February Wrap-Up / March TBR

February was oddly one of the best reading months that I’ve had in, like, ever? I read so many four and five crown reads that even Goodreads was, like, girl, I’m impressed so I’m going to make your dismal average rating on here a .01 better. Round of applause, everyone? I read a total of 16 books this month, which I mean, seems pretty good for only 28 days, but I did find myself dwindling due to real life situations. I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER?

The Best of the Month

As I said, there was actually quite a few really good reads that I read this month. I had quite a few four and five star reads.

Four crowns: Wires and Nerve Vol. 1 reread, Tiger Lily audiobook, Down and Across, Nothing Left to Burn, All We Can is Wait, and The Son of Neptune Graphic Novel.

Five crowns: The Blood of Olympus, Sky in the Deep, The Broken Girls, and American Panda

I know, I bet a few of you have completely fainted or can’t stop blinking your eyes at the screen, because this must not be real life???? When has Mandy ever done THIS well? NEVERRRRRRRRRR. Because she’s a picky little book hipster. There was just some great reads this month. My two favorites were Sky in the Deep and American Panda, which were fighting for a spot on the favorites shelf, and The Broken Girlssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Omigosh, it was just as amazing as I thought it would be AND I STILL HAVEN’T STOPPED CRYING OVER IT. That review is going to be a fangirling mess. The Blood of Olympus was a great finale book, too, but I’m sad to be done with that series now.

The Worst of the Month

There was nothing really too terrible. I DNF’d two books, but they really weren’t for any reason other than I just wasn’t feeling it. I don’t think I could get into Assassin’s because I just didn’t feel connected with anyone enough to care. And The Cruel Prince…was maybe a little too cruel? IDK. The other books just got 3 crowns for me for just being okay.

February Book Haul

March TBR

So, I think I have a lot of reread plans for March, since I have two books that I’ve been eagerly waiting to come out but I kind of want to reread the previous books before them so I get the full impact??? I just want to bask in full knowledge since I’m super forgetful.

The For Sure’s

The Maybes????

I have so many different books that are floating around in my head right now. Since I’ve been doing a lot of rereads and Sha and I have been talking about a lot of the old reads we used to read together, I feel like I want to go back and reread a lot of the old stuff and see if I was super crazy for liking it (aka me going on a trash read because some of this stuff was sketch, sorry old me). But also I don’t have any concrete feels going on right now and no direction that I have to take since I got almost all my ARCs out of the way again except for just one. SO be prepared for so random stuff.

The Other Randoms

I gave a pretty big update the other day about all the randomness that is going on in my life. If you’re intrigued by the big things (lol BIG things by which I mean the totally lame things that are somehow big in my life), click here to find out more! Recap: I finished The X-Files, we did some changes, and Sha is running a new Facebook page.

I came down with some sort of sickness, too, on Monday, so I’m a bit of slow going with getting back to a few things, but I seem mostly better now. Thank you, holy power of Gatorade and binge watching the show Dark on Netflix. You have helped me immensely?

What do you think? What was your month like? Did we share any of the same reads? Do we share any of the same book for next month’s tbr? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I can still remember the time I read The Blood of Olympus! It feels just like yesterday! Oh Calypso! 💕

  2. Not reading the same books as you in March but I loved The Cruel Prince. I wonder what you’ll think of Heart of Iron though 😉

  3. I sadly didn’t finish a ton of books this month; my favorite video game has been taking reading time away lol. But I’m so excited to read Sky in the Deep and American Panda 🙂 and to be honest, I’ve lost desire to read Cruel Prince…not completely, but it’s not a priority…

    1. Oh no! That will definitely do it. XD But at least it was fun to do. 😉 But yessssssssssss. They are so good, and I totally think you’re going to enjoy them so much. I know you read a teaser, I think, for Sky in the Deep, and it somehow picks up even MORE than the first few chapters. But yeah, I was sucked into the hype for a second, but it has lost a lot of steam. Interested to see what you do think when you give it a try.

    1. Ooooooh yes! I always get so intrigued when it does that. I’m like, YES. SUCCESS but also I’m losing my grip. XD But I’m so glad that you had a good book month!! It’s always such a satisfying feeling that makes you think you can take on the book world. And lol I don’t knowwwwwwwwwwwww, Ashley. Possibly because I’m realizing I don’t have one??? XD but pictures inside a lot of them helped. 😉

  4. Truly Devious was a lot of fun, although maybe wait until the next book comes out? (It’s a trilogy, so it leaves a lot of unanswered questions. While it was fun, there were things I liked much less than others, another reason to wait for the next book. I enjoyed it, but maybe waiting is for the best? I dunno.

