Would You Rather Book Tag

Sha and Mandy are back in action for a book tag! That’s right – no battling over books today, but instead we are taking on would you rather questions. Thank you so much to Paige @ Bookish Paige for tagging us for this fun tag! Make sure you check our Paige’s tag for fun tags like this along with fantastic reviews! Plus, I mean, that blog name is so perfect and witty, and her blog is full of fun things! Now, let’s see what Sha and Mandy would rather do with their books besides fight each other.

Rather read only a series or stand-alone books?

SHA: I’ve lived on stand-alones for the past year, taking harsh U-turns any time a book announced “first in a series.” I’m just not ready for the commitment, I guess. Not to say I haven’t read some *really* good series.
MANDY: Stand-alones. I always have an issue with series that some of them die out halfway through and I then I’m falling out of love with the first book since the others don’t work as well. Wow, that is is pessimistic but usually this princess’s luck. Except for TLC. That somehow got better and better with each addition.

Rather read a book whose main character is male or female?

SHA: I’m always reading female MCs, not even out of preference but just because that’s what saturates the market. I would love to go on a male MC binge to get a taste of what’s offered though!
MANDY: Either or! I’m really not picky. Like Sha, I usually read female MCs because I love reading my fierce females and can usually relate more, but I’ve read some incredible male MCs books that got me too. It just depends on the content of the story!

Rather shop only at Barnes & Noble (or another actual bookstore) or Amazon?

SHA: From these two (named) options … I’ve never shopped at either! But yeah, I prefer an actual bookstore. My go-to is Indigo (biggest bookstore in Canada) because I can browse there and get great deals on shipping.
MANDY: Oh dear. Um, I shop either? I have a membership at Barnes and Noble, so I would go with that since I get free shipping and discount in store. But honestly, I just go with whatever has the best price. I don’t have any indie bookstores around me so it’s super hard to support my local stores.

Rather all books become movies or tv shows?

SHA: Uuuuhhh that’s hard because a TV show can really get in-depth on the story but then also I would have to commit to SO MANY SHOWS. I’ll still say TV show though, because let’s be real, I’m a certified binge-watcher.
MANDY: TV shows, I think, have a better chance to tell the story right. Like, if Percy Jackson had been done as a TV series, I think it would have been brilliantly done instead of trying to shove it all in as a movie. However, TV shows do mean that they have to fit a lot more in so they could take a lot of liberties with things.

Rather read 5 pages per day or read 5 books per week?

SHA: How can someone function on five pages a day? I would forget the entire plot. I already read all my books in one sitting, so five books a week doesn’t sound too bad at all.
MANDY: 5 books per week, of course. I mean…I think I might have done this before…or might even be doing this now if it’s a really good week, so OOPS.

Rather be a professional book reviewer or an author?

MANDY: Book reviewer! I used to be at a place in my life that I would have said author in a heartbeat, but I think I might have let go my author dreams. Reading books gives me a lot more joy than trying to write them, so I think I would be going with book reviewer.
SHA: Once upon a time I would have been like AUTHOR, just like Mandy, but once I finished writing my first book I was like … yeah, I’m cool, I can let *others* do that. It’s way too long a process for me! Also, I prefer re-reading my own work than the whole process of writing it out anyway, haha.

Rather only read the same 20 books over and over or get to read a new book every 6 months?

MANDY: Um, um, um, huh. I guess I’m a little perplexed by this one. Do I have books to read during the six months before I get a new one? Or am I just stuck with nothing before I get that new book? WHY IS THIS SO COMPLEX. IDK. SO CONFUSING. Probably the latter if I have other books to read.
SHA: I share Mandy’s perplexity! However, I would go with the first option (because I’m so suspicious that the second option is legit just one book every six months). I already love doing re-reads sooooo, I think I would be okay?

Rather be a librarian or own a bookstore?

SHA: Own a bookstore because I could make money and also decorate the place however I wanted and make it this comfy cozy little place with my own vibe.
MANDY: Honestly, either or? I wouldn’t mind getting to return the books to a library with the books I wasn’t a fan of. But now I’m thinking about it I would probably make zero money if I ran a bookstore since I would just take the books I bought for inventory home. OOPS.

Rather only read your favourite genre or your favourite author?

SHA: Favourite genre. I don’t have just one favourite author, and the authors I do prefer don’t have many books.
MANDY: Most of my favorite authors don’t have too many books out, so I wouldn’t like to be forced to only read like the 7 books Simone St. James has out there in the world forever. I think genre would give me a lot of opportunity for more greatness.

Rather only read physical books or eBooks?

SHA: Physical for liiiifeeeee. I think I went on about my adoration for physical copies long enough in my poll on physical copies VS audiobooks and Ebooks.
MANDY: Physical! Ebooks start to hurt my eyes after a while, so even while they are nice and portable, I like my eyes.

What do you think? What are some of your answers to this? Are you more Mandy or Sha with some of your answers? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I love this tag! Some of these questions were unexpectedly difficult to decide on, such as TV shows vs. movies, 5 pages vs. 5 books, and the one where you have to choose reading one new book every single months. I chose the opposite from you guys on all of these, but hey, again, they weren’t easy choices. 😉 But for sure I completely agree that standalones are the safest way to go, and physical books ftw! Awesome answers ladies! 😁
