I’m at the point now where I’m kind of all over the place with who I’m choosing. Villains one week, then a hero, then a heroine?? Wait, hang on. I might have set myself a pattern without realizing it. Intriguing. I’m just rolling with it because there are kind of so many Disney characters for the picking!
However, this week is…
Naveen!
Oh swooooooooon. Look at that dreamboat. He actually is on a boat at one point, but he is a boat all himself for dreams. THAT HAIR. THAT STRONG JAWLINE. I AM SOLD!!! Except, I mean, the man has little motivation other to literally run around New Orleans playing the ukulele? But he can get away with it since I just gaze at him most of the movie.
So, what is Naveen like if you’ve never seen The Princess and the Frog? He’s passionate about what he wants, he loves his music and has dreams for what he wants, he’s flirty and fun, and he is the life of any party. He’s energetic and funny and can be quite humble, devoted, and romantic. However, I mean, the man does have a few shortcomings. He’s a quite a bit arrogant, he very self-centered, and he’s quite lazy. He does NOT want to get a job and really wants to take the easy way out. Half Carswell Thorne before he had his change of heart. This man totally needed Tiana to bring out the best of him – and that she does – and he becomes a swoonboat instead of just a dreamboat.
What YA books would Naveen set down his ukulele for?
Chasing Eveline by Leslie Hauser
This is one of the best music novels that I’ve ever read. It actually describes music the way it can be sort of heard? The descriptions were done absolutely wonderfully, and I could feel it in my bones. Naveen would absolutely love it, and totally feel the music coming alive in this story. Plus, maybe Naveen can learn some tips on focus and determination??
Down and Across by Arvin Ahmadi
This is a story about learning how to be gritty. Well, it’s a story about how one young man found his grit and his passion and determination to actually stick with something. He also found a girl who was definitely the life of the party who helped him along the way. I think Naveen would see himself in Scott who is struggling to stick with something and the pressures of parents who want him to have his life figured out. Plus, Fiora helps him figure out some stuff, just like Tiana.
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Cath is a baker, dreaming about one day opening up her own bakery just like Tiana. They are both determined, passionate, and lovers of baked foods. I feel like Naveen would get a kick out of reading about a character just like Tiana and if he got hungry after reading these fantastic descriptions, he could just go beg Tiana for some delicious food.
The Lightning Thief Graphic Novel
With the way that Naveen does kind of hop (lol frog pun) from one party to another, I feel like he would like the ease of graphic novels – you get all the action and adventure (especially in Percy) in a short amount of time so he can go back to his music playing.
#Prettyboy Must Die by Kimberly Reid
I definitely think Naveen would love this one. He is well accustomed to running from a shady bad guy who wants to kill him off. Plus, he totally would have the issue of a random girl taking his picture, calling him pretty boy, and it going viral. It’s packed with action and adventure and a female love interest that is tough like Tiana, helping to save the day.
A Book Naveen would NOT pick up
All We Can Do Is Wait by Richard Lawson
I think it’s all there in the name? I can’t see Naveen being into waiting at all. I don’t think he would have the patient to go through books with intense characterization and focus and emotional. I think he would give a hard pass on it, although it’s a rather good book.
Want to read more about Naveen?
He’s loosely based on the main character in The Princess in the Frog, but it is quite loosely, for sure since I don’t think the original prince has much depth at all. There haven’t been too many YA adaptions of this fairytale in recent years, but in the most recent one, Frogkisser, there is no prince even.
Haha this is such a creative post! Loved reading it!

Those are definitely books that I think would be up his alley. Such a fun read! He is definitely not one of my favorite princess… The number one goes to Aladdin forever and always. But I forget, who is your favorite prince?

Thank you, Kyera! Yeah, I totally have a love/hate relationship with him. I’m like, dude, you need to get yourself together but also enjoy him too. XD But yessssssssss. Aladdin is fantastic (I really need to rewatch it again to get his proper love). And that probably goes to Flynn…or should I call him Eugene. He’s my love. One of my favorite princes, too, isn’t even from Disney but from Anastasia. XD

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss. And okay, that’s what i thought too. Do we have a thing for thieves, Kyera? XD That’s the common trait in all of them.

Bahaha I have wondered that myself. The slightly mysterious thief with a heart of gold? 💜