    1. Ooooh, good to know, Kate. You are my mystery guru, so if it was fun and a good mystery from Kate then I must read it. But that sounds like a great idea. I saw a lot of reviews after I started it that the ending was crazy, so I’m like, book 2 waiting sounds like a good plan.

      1. Well, while I can say it’s probably the weakest mystery I’ve read of late (I preferred Silence of the Lambs, I Hunt Killers, and One of Us is Lying), I’m not judging at least until the second book comes out. It was still a lot of fun, and I do recommend it. There were just things I didn’t care for at first (I even found myself preferring the cold case chapters at first), but by the end of the book I had really warmed up to those parts. My problem was that they hadn’t seemed relevant at first, and then stuff happens and it becomes relevant. Let’s just say the reviews are right on the ending. So maybe wait till book 2 comes out, less waiting that way.

      2. Ooooooh, okay, good to know. I’m definitely going to do that. Still sounds super intriguing, and is it just me or does it seem like there is less and less YA mysteries going on lately? So I have to take any we get, but I’m following your advice on it.

      3. Hmm…Honestly, I’ve been seeing MORE, but that may be because I got back into reason around August 2016 (once I joined WordPress, XD) and had been out of the YA zone. But I can definitely see where you’re coming from; several of the mysteries I like (with the exception of books like One of Us is Lying and Truly Devious,) came out a while ago. Although there are two books I am interested in that are mystery; S.T.A.G.S and People Like Us. Have you heard anything about those two books?

      4. Interesting. I might not be looking in the right direction. 😉 I used to be better at finding them, I think. But yes! I’m still determined to get me a copy of I Hunt Killers since I know you love it so much. To be honest, I’ve seen no reviews of People Like Us, but it sounded really good. I’ve only seen one or two reviews of S.T.A.G.S. and they were just okay reviews.

      5. Hmm. Maybe you’re right and I’m wrong, or vice versa. Who knows. And I hope I’m not hyping up I Hunt Killers too much, it was just sort of my own kind of book series (I’m such a sucker for a true psychological thriller/mystery). People Like Us looked really good, so that’s why I’m asking. It seemed to have a fascinating concept. And ah, I’ve just heard a lot about S.T.A.G.S, some good, and some not so good.

      6. Lol, I got the audiobook the other day, and I knocked out the first disc yesterday. It’s very fascinating. Especially the audiobook because he does the creepy dad voice with such precision. I’m intrigued to see where it’s going. You’re so right about it being super psychological.

YES. I’m kind of a sucker for the subgenre of YA mystery of boarding schools, too. Hopefully they are both brilliant for us??

      7. Ooh…I’ve never heard the audiobook. I only read it. It must be so creepy to hear the narrator do the dad’s voice 😂 Yikes. And it is really psychological (especially the last book, IMO)
        I definitely hope they’re good, I’m intrigued.

      8. Omigosh, he has this slow drawl and I’m LIKE NO. STOP IT. The way the narrator does Howie, though, I’m kind of crying because it’s so weird. I do have to give the narrator credit, though. And ooooh.
Yes! Fingers crossed for us, Kate. XD

      9. Lol I think he was trying to make like a bro/Shaggy from Scooby Doo kind of voice for Howie? It’s just kind of totally random. But I can see what you mean about the psychology. You get in DEEP, which is just so fascinating. I don’t know how Lyga does it.

  5. Great wrap up Mandy!! You read so many great books! I’m dying to read Sky in the Deep, it sounds so good and it earned your high praise how can I not pick it up!!! Also, Wires and Nerve vol 2 review coming from me soon….BUT YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!! WE MUST DISCUSS!!!!

    1. Thanks so much, Rendz!! ❤ But yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Rendz, you're going to loveeeeeeeeee it. It feels like a Rendz-loving book. it was just so well done and there's a total cutie and so much Viking-like epic action. aikjowagnjkaregnrj = my thoughts. And ikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. It needs to happen stat, but I have apparently died out on it because too many books sound good at the moment.

But thank you!! Hopefully yours too! ❤

  6. Last year I won Pirate King through a GR giveaway and got an ARC. This year, no such luck for Siren Queen, and PK was one of my faves last year. I am on a wait list at the library, so hopefully I get to read it soon. I need to get These Vengeful Souls too. I need to see how this all ends. I keep itching to download The Broken Girls, because I keep seeing raves for it, but I have so many review books right now. –sigh–

    1. Oh gosh, yes! That one ended crazy, too, so hopefully the library gets it soon!!! I finally got my copy the other day, but of course, I got sick so I haven’t had the chance to devour it yet. But yessssssssssss. I don’t want it to end, but I also desperately need to know what happens because the end of Ruthless Deeds was one of the wildest ending I’ve seen in a long time. But oh no! I will super super super recommend it, Sam, but I know the struggle of far too many review books. I did binge read it in, like, two days if that helps?
