I felt like I did better in May than I did in April, so I’m feeling like I’m going into this wrap-up strong…which is just like what I think in every Mandy Reads Fairytales posts which usually ends up with child eating queens, so UM. This will probably be another failure month?
I read 10 books this month, and they are:
Books Read
✔️ Shouting at the Rain by Lynda Mullaly Hunt – 3 👑
✔️ Small Spaces by Katherine Arden – 3 👑
✔️ The Haunted by Danielle Vega – 1 👑
✔️ Blackbird, Vol. 1 by Sam Humphries, Jen Bartel – 4 👑
✔️ The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman – 4 👑
✔️ With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo – 5 👑
✔️ Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Andersen – 3 👑
✔️ Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman – 4 👑
✔️ Big Mushy Happy Lump by Sarah Andersen- 3 👑
✔️ Technically, You Started It by Lana Wood Johnson – 4 👑
Summary
Well, this month might be one of my best ones yet? Is that kind of sad? 2019 has not been the kindest to me, but this month brought a good amount of 4 crowns and even a favorite book! I feel like I might have finally done something right, lol.
The Highs
With the Fire on High is the best read this month easily – and YES, it is a favorite. Acevedo is seriously one of the best writers that I ever read, and she is easily making it onto my auto buy list…even though I don’t have one. The Devouring Gray was another good read – and it gave me all the mood and atmosphere this girl was looking for. Aurora Rising brought so much enjoyment as well. I was in the zone with the gang and even scary space!
The Lows
Lol, hello, The Haunted. I wanted ghostie goodness, but instead, I was given a messy and annoying book that not only brought alllllllllllll the cliches but also a super weird and messed up ending. The rest of the reads were 3 crowns, which really weren’t too bad, so I’m not sure if they count as the lows. Well, this is revolutionary for me.
Other BPR Activities
We are a bit more chill this month. We avoided all the readathons, and Sha is adjusting rn to her life in Australia. It’s been a bunch of an adjustment period, so this is why you have seen less of Sha’s purple avatar popping up. I’ve also been a little quieter too on the blog with lots of things coming on, but June shall hopefully be us princesses back in the jam!
We also created a book tag for Brave – where Sha and I had a moment of princess wars history over our love/dislike of the movie.
This girl right here is also almost done with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and like, I CANNOT. This show was so so so good, and like, what is my life going to be WITHOUT B99. I’mma have to find a new show, and I will be living a life of less funnies. Lemme just cry for a moment, y’all.
️🌈June TBR️🌈
June is Pride Month, and this girl right here is going to try to read as many LGBTQIA+ books as I can – this includes stories written by and about LGBTQIA+ voices. I know there are quite a few readathons on there, but I want to keep it more chill and get to the main books that I am SO pumped for without trying to stick them in certain prompts.
Physical Books
- Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan
- Going Off Script by Jen Wilde
- Keep This to Yourself by Tom Ryan
- Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins
- I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver
- Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
- Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
- Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
- These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling
- The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan (…and perhaps the rest of the series if I can read it fast enough???)
- …and more if I’m able and that I can find
I ordered my Audiobooks from the library (and requested the ebook) before I planned my Pride month TBR so here are a few that I will be trying, but I do plan on getting a few more specifically for pride month if I can. Furyborn does have a bi MC.
Audiobooks
- Furyborn by Claire Legrand
- The Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe
- Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer
ebooks
- Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
I will also be getting my order of The Kingdom by Jess Rosenberg, which I do want to read INTENSELY and SO MUCH. So I will probably be slipping that into this month too – along with some graphic novels as well.
I just started Girls of Paper and Fire and it’s really good so far! Hope you can get to it!

You had a rough reading month. Lots of meh and a 1-star!! My heart! I read Field Guide, but I bet the right narrator could make it even more fun. I hope you enjoy it (I loved it).

I’ve feel like I’ve had a few bumpy months so far in 2019. D: And oooooh perfect! I’m hoping it will be. I think it was your review that convinced me to pick it up, so I’m excited! 🙂

I spotted so many awesome books in this post! First off, I read With the Fire on High this month and will now read basically anything Elizabeth Acevado writes! I’m also really happy to see that you enjoyed Technically You Started It, because I’m really excited for that book but have seen zero hype!
As for your TBR, I spot some fantastic reads on there! I LOVED Red, White, & Royal Blue SO MUCH! And I want to read The Kingdom, and I Wish You All the Best as well!

Yesssss! Omigosh, she totally is becoming an auto buy, for sure. And YES. It’s a cute little book, and I didn’t even come across it except for a tag about ARCs and saw some potential rep that I was intrigued with. Otherwise, there is ZERO hype.
Omigosh, I can’t wait to read it now!! I have seen so much hype for it. And Yesssssssss, they sound so good.
