Waiting on Wednesday: Blanca & Roja

waiting on wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme created by Breaking the Spine where each week we discuss upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore

blanca & roja

The biggest lie of all is the story you think you already know.

The del Cisne girls have never just been sisters; they’re also rivals, Blanca as obedient and graceful as Roja is vicious and manipulative. They know that, because of a generations-old spell, their family is bound to a bevy of swans deep in the woods. They know that, one day, the swans will pull them into a dangerous game that will leave one of them a girl, and trap the other in the body of a swan.

But when two local boys become drawn into the game, the swans’ spell intertwines with the strange and unpredictable magic lacing the woods, and all four of their fates depend on facing truths that could either save or destroy them. Blanca & Roja is the captivating story of sisters, friendship, love, hatred, and the price we pay to protect our hearts.

I’ve recently discovered I’m really not so much into magical realism, but this book makes me believe I could be a magic realism believer. This sounds like a dark, twisted fairytale that wants to make dive deep into Grimm’s stories again. I am all here for some interesting and intriguing sister dynamics, and I’m feeling major vibes from potential spooky vibe. I’ve also heard such amazing things about McLemore’s writing…which reminds me I still have Wild Beauty on my shelf to be read. OOPS. I’m feeling some great October feels for this one, and it could give us some spooky September moments!

What do you think? Is this on your book TBR as well? What books are you waiting for this week? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
