What does Mandy have on preorder?

mandy's preorders

I feel like I should have a lot more on pre-order but the truth is, it’s getting really hard to tell what I’m going to want to read or not. I’ve been so much picky lately with my books since I got burned quite a bit with other pre-orders, but lately, I’ve been finding some deals and some good coupons for pre-orders, so of course, you know this girl was all over them. AND WHAT IS WITH LITERALLY ALMOST ALL OF THESE BOOKS COMING OUT IN SEPTEMBER????? I’m going to have like ten million books on my doorstep this month apparently. Shall we check below to see what struck this princess’s fancy?

city of ghostsGoodreads / Barnes and Noble / Amazon

Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspectres, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.

When The Inspectres head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.

I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT I CANNOT WAIT. Victoria Schwab + ghosts + ghost hunting show + Scotland = Mandy will be in book heaven and I CLEARLY CANNOT WAIT.

Emika Chen barely made it out of the Warcross Championships alive. Now that she knows the truth behind Hideo’s new NeuroLink algorithm, she can no longer trust the one person she’s always looked up to, who she once thought was on her side.

Determined to put a stop to Hideo’s grim plans, Emika and the Phoenix Riders band together, only to find a new threat lurking on the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Someone’s put a bounty on Emika’s head, and her sole chance for survival lies with Zero and the Blackcoats, his ruthless crew. But Emika soon learns that Zero isn’t all that he seems–and his protection comes at a price.

Caught in a web of betrayal, with the future of free will at risk, just how far will Emika go to take down the man she loves?

Okay, I’m not super crazy about this cover, but I seriously can’t wait for the sequel to Warcross. I totally thought I was not going to be a fan of the first novel, but Lu pulled out some major epicness and made me a gaming believer. The more I think about this novel, the more I realize just how epic Warcross is and how much I can’t wait for another part! I AM READY FOR THE REMATCH.

the storm runnerGoodreads / Amazon / Barnes and Noble

A contemporary adventure based on Maya mythology from Rick Riordan Presents!

Zane has always enjoyed exploring the dormant volcano near his home in New Mexico, even though hiking it is challenging. He’d much rather hang out there with his dog, Rosie, than go to middle school, where kids call him Sir Limps a Lot, McGimpster, or Uno—for his one good leg. What Zane doesn’t know is that the volcano is a gateway to another world and he is at the center of a powerful prophecy. A new girl at school, Brooks, informs him that he’s destined to release an evil god from the ancient Maya relic he is imprisoned in—unless she can find and remove it first. Together they return to the volcano, where all kinds of crazy happens. Brooks turns into a hawk, a demon attacks them in a cave, and Rosie gives her all while trying to protect Zane. When Zane decides to save his dog no matter the cost, he is thrust into an adventure full of surprising discoveries, dangerous secrets, and an all-out war between the gods, one of whom happens to be his father. To survive, Zane will have to become the Storm Runner. But how can he run when he can’t even walk well without a cane?

Feisty heroes, tricky gods, murderous demons, and spirited giants are just some of the pleasures that await in this fresh and funny take on Maya mythology, as rich and delicious as a mug of authentic hot chocolate.

Well, obviously I’m a certified Riordan fangirl, and I’m all about the mythology books. I’m so excited that Disney gave him his own imprint to showcase even more amazing mythology books. I’m so so so geeked for this one. With one of those ancestry places, my dad recently found out that our Mexican heritage is a bit more from the Mayan side than we ever thought. Therefore, I cannot wait to dive more into this mythology and this sounds like it’s going to be amazing especially with the disabled rep.

the cheerleadersGoodreads / Amazon / Barnes and Noble

There are no more cheerleaders in the town of Sunnybrook.

First there was the car accident—two girls gone after hitting a tree on a rainy night. Not long after, the murders happened. Those two girls were killed by the man next door. The police shot him, so no one will ever know why he did it. Monica’s sister was the last cheerleader to die. After her suicide, Sunnybrook High disbanded the cheer squad. No one wanted to be reminded of the girls they lost.

