The Winter Solstice. In a week. I was still new enough to being High Lady that I had no idea what my formal role was to be. If we’d have a High Priestess do some odious ceremony, as lanthe had done the year before. A year. Gods, nearly a year since Rhys had called in his bargain, desperate to get me away from the poison of the Spring Court to save me from my despair. Had he been only a minute later, the Mother knew what would have happened. Where I’d now be. Snow swirled and eddied in the garden, catching in the brown fibers of the burlap covering the shrubs My mate who had worked so hard and so selflessly, all without hope that I would ever be with him We had both fought for that love, bled for it. Rhys had died for it.
This isn’t really an angry two crowns as much as I didn’t care what was going on in this book at all two crowns. It was what – 230 pages? 230 pages, and there were only a few things that I only truly enjoyed and found myself somewhat interested in.
Maybe I’ve outgrown this series? I’ve always had such ups and downs with this series with not enjoying the first one that much, loving the second book, and very much disliking the second book. This one, I really wanted to draw me in again and find those feelings I had with the second book in the series. I wanted to be immersed. I want to care about Cassian’s plights with the camp. I wanted to feel things for Nesta more than harshly critiquing her choices. I wanted to fall deep in Feyre and Rhysand’s ship again and feel the need for binge looking at fanart. I wanted to see crazy good development for Mor.
What I got instead was none of them. However, I did immensely enjoy Amren in this novel. She was the shining star, and I loved her so much more than I had before. I enjoyed the decorating of Feyre and Cassian and I really did enjoy the gift giving and it showcased the wonderful dynamics of the crew. I liked seeing Elain and Az bring out something special in each other.
However, that’s about it. I feel like it did have more of a plot than I expected there to be (honestly, I was expecting to have a Hello, Plot, Are You There? It’s Me, Mandy moment). But I felt like no one progressed characterization wise, and nothing is really prompting me to pick up these next three books. Honestly, I’m really considering just stopping here.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad book, but I just felt that there is nothing really driving me forward to continue this series. I had no expectations for this book, and I really didn’t get too much in return. I think it’s fantastic for those that are really in deep with the book series because it did have a lot of fun moments, but if you’re one foot out the door with the series, I would say pass because it might have convinced me to call it quits. 2 crowns and a Cinderella rating!
What do you think? What did you want from this book? What makes you call it quits on a series? How do you feel about this series? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
I wanted to like it more. One of the few things I liked was Nesta and Cassian tension. I get why people are defending the book since it is a novella, but I expected more.
And I wish the author would bloody decide about Mor and Az, who doesn’t deserve this back and forth. The issue is just dividing the fandom even more. I just hope the next instalment is better.

I totally agree about Mor and Az. I feel like I really start to like her less and less because of the weird tension. I definitely hope Maas clears things up in the next book since it won’t be a novella.

I’m so excited to read this book. Just like you, I was lukewarm with the first one, then really loved the second one, and thought the third one dragged in places. It’ll be interesting to see what I think of this one.

Yes! I hope you like it. I think it definitely gets you deeper with the characterization of a few of the characters at least.

It was. 😦 Have you had a chance yet for it? I don’t think I’ve seen it on Goodreads yet, but I couldn’t remember.

Nope, I own it so it tends to get bumped by my library reads. And there are a lot of those.

Ahhhhhhhhh yes. I totally see that. 😦 It is a pretty shelf book candy, though, so it can look pretty for a second.

Sorry this didn’t live up to everything you wanted, Mandy! I had to really skim this cuz I haven’t read the series. But I’m honestly no longer looking forward to it! XD

It’s such a weird rollercoaster, Rendz. Like, I don’t know even how to describe it. I will be super interested to see what you think of it eventually.

I stick to my saying ACOFAS is more of a “filler” like we often see in tv shows. It’s a pity really. I liked what we got, but I simply expected more.. More events, more action, more.. SOMETHING.

I do agree, Kathy! I did want maybe a little more fun or more set up for the next part of the series. But I’m not entirely sure. Maybe the next book will have all our hopes and dreams in it?? XD

I definitely hope so! It wouldn’t be a Maas-book otherwise, right?! And the teaser looks promising enough, haha. 😀

Ahahahaha so very true! And I have a habit of not reading teasers, so I might need to go back to it to get me hyped up for it.

Usually I skip them as well because they get my all excited for a book that isn’t coming out for ages but I couldn’t stop myself, haha.

Ahahaha yes, very true! It’s best sometimes not to read them because you just want them too much. And you know you’ll never read them right away either because of the est of the TBR.

I can’t even tell you in words how much I agree with that statement. Sequels are my downfall. They’re always on my tbr for AGES.

YES. I don’t know why it is, but I just know I never want to get to that sequel because it’s really just a filler. XD Most of the time, I just wait on them so long I just take them off my TBR. XD

Hahaha, that’s something I don’t do. I get to them eventually but it takes me quite some time before I do. 😛 I don’t even want to know how many sequels will be on my Sequel September TBR. xD

Ahahahahaha. Do you reread the first book before you get to them or try to go back to them without it? I think my biggest issue is that I don’t usually want to reread, lol.

I usually look up some kind of summary on the webs to refresh my memory. So far it worked every time so.. yea, no rereading for me either, haha.

Ooooh, that’s a perfect idea. I really need to start doing that. Because rereads are a struggle sometimes. D:

I knoooow! Although I’m totally feeling Harry Potter right now. That is one reread I’m not having trouble with. [So far. Knocking on wood here because I don’t want to jinx it. xD]

*knocks on wood with you so it’s true* And that’s good that the mood is leading you to the right reread so far, lol.
