Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Here There are Monsters by Amelinda Bérubé
The Blair Witch Project meets Imaginary Girls in this story of codependent sisterhood, the struggle to claim one’s own space, and the power of secrets
Sixteen-year-old Skye is done playing the knight in shining armor for her insufferable younger sister, Deirdre. Moving across the country seems like the perfect chance to start over.
In their isolated new neighborhood, Skye manages to fit in, but Deirdre withdraws from everyone, becoming fixated on the swampy woods behind their house and building monstrous sculptures out of sticks and bones.
Then Deirdre disappears.
And when something awful comes scratching at Skye’s window in the middle of the night, claiming she’s the only one who can save Deirdre, Skye knows she will stop at nothing to bring her sister home.
I didn’t have the best of luck with her first book, but I’m more than willing to give this one a try. I love a good ghostie/thriller book, and this seems like it will bring the creep and the mystery. I’ve been in a pretty low spot in getting my thriller/horror/ghosties books in, and this sounds like it will totally fit my need!
✔️ THIS BOOK IS SNOW WHITE APPROVED! Merida did have some encounters with creepy magic in the forest, and I totally feel like there is bound to be some creepy things going on in this forest.
What do you think? Is this on your book TBR as well?
