Waiting on Wednesday is a meme created by Breaking the Spine where each week we discuss upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas

the cheerleaders

There are no more cheerleaders in the town of Sunnybrook.

First there was the car accident—two girls gone after hitting a tree on a rainy night. Not long after, the murders happened. Those two girls were killed by the man next door. The police shot him, so no one will ever know why he did it. Monica’s sister was the last cheerleader to die. After her suicide, Sunnybrook High disbanded the cheer squad. No one wanted to be reminded of the girls they lost.

That was five years ago. Now the faculty and students at Sunnybrook High want to remember the lost cheerleaders. But for Monica, it’s not that easy. She just wants to forget. Only, Monica’s world is starting to unravel. There are the letters in her stepdad’s desk, an unearthed, years-old cell phone, a strange new friend at school. . . . Whatever happened five years ago isn’t over. Some people in town know more than they’re saying. And somehow Monica is at the center of it all.

There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn’t mean anyone else is safe.

I!! AM!!! SO!! EXCITED!! FOR!! THIS!! ONE!! I’ve absolutely enjoyed both of Kara Thomas’s other books – Little Monsters and The Darkest Corners – and I also think that Thomas just manages to keep getting better and better and I’m just so so so ready for this one. I’ve been missing my YA thrillers/mysteries so much, and this book sounds like the exact book to remedy my thirst for VENGEANCE…or, you know, the other people’s vengeance. Whatever.

What do you think? Are you excited for this book too? What book or books are on your waiting list? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  2. This book sounds like it could be so good. If it’s anything like The Darkest Corners and Little Monsters, I won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait for it to come out!
Also, I’m going to ComiCon tomorrow…and I found out the author for Daughter of the Pirate King is coming. Should I check her out?

And yes, I did! I bought a copy of the book (got two books, yay!) and she signed it! After I said how I got a ton of recommendations for it from book blogger friends, she said to thank them for her. And as you were one of the biggest recommenders…😉
