I do love me a good award show…although I’ve found them quite boring recently. However, book awards???? Yes, I’m so down for it! Thank you so much to Michaela @ Journey Into Books for tagging me for this! She has such a lovely blog full of fantastic review, amazing quote selections, book tags like this, and so much more. Plus, Michaela is such a lovely blogger and so super nice! Make sure to check out her blog!
I’m following Michaela’s lead and only picking books I read in 2018.
BEST ACTOR: BEST MALE PROTAGONIST
I’ve actually read a lot of male protagonists so far this year – which is super cool since they’re sort of a rare appearance in YA. I do have to go with my boy, Leo, though, in the Heroes of Olympus series. I LOVE THIS MAN AND HIS FURRY COACH.
BEST ACTRESS: BEST FEMALE PROTAGONIST
I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE?????? NOOOOOOOOO. So many fierce ladies out there. Um, I’m going to go with Evelyn from These Vicious Masks, since I adored her in the first two books of the series. She was so kickbutt and strong and humorous.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: BEST PLOT TWIST
Sweet Black Waves did a GIANT swerve at the end of the book that just left me going, BUT WHERE DID THAT CURVE COME FROM AND HOW DID I GET OFF THIS EXPRESSWAY?
BEST COSTUME DESIGN: BEST BOOK COVER
I do find something just so pleasing about this one.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS AND ACTOR: BEST MALE AND FEMALE SIDEKICK
Best Male Sidekick:
I’M TORN. I’M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TORN. COACH HEDGE AND MR. KENT ARE MY TOTALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LOVES. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THESE TWO BABIES???? I CANNOT. I’M DONE.
Best Female Sidekick:
I really did enjoy the female crew as sidekicks in Daughter of the Siren Queen. Such fierce, cool ladies that showcased epic female empowerment.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: MOST UNIQUE PLOT/WORLD
The Sleeper and the Spindle creatively combined Snow White and Sleeping Beauty together, and it was everything I never knew I needed.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: BEST BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATION
Um, um, um, I haven’t seen any. I have barely seen any movies, tbh. Just be watching my X-Files and Buzzfeed Unsolved like an ADULT.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: A BOOK THAT WOULD WORK WELL IN ANIMATED FORMAT
BABY X-FILES BABY X-FILES BABY X-FILES BABY X-FILES.
BEST DIRECTOR: A WRITER YOU DISCOVERED FOR THE FIRST TIME
I’ve actually read a lot of debuts this year, so I’ve been discovering a lot! Check out the books above to see some new authors that I’ve really enjoyed this year.
BEST SHORT FILM: BEST NOVELLA OR SHORT-BOOK
BEST PICTURE: BEST STAND-ALONE
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett! It’s the only book to make on the Mandy’s Favorites Shelf so far.
BEST DOCUMENTARY: BEST HISTORICAL FICTION
Of course, this has to go to my girl, Simone St. James. She does historical fiction like no otherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Tagging…
anyone that would like to dole out some much deserving book awards!
I could never do this. I am never able to pick “bests”. I even cop out with my Top Ten Tuesday and put a timeframe qualifier in. Some great choices. I am especially fond of Jenn Bennett, and am so happy to have finally started reading her books. They are a perfect match for me. I agree with you about Siren Queen – Alosa had a fantastic crew. I am such a fan of Rosalyn. I want Lenvenseller to age her up and give her a series.

Ahahaha it really is so hard sometimes. But that is smart to get it narrowed down. And yes! I need to get more onto her books! They seem so fluffy and feely. And yessssssssssss. I would love to see that too! Imagine all the fun! 😀

I’m counting down the moments until I can read about him popping up in there. I’m trying to drag it out so I can think about how he’s coming back. XD

Ooh, I’m intrigued to see what kind of plot twist Sweet Black Waves has, and I agree; The Dollmaker of Krakow totally has a gorgeous cover, and the premise for The Sleeper and the Spindle sounds so absolutely cool. ALSO, Leo and Coach Hedge ftw. 😉
Awesome post! I loved reading all your picks! 😀

I could see things coming, but I totally didn’t see the ultimate ending and then it was just all madness. And yesssssssssssssssssssssssss! Leo and Coach are just so much love. Thanks so much!! 🙂

Thank you very much, Jannin!! And yesssssssssss. He was probably the easiest pick!! I’m finally back in my Riordan game, and I just want to go back to Leo time.
And thank you!!! I had to add more princesses. XD

Are you planning on reading The Trials of Apollo??

I AM! I sadly am going for it for last. I heard there was pop-ups of people in it, so I figured I would read all the Riordan books before tackling that one.

Yes, you should save it for last. And I must warn you, brace yourself. It’s not going to be a smooth ride. But when did it ever had a smooth ride with Riordan’s books? Happy reading, Mandy! Tell me your thoughts when you read The Trials of Apollo! :*

Ohhhh this one looks like a lot of fun!! Great picks, Mandy!!! Choosing one character for each category would not work for me XD I have too many favourites!

Thank you!! And it got hard at some points. I’m like, OH NO. TOO MANY OPTIONS. Only doing 2018 books helped a bit…but just a bit. XD

Keeping it within the year is a good decision. I didn’t realize that until the end and I almost started yelling that Mandy didn’t make any awards to SoC or TLC!!!

Ahahahahaha apparently I just need to restrict myself to this to keep the references to a minimum, LOL. Unless I reread every year to slip them in, lol.
