Top Five Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm where bookworms get to chat about their top five books based on different topics.
It’s Mandy here! I’m taking over the Top 5 Tuesday for this week for Sha. We’re talking Top 5 Fantasies today. I usually go back and forth on how I like my fantasies. Sometimes high fantasies get really complex and they go WAY over Mandy’s head. Light fantasies where there is some sense of the regular world is usually how I dive into mine. I fangirl over these book routinely so I’ll limit the fangirling to a minimum today and just let us gaze upon their wonderful covers. Here are a few that I love – high and low!

Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

These Viscous Masks by Kelly Zekas & Tarun Shanker

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

I totally agree with you about high fantasy’s! I really want to read them sometimes, but they also tend to be suuuuuper long and a lil’ bit confusing 😅 Two of my favorite fantasies are The Name of the Wind and The Lies of Locke Lamora

Yessssssssssss. Some are just so interesting, but your brain fully has to be on. You have to read every little facet and everything for it. But I’ve head Name of the Wind is just so brilliant. I haven’t heard of the other, so I will have to check it out! 🙂

The only book I read from your list is «The Lightning Thief», but the Darker Shade of Magic and Six of Crows are both on my TBR, hopefully, I’ll be able to read them this year *fingers crossed*

Yessssssssss. That series was just so immersive and amazingly done. And it IS. Definitely transcends the time. Oooh, I haven’t read any of those, but I always meant to tackle Eragon.

Yessssssss I totally agreeeeeeeee, Jamie. They were both so brilliant. And oooooh yes! I was a bit skeptical of These Vicious Masks at first, but it actually was funny, wholly intriguing, super easy to read, and had a love triangle that worked??? It really worked. AND YESSSSSSSssss. I will forever screech about it, lol. Thank you, Jamie!!

I have NOT read any other books by Bardugo, though my daughter thought I should have read the Grisha series before SoC

This is such a great list. Of all of these I’ve only never read These Vicious Masks? I might go check it out now though. And totally agree with Six of Crows, it’s my favourite!!

Thank you! And yesssss. SOC is just so brilliant. And These Vicious really is super unknown, but it has a super cool setting, easy to read writing, a X-Men Victorian London plot, and a love triangle that actually really worked???

Choosing my top 5 fantasy would be nearly impossible for me. But I mean Narnia and SoC are definitely up there. Add in An Ember in the Ashes but from there I really don’t know where to go, there are so many good choices!

Ikkkkkkkkkkkkk. I’m like, I must limit myself to only those on my immediate favorite shelf and then picking a random one. But YES. There are so many good ones out there.
