August Wrap-Up / September TBR

Oh, August. I wasn’t a particular fan of you. I slumped hard this month with blogging and then I put myself into a funk where I didn’t even want to touch books. So, this girl that usually binge reads loads actually had a tame book reading month. A lot of real life stuff caught up to me, and it was curl in a ball for this princess. A broken laptop was the cherry on top for it all! So shall we see what I actually managed to do??? 13 books, actually which is actually a lot better than what I thought it was, but still not my usual book princessness.

The Highs

Eh, there wasn’t too many highs this month. There were no favorites to be added. The Bigfoot Files was the highest of the books with 5 crowns, but there were a few 4 crowns and a lot of three crowns. Of Fire and Stars, Between Shades of Gray, and the Phantom Tower fell into the four crown territory.

The Lows

There were a lottttttttttttttt of lows. And what wasn’t lows? Was totally eh’s. So many eh’s. Uncharted and Afterimage were probably the worst of the month. The former was a one crown with the latter being a two crown. The rest fill into 2 or 3 crowns. The Cheerleaders might have been the most disappointing since that totallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy fell below my expectations which I had such high high hopes for.

Book Haul

It was quite the tame book month. Apparently I had a lot in July, so my wallet needed a break especially when I see alllllllllllllll the books I want for September. Trust me, there are gonna be a lot since I think I have 4 preordered for just the same DAY.

  • The Truth Lies Here by Lindsey Klingele
  • City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab (because, duh)
  • Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief: Illustrated Edition (omg it’s gorgeoussssssss)
  • Disney Princess Comic Strip Collection (Issues #1 – 17 because I never play games when it comes to getting all of my princesses)

What else has Mandy been up to?

Eh, it’s been a mess, so lol, shall we hard pass this section. But a basic summary: stress in my life caused me blogging slump which put me into reading slump and then I discovered Spotify so that put me into an audiobook slump and then my laptop broke and then like, Idk????? I discovered there are such things as princess comic strips, so at least there’s that??????

I finally got a new laptop, so hopefully all is good now…until the next meltdown. It’s kind of a bit slow, but let’s see how it goes.

September TBR

I will be participating in a readathon that BPR created this month! I wanted a month of alllllll the spooky books so I could fully prepare myself for Halloween. So, Sha and I teamed up to put our Disney book blogging minds together and created the Nightmare Before Book Princess Reviews readathon where we read spooky-ish books based on Nightmare Before Christmas prompts. Find out more about it here and check out my TBR here!

What do you think? Did we share any of the same books this month? What was on your month of books? What is on your September TBR? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. Th-thirteen books? HOW IS THAT LOW?? Mandy, girl, you are a beast reader 😱😱😱
I read like three? Two, maybe? When I’m in a slump that’s how many, if not less, I can fit into my life 😂
Anyway, I’m sooo excited for the spooky readathon! I don’t know if I’ll be participating but I have tons of Halloween reads I’ll want to catch up on. Mostly, I just want to read your posts on it!
I’m sorry to hear about your laptop but I’m glad everything’s been sorted out ❤️

    1. Ahahahaha I don’t know, Sophie. XD I like to hold competitions with myself?? XD
Sorry you’re slumping, though, Sophie! I hope you get out of it soon!!
Oooooh yes, I hope you get a chance to get to your fabulous Halloween reads! They are always the best.
And thank you! You don’t realize just how easy everything is with a laptop instead of trying to create a blog post in your phone XD

      1. I am doing much better, thanks to the readathon! It’s forcing me to read more and I’ve actually been enjoying the challenge a lot so super happy I joined 😀
I will definitely try and do something similar to last year. I can’t wait for your Halloween posts as well!! ❤
Oh I've had a bit of experience once or twice… All I can say is: POOR YOU D: So glad you have your laptop back, you don't deserve that sort of treatment xD

  2. I felt the same as you when it came to reading and blogging although I read more than I did in other months. I think it must be because I read more at the beginning of August than towards the end.
The Horse and His Boy and Prince Caspian were two audiobooks I listened to as well and I really enjoyed them. I thought I’d listen to all of the Chronicles of Narnia but I didn’t feel like listening to The Silver Chair and the Last Battle, so I hope I get to them in September.

      1. I don’t know about yours but mine were dramatisations, which definitely brought an added dimension to the stories. For me, my favourite will always be The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but I also really liked Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

  3. 13 is a reading slump?!
I only managed four books this month – and that was a good month for me! 😂
Considering you had a reading and blogging slump, your August haul was impressive! I need to find me some motivation like that.

I read City of Ghosts in August and it was pretty good, although it was too short. I’ve got This Mortal Coil and Children of Blood and Bone on my September TBR so far.

    1. I like to hold intense competitions with myself and reading and having no life certainly helps with it. XD But yes,

Oooh I’m glad to hear you say that about City of Ghosts. I’m super excited for it. And I’m intrigued to see what you think of Children of Blood and Bone since I’ve seen soooo many great reviews about it.

  4. I missed everything when I was on hiatus but I’ll for sure participate in your read-a-thon in October since I already have a read-a-thon going on in September. I’ve been trying to get more involved with read-a-thons so this is perfect. 🙂

Sucks to hear about your stressed out month but I kind of felt the same so at least we can relate 😛 I’ll have to check out your TBR 🙂

  6. That’s no fun with the slump :/ hopefully the spooky readathon will help with that. I think The Diviners is a great choice! If you’re able to, the audio book is the best option for maximum scares lol. Hopefully you can get a new laptop as well 🙂 Let’s have September be better!

    1. It isn’t! But yes! I’m hoping alllll the spooky books will chase away the slump scaries? And okay, perfect! I went with that and so far, I’m finding it to definitely be the case. Have you read the rest of the series? And thank you! Hopefully your September will be great! ❤

      1. Yep I’m caught up with the Diviners series 🙂 it’s very well done but I have some beef with a few things that make me not love it like everyone else. But I hope you love it and I want to see what you think of it 🙂

  7. Aww, I’m so sorry about the slump! I totally understand about “real life” catching up to you and de-motivating you, but hey, I think you got through a lot of books nevertheless! (I literally read one. 😂) And at least you have the readathon to help you catch up! I’m glad you were able to get a new laptop, and hopefully you recover soon. Wishing you well! ❤

  8. Great wrap-up, Mandy! Even though you did have quite a few eh books, I’m glad you got to so many reads!! And I am living for each update to your spooky read-a-thon! I am planning a few reads for it to come this October, if not late September!