That was five years ago. Now the faculty and students at Sunnybrook High want to remember the lost cheerleaders. But for Monica, it’s not that easy. She just wants to forget. Only, Monica’s world is starting to unravel. There are the letters in her stepdad’s desk, an unearthed, years-old cell phone, a strange new friend at school. . . . Whatever happened five years ago isn’t over. Some people in town know more than they’re saying. And somehow Monica is at the center of it all.

There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn’t mean anyone else is safe.

Sha and I have hyped this book up so much, but I’ve absolutely loved Kara Thomas’s previous two books, so I simply cannot wait for this one. Fingers crossed this is brilliance!

the truth lies hereGoodreads / Amazon / Barnes and Noble

In small town Michigan, Penny, an aspiring journalist, teams up with the nerdy boy-next-door and the town’s star quarterback to find her conspiracy theorist father after he goes missing and several other townspeople turn up dead in the woods.

The deeper she digs, the weirder things start to get. Townspeople repeat the same phrases—verbatim. Men in black suits stroll around Main Street. Chunks of her memory go missing. Pretty soon, Penny’s research leads her to the long-ago meteorite crash in Bone Lake’s woods, and she’s going to have to reconsider her definition of “real” if she wants answers.. . .

Lol, is there a more me book than this book? Well, if only it had some Bigfoot in there and then it would be all good. Sam @ We Live and Breathe Books super recced this one for me, so I was sold enough to preorder it besides just fangirling from afar.

attack of the 50 foot wallflowerGoodreads / Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Phoebe Lane is a lightning rod for monsters.

She and her mom are forced to flee flesh-eating plants, radioactive ants, and blobs from outer space. They survive thanks to Phoebe’s dad—an invisible titan, whose giant eyes warn them where the next monster attack will take place.

All Phoebe wants is to stop running from motel to motel and start living a monster-free life in New York or Paris. But when her mom mysteriously vanishes, Phoebe is left to fend for herself in small-town Pennybrooke.

That’s when Phoebe starts to transform…

Christian McKay Heidicker, author of Cure for the Common Universe, returns with a book unlike any other, challenging perceived notions of beauty, identity, and what it means to be a monster.

And concludes my I’m Going to Be Broke in September month. This has Godzilla references. I repeat Godzilla references. And it sounds like so much fun and I just need this to be amazing.

  1. I don’t have any books on preorder, but I have a few that I already read from the library on my cart on Amazon. Debating whether or not I should get books I’ve already read even though I’m a rereader. I have Daughter of the Siren Queen, The Royals by Rachel Hawkins, Bookish Boyfriends…

The new read ones I want are The Kissing Quotient or whatever that’s called, The Broken Girls, and Sweet Black Waves. I also really want to get The Wicked Deep. It’s the cheapest on Amazon. I know I’ll probably reread that in October. I forgot to mention that one above. I really like that cover.

From your list I still need to read Warcross and the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. That cover for number three looks beautiful! The Cheerleaders or whatever looks pretty cool! It’s kind of like Pretty Little Liars. I also need to read Marie Lu’s other books that I have.

P.S. I just tried commenting a minute ago and WordPress kept saying I wasn’t following you even though I know I followed you last year and got started on here because of you, LOL. It’s being weird lately. I was logged in too.

    1. Oooooh yes! I have a lot of books like that on my list. Older books that I have read that I need to actually purchase. It’s hard sometimes since you know new books are coming.

And oooooh yes!! All of those are really good options too. I’ve heard The Kissing one is really good, and I’ve enjoyed the others. The cover is really good.

Yes!! I love that new Stalking Jack the Ripper one. It’s so pretty. And Warcross really did live up the hype for me. Super gamey though but I didn’t mind it so much. And lol yes, the Cheerleaders does!

And that is so weird. I haven’t seen that before. Sorry that it was struggling for you!! D:

  2. I actually don’t have anything pre-ordered right now, which is super weird for me. There are so many books I want to pre-order (including The Storm Runner from your list), but they’re so expensive right now that I can’t bring myself to order them even if they’re from auto-buy authors.

