Read & Chill-A-Thon TBR

Sha and Mandy will actually be participating in Bookishly Rebecca‘s and Malanie Loves Fiction’s Read-A-Thon this month. Yes, finally, these girls get their book game on and join a blogging event! We are super excited to be tackling this readathon and major thanks to Rebecca and Malanie for coming up with the prompts and for hosting. It’s a super easy and chill readathon, too—which are two things these book princesses love.

Today we are bringing you our readathon TBRs, and throughout the month, you’ll be seeing our book reviews posted for these in special readathon double posts.

There are four prompts:

  • Read a book featuring your favorite trope.
  • Read a book someone has recommended.
  • Read a new-to-you author.
  • Read the group book, The Hating Game, or buddy read a book with someone.

Sha’s List

  1. I don’t want to say it’s my favourite trope (I have this thing where I hate picking number ones because I seem to believe it’s then set in stone and people will hold the choice over me forever) but I really enjoy the forbidden love trope. It can be forbidden because someone said “don’t do it,” or because a character doesn’t think it’s right (for social reasons, for prestige, for family). I just love the moment when the protag is like NO. It makes me happy so I’mma DO IT. With that in mind, I’ll be reading The Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh.
  2. I’ll go with the last recommendation I received. Shannon @ Shelfish for Books recommended All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis after she read one of my posts on a book with similar themes. I’ve been waiting for the right moment to dig into ARR and now, here it is!
  3. I’ve actually been reading a lot of new authors recently, so this isn’t too hard. I’ll go with One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus which technically is also a recommendation (from Mandy herself). It’s been sitting idle on my Kindle for too long.
  4. I’ve heard some good things about The Hating Game (and some bad) but in the end, it’s not at my library so Mandy and I scoured our bookshelves for books in common and decided on a buddy read. We’ll be buddy reading My Unfair Godmother by Janette Rallison.

Mandy’s List

  1. I either love me some tropes or hate me some tropes. I’m not sure if this is a for sure trope, but I consider it one. One thing you can always get me on is fairytale retellings. Sea Witch by Sarah Henning will be my pick.
  2. Wildcard by Marie Lu. Rendz from Reading With Rendz’s love of Marie Lu was one of the first reasons that I picked up this book in the first place, and she definitely recommended me picking up this book ASAP, so I’m counting.
  3. The Agony House by Cherie Priest. I’m still in the spooky books mood (I mean, when am I ever actually out of it??), and this one was one that instantly caught my eye at the library. It’s a mix of art and novelization, so I’m excited to try it out.
  4. As Sha said herself, we’ll be buddy reading one of our favorite books ever. I’m ready for all the funnies and adorable romance that this book brings to me and Sha.

What do you think? Will you be joining in? Have you read any of these? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. One of Us is Lying sits on my favorites shelf. I’m a fan, and you can never go wrong with Marie Lu. I am not what one would call an SFF fan, but I loved all her books.
