it completely for me, but it definitely definitely wasn’t on par for me as the other ones. It was just missing a lot of what worked so well in the past. But yes. 😦 And OMG IT’S SO GOOD. I can’t help but describe it as a more adult Stranger Things with time travel, creepy towns, and so many twists and turns. It’s on Netflix, and I’m straight up addicted. And how did you feel about season 3 of Stranger??? And you too!! ❀

  5. Ouch! I’ve heard very mixed reviews about Romanov, but I’m glad you’re so honest about that DNF rating, Mandy! (And didn’t Sha give it 5 stars? I guess I’ll have to read it and judge for myself!)

And don’t worry too much about not accomplishing as much as you wanted. Both of you are wonderful bloggers, and I wish you the best! I hope you figure out everything soon, and if not, we’re still here to support you. πŸ’•

Good luck with your TBR, and the rest of this month! 😊

    1. Yes! I really tried with it, but I think it was just too slow paced for me to dive fully in. And she didddddddddd. We definitely had wildly different opinions on it. (I would probably trust Sha’s opinion since she isn’t a book mess like me, lol. XD)

Thank you, Xandra. ❀ ❀ These have been an odd few months, but hopefully the groove will be figured out. Thank you, and you too! πŸ™‚
