Waiting on Wednesday is a meme created by Breaking the Spine where each week we discuss upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand
Beware of the woods and the dark, dank deep.
He’ll follow you home, and he won’t let you sleep.
Who are the Sawkill Girls?
Marion: the new girl. Awkward and plain, steady and dependable. Weighed down by tragedy and hungry for love she’s sure she’ll never find.
Zoey: the pariah. Luckless and lonely, hurting but hiding it. Aching with grief and dreaming of vanished girls. Maybe she’s broken—or maybe everyone else is.
Val: the queen bee. Gorgeous and privileged, ruthless and regal. Words like silk and eyes like knives, a heart made of secrets and a mouth full of lies.
Their stories come together on the island of Sawkill Rock, where gleaming horses graze in rolling pastures and cold waves crash against black cliffs. Where kids whisper the legend of an insidious monster at parties and around campfires.
Where girls have been disappearing for decades, stolen away by a ravenous evil no one has dared to fight… until now.
In Legrand’s own words, “This is a book about girls–girls loving girls, girls kissing girls, girls being friends with girls, girls helping girls. Girls who hunger, girls who rage. Girls who fight, girls who make mistakes, girls who dream and pine. It’s also about magic and monsters, family secrets and soul-friends, moths and wild horses and the churning wild sea, and trampling the patriarchy.”
I CANNOT. I CANNOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Omg, not only does the scenery and world seem lush and beautiful, but I need everything with the female empowerment. I mean, LITERALLY ALL OF THE FEMALE EMPOWERMENTTTTTTT AND GIRL POWER AND GIRLS SUPPORTING GIRLS AND THIS IS JUST ALL I NEED TO MAKE MYSELF HAPPY. I’m just going to sit in a corner with my bowl of feels and just wait for them to spill over.
And also, I adored her previous book, Furyborn, so I know it’s going to be brilliance.
What do you think? Is this on your book TBR as well? What books are you waiting for this week? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

I didn’t know about this one but a book about girls, with girls, FOR girls, and ALL ABOUT girl power is right up my alley!! It sounds like it’s right up your alley too, Mandy, which it obvously is because you’re awesome and you love awesome books so no surprises there xD
I haven’t read Furyborn either but it sounds like they’re very different types of stories. Which should be interesting! I can’t wait to read your thoughts on it 🙂 ❤

Ugh, confession time: I own an ARC of Furyborn and I still haven’t read it. It was in a FairyLoot box and I simply didn’t get to it yet because SO MANY BOOKS. On top of that I.. believe.. I got an ARC of Sawkill Girls at YALC? My mind’s all over the place right now so I could remember incorrectly. Don’t think so though. I should read it, shouldn’t I? I should. I should. I SHOULD. Maybe.. this weekend..
