Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.
The Tesla Legacy by KK Perez
THE TESLA LEGACY follows a precocious young scientist named Lucy Phelps whose fateful encounter in the Tesla Suite of the New Yorker Hotel unlocks her dormant electrical powers. As Lucy struggles to understand her new abilities through scientific experimentation, she is thrust into a centuries old battle between rival alchemical societies.
One side wants her help and the other wants her dead, but both believe she is the next step in human evolution. Unfortunately, carriers of the genetic mutation—including Nikola Tesla—have a greatly reduced life expectancy. Even if Lucy can outrun her enemies, she can’t outrun herself.
One of my best friends has been fascinated by Nikola Tesla for a few years now, and in hearing stories and information about him over this time, I’ve found myself perking up at his name. Therefore, I was intrigued to see him popping up in a YA novel with a super cool sounding fantasy theme and from KK Perez who wrote Sweet Black Waves which I very much enjoyed last year??? It was one of the best books I read last year, and I loved the crazy plot twist. Y es, please! I’m sooooooooooo down for this, but I’m probably just going to picture this entire book in a 1920s Gilded Age setting for absolutely no reason.
What do you think? Is this on your book TBR as well? What books are you waiting for this week? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
I am going to be honest, my interest in the books stems solely from the fact that it name drops Tesla, and, well, I love him.

YES. My friend has forced her Tesla love on me too, so now I’m ALL excited for anything that pops up about him. It seems like Perez is bringing a super unique idea to him too.

I’ve never heard of this book until reading your post, it’s not one that I would personally read as I find myself drifting away from reading science fiction.

I’m with you about drifting a bit away from it. I find some light sci-fi can be okay but definitely depends on how it’s done.
