Mandy’s TBR of Shame

mandy's tbr of shame

I figured it was time to investigate my TBR and see just how many unread books I actually have. I always get so confused on what books I actually have and haven’t read in all my different book spots. How many books do you have on your physical TBR? Do we have any of the same? Are some of your favorites or least favorites on it that I need to get on ASAP? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I started cataloging my books (haven’t finished yet but of the ones I have, 155 I haven’t read. I always have this intention to read them and then I end up at the library checking out more.

    1. YES. That’s the same thing for me. I see all of the new releases at the library and I’m like, OOH, I NEED TO READ THIS…even though I had no desire to before I got there and we have all of these at home.

  2. I cannot even think about doing this exercise, because I know my number will be really high. I see a bunch of books I really loved (Museum of Heartbreak, Labyrinth Lost, ToG, Truthwitch, The Wicked Deep, Legend, Wild Beauty, Love and First Sight), and a couple I would LOVE to have (Siren Queen, Obsidio). Hope you get to some of them soon.

    1. Ahahahaha the more that I went on, the more I regretted it a bit since it just kept going higher and higher. But oooh I’m super glad to see that some favorites are in there, and I’m totally going to have to get on those ones first. 😉 And yes!

      1. The Book Thief makes me SOB. But my goodness is it so worth it. I actually recommend it to everyone it’s so beautiful and gorgeous and I am in love.
And yes I LOVE THE START OF ME AND YOU I super relate to Paige which is a big part of it and her friend group is super cute and sweet and I just want to be friends with them.

      2. OH NO. But that sounds nice as well?? XD It’s my plan to knock it out this year, but obviously I need to do it when I’m not in a public place of any sort. And oooooh that sounds adorable and fun. When I’m back in the contemp mood, that’s going to be the first one I have to tackle.

  3. I have around 80 unread books in my shelves right now. But I have a plan too prioritize them before buying new ones, right now I only have 2 book that I really really really want to read that I will buy this year soo hopefully the unread ones will become smaller and smaller during the year.

  4. It’s ok! I think that shameful TBRs are a common part of the book community! I honestly don’t even know how mnay books I have to read that I already own. Many more than I would like, that’s for sure. But hey, at least you can never say that you have nothing to read!

      1. YES. I forever am doing this. I’m like, oh, I have nothing to read so it’s time to go the library to check out 7 books. XD I don’t get why books do this to us. XD

  5. I don’t keep books I’ve read, unless I plan to reread them. They go to friends, family, or traded for books my kids want on Paperbackswap. Still, I have a cabinet and a closet FULL of books that I need to get to. Am reading 2 of them right now!

    1. I do the same! If I enjoyed them, I keep them, but the rest can go to much other needed places like you said – friends, family, or I donate a lot to the library. But oh no! At least you’re not going to be at a loss of books for a while. 😉

  6. I’m afraid it’s reached the point of critical mass around here. The bookshelves are all full, there’s a pile by bed, one in the corner, and I’m afraid to look at the basement. I have no ideas of actual numbers. I’ve just made a goal not to buy a physical copy of a book unless I get rid of one too. So it’s not really helping the situation, but at least it’s a start.

    1. OH NO. I haven’t gotten to the pile yet, but it’s getting really close. I have a small one growing on the desk. But I like that plannnnnnnnnn. That way you’re at least not adding to the problem. 😉

    1. I’m so impressed and jealous, Moira, lol. I remember from when I first starting following you that I was always like, Moira always has her book act together with her small physical TBRs. 😉

      1. I could “only” afford to buy three, so I asked for them for Christmas… nada. And now my birthday… still probably nada so I’m working with what I’ve got. They’re constantly being fixed but technically they’re more or less done.

  7. I have over 160 books on my TBR right now so, really, you’re still good. Trust me. :’)

You do have Daughter of the Siren Queen on your TBR! I looove Alosa and I loved that book so much! I finished it in no time at all, haha. Couldn’t stop reading the thing. I need more books with pirates.

    1. Okay, I feel a little bit better then, but also oh no. XD Poor Kathy but also epic Kathy?

And lol forget that other question on the other one because I missed this. XD But ooooooooooooh, okay, now I’m excited. I’m hoping to get to it soon since I need it to be amazing and pirate feels and female pirate feels and I can’t. There really needs to just be just a ton of pirate books out.

      1. Poor, epic Kathy sounds about right, haha! At least you’ll never hear me say I don’t have anything to read. [And if I do say that, please lock me up with my bookcases..]

Even I forgot I already said something about it on your other post but I’m blaming my half-sleeping brain for that one, haha!
Right?! I also love how both the books start with a Jack Sparrow-quote. That just makes the whole thing even better. ❤

      2. Ahahaha so very true. XD But sometimes it does happen??? XD

YES. I love the Jack Sparrow quotes, too. It’s just so much brilliance. But lol. Too many fangirling over the same book in different places that we are bound to forget it somewhere.

      3. And that’s the weird part! And somehow also the best part since it gives us an excuse to buy books, y’know.. xD

Exactly! Especially if you have a million tabs open and went from one post to the other and another and another. Oops.

      4. YES. I think the real reason I want to get through some of the books on this TBR is to be like, well, I knocked off a few, so I can buy new ones as a reward. It’s a neverending cycle for us.

        LOL. YES.

        Liked by 1 person

      5. OH NO. XD That is such an issue. You were totally fine not having their books until you actually met them and then you’re like nvm, I NEED TO BUY THEM ALL AT THIS MOMENT. XD I’m super excited you’re going to meet the author and get signed book but yes goodbye money.

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Right?! Although I have to admit that I checked this weekend and I only need to buy one more book? I actually own at least one book of all other authors? I’m SO PROUD OF MYSELF. [Or maybe I shouldn’t be since I read only one of the six I have but hey..]

  8. Omg Mandy….I’m afraid to count. Like I will be so ashamed of myself. I am a faster buyer than I am a reader…
    Ok I’ll count…
I came to a grand total of 53 (Not counting my e-arcs which would add like another 5)
Wow. I need to sit my butt down and read. I mean a couple of them I will probably never read sooooooo I may have to donate them, but still. I have a problem.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I AM TOO. You just click it and then you have it but reading it????
Okay, not as bad as first thought but still a LOT. But yes, donating is good and then you LESS. LESS IS…well, I mean, not so good because less books is sad. THIS IS ROUGH.

      Like

      1. But if I donate then my brain’s like “We have room for more” and my heart is like “Buy more. Buy more” and then my wallet wails in a corner empty but my shelves would be restocked and overflowing.
        The struggle is real.

  9. According to my Goodreads I have over 400 something TBR books. I’ve got about 425 on my Kindle downloaded to keep up with the ebook unreads. I need to stop requesting ARC’s but I want to keep my blog active ARC wise.

I agree that you need to read The Start of Me and You. I finished that on break at my old job and one of my friends could tell I finished a book and she told everybody, “Leave her alone. She finished a book!!” Haha. The manager even tried to get to me about it.

    1. Oh no! XD That’s a lot, Colleen, but I totally get it. You need to keep up with it, but also, a lot of actual physical books that you do have are getting lost in the shuffle.

Ahahahaha omigosh, that’s amazing. But I’m excited!! 😀