  3. I don’t pre-order, because I’m poor, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that my library gets The Cheerleaders and Wildcard. I am fan of both Thomas and Lu, and the end of Warcross just left me needing some answers. The Truth Lies Here was really good. I think I gave it 5-stars. The name dropping in the blurb was pretty spot on too.

  4. The cheerleader looks amazing and I’ve heard SO many good things. Anything VE Schwab is worth pre ordering IMEDIENTLY! Wildcard is a must! Also thinking of preordering Kingdom of Ash by SJM- great post Mandy 🙂

    1. Yesssssssssss! Thomas’s other books were really really good, so I think it’s going to be a great read! And FOR SURE. I’m ready to see her tackle more modern contemporary books…even though it’s still ghosties. And ooooh yes! Have you finished the series up to there? I know I’ve been seeing you go through the series on Goodreads.

      1. Oh, coupons, how I always miss thee. I’m trying to be super good though because of school and paying as much as possible towards my tuition, so I’m not supposed to be spending money. There are so many things I want to preorder though.

  5. I generally don’t pre-order (or even buy that many) books, but I like your choices! I totally remember you geeking out about Cheerleaders and the premise of The Truth Lies Here, so I am not at all surprised that these are on your list to pre-order! 😉

  6. I have Escaping Houdini and Wildcard on pre-order right now (and actually have ARCs of Escaping Houdini, Storm Runner and City of Ghosts) as well as a TON of other books. I will probably learn the hard way NOT to jump on all the pre-orders but for me, it’s easier to pre-order a book while I am already thinking about it (IE if it is part of a series and I have just finished and loved the book before it) so as to not forget about it when it actually comes out (does that make sense?) PLUS it is always super nice to get book mail :] Like I mentioned before, after I have pre-ordered something, I tend to forget about it (especially if it is super in advance like On the Come Up and Children of Virtue and Vengeance- both not due out until 2019) so when it shows up at my door, I get over excited again :]

    1. Oooooh that is too funny that we’re on the same wavelength with the preorders. And oooh yes! I am the same way! I like having that little alert just pop into my email inbox letting me know a shipment is on the way and I don’t have to worry about waiting for the release date and get some happy book mail. I’m totally with you! ❤

  7. CAN WE SCREAM ABOUT THE STORM RUNNER TOGETHER??? AND ALSO WILDCARD???? THOSE ARE TOO I AM SO READY FOR. Wildcard will be sent by the publisher to me so it’s technically *preordered* XD but I’m hoping to order Storm Runner soon. I’m also pre-ordering THE LIGHT BETWEEN THE WORLDS by Laura Weymouth because it is a post-Narnia(ish) book AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE READY TO READ A BOOK E V E R.

    1. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I’m so so so so so geeked for those. With that crazy ending for Warcross plus stakes are raised??????? I’m so so so intrigued where Lu will shatter our hearts more.

And yesssssssssssss. Storm Runner sounds so so so amazing and I’m ready for alllll the Mayan mythology.

Ooooh I didn’t know it was a post Narnia kind of book?????? Is it actual Narnia?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. It isn’t Narnia, but the author did say that the idea of Narnia and portal magic was a big inspiration so I’ll take whatever I can get.
The day someone actually writes a story set in Narnia, I might cry.

  8. I still have to read Hunting Prince Dracula, but I’m going to try and do that in September when I’m reading all the sequels. Or.. at least I hope I’ll be reading sequels?

WILDCARD. I’ve been waiting for that book ever since I finished Warcross. Seriously. The wait has been torture but it’s almost there!

This post kind of reminds me how I have to go over the upcoming releases and get some preorders in. [And then act as if I preordered them waaay before my book buying ban started.]

    Liked by 1 person

    1. ahahahaha YES. Sequel September does have a good ring to it. But it was a great read!

And yessssssssssssss. I’ve been waiting to see what happened and we will finally know!!

And you thought about them beforehand, right, Kathy? Totally counts. For sure counts.
