January Wrap-Up / February TBR

January started off with me trying to read as many books as I could to get my Goodreads goal off the ground, but it got a little bumpy in the middle and ended up on a high note. I’m super pleased with what I got accomplished, and I’m thinking 2018 might be off to a good reading start??? Fingers crossed. I read 17 books this month, and here’s what I read:

The Best of the Month

Well, there was nothing that really really really stuck out to me as the best of the month, and nothing achieved five crown status. But there were a few stories that I really did enjoy. I’ve been super enjoying The Heroes of the Olympus story with The Son of Neptune being my favorite so far.

I also am in super fangirl mode over Things I Should Have Known since I binge read it all when I should have been finishing this up. I also really enjoyed The Mortal Instruments Graphic Novel and Love, Hate, and Other Filters.

The Worst of the Month

There were a few bumps in the road. Most of my reads that weren’t these books were 2 or 3 crowns. Most things were just feeling a bit flat to me this month, and I’m not sure if it was me or the books. Pitch Dark didn’t work out the way I wanted it too, and #PrettyBoy Must Die got my first ever Pocahontas rating, so that could be interesting. Batman was kind of disappointing, too, when I was expected a bit more.

The Books Hauled in the Month

Thank you, Book Outlet, for having a bunch of books to continue my Riordan spiral and Hunted, which I’ve been eyeing for a while after enjoying it last year.

Personal Update

Well, I guess bigger things happened this month? This year started off on a curious note. I’ve gotten to be super productive on my blog content, I ADDED GRAPHICS???, and I’m finally seeming to be back after months of hiatusing on accident. So yay team?

We added the wonderful Sha to the Book Princess Reviews community, and her additions have just been everything I didn’t know we were missing?? Her makeup is amazinggggg, and she shares the same love of books as all of us, so I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the rest of us this year!

In real personal update news, I got a new job, that is more like a regular regular job than what I was doing. That means more strict hours for me and a long commute, so I’m not sure how this is going to go. It definitely might be putting a cramp in my blogging/reading style at some point, but I’m so excited since this is a job that is going to be a launching point in my career for what I wanted to do. Also, I’m giving audiobooks a try again so be on the lookout for a lot more reviews from them. And I’m in a graphic novel binge so definitely be prepared to see a lot of reviews coming about them in the next few months.

Alsooooooooooo, I’ve been finally getting officially caught up on The X-Files, SINCE IT IS BACK AND THE NEW EPISODES HAVE BEEN AMAZING AND I CAN’T HANDLE IT. By now, I will officially have been done (lol jk this was me being hopeful when writing this a week ago) so now I’ll be needing a new show to binge completely.

February TBR

I’m still not quite doing an official TBR, since I don’t know what I’m doing half of the time with my reading. I’m still in the Riordan spiral, and I know I have a few new releases that is supposed to be hitting my doorstep. So, let’s see a few things that I will for sure be trying to read.

What was your January like? What do you have planned for February? Do we have any of the same?

  1. No similar books whatsoever! WHAT!
Of course I already read The Cruel Prince – I hope you’re going to love that one! – so I guess that counts? Somewhat? I might go in for a reread though! I want to know if there’s a different experience to reading the finished copy after reading an ARC, haha.

I also read 17 books this month! Although I’m keeping my fingers crossed for maybe, maybe finishing number 18 tonight but that’ll depend on.. well.. chores. *bleh*
Next month isss Fantastic February! All the fantasy and paranormal books! [Not really but more than usual, probably.] Planning on finishing some series and hopefully starting and finishing some as well. We’ll see how it goes. 😀

Happy reading, girl! And good luck on the job!

    1. Oh no, Kathy, we failed!! XD Next month for sure. 😉
Ahahahah, yes! I think it counts. But I’m super excited. I’ve seen like one or two meh reviews of it, but everyone seems to love it, and knowing you did before, I’m super excited for it.

And oooooh, did you end up finishing that 18th book? I added one too before the month was over too. XD

Ooooh that sounds like a super fun theme! But yes! Finishing series is such a fantastic feeling, so I hope you have some great reads! ❤

You too and thanks, Kathy! ❤

      1. We’re awesome failures, haha! 😀
Exactly! I love how people are all positive about The Cruel Prince and getting way excited to read it if they hadn’t yet. Seriously though, who can resist cruel faeries anyway?!

I DID! And I’m so proud too since I.. didn’t really like it..? I thought I was going to give up on it for sure. :’D

I love my monthly challenges, haha!
Throne of Glass-series is up first! 😀 [So I can finally relax whenever someone starts breathing down my neck that I haven’t read them all yet..]

        You’re welcome! ❤

      2. Ahahahaha awesome, indeed. XD
So true. XD I feel like there hasn’t been this hyped of a book in such a long time. Faeries bring out the cheer, I guess. XD

Ooooooh I’m super interested about what you will think of the Throne of Glass books. I just started the prequel so we will have to compare notes as we go along. 😉 But monthly challenges can be so much fun. 😉

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Definitely! There are also simply not enough amazing fae books, I think. At least not that I know of? Throne of Glass is definitely way up there as well. ❤

I'm falling more and more in love with those books! Heir of Fire felt a bit off to me but I do know why that is [don't want to spoil you in any way although.. yeah idk, not taking risks, haha] but I really love them! Queen of Shadows is my favorite so far!
They are. I keep setting myself monthly challenges; trying to create some fun stuff so others can participate as well. + I found a Facebook group where they do monthly book battles in four teams which is SO MUCH FUN already, haha. 😀

      4. Yes! Before, I used to hear about so many of them quite a few years ago, but it was more a trend then where they weren’t true fae books. Basically the Twilight formula with fae.

And ooooooooh, okay, good to know. I’m still in Assasin’s Blade and I’m struggling a bit with it since I think I’m not quite invested in it because it’s only the prequels. But I think I’ve heard that about Queen of Shadows. I’m so glad that you are enjoying the series so much, Kathy!!! ❤

Omigosh, how fun does that sound. Book battles??? I love it! XD Makes reading even more fun than it already is. XD

        Liked by 1 person

      5. Exactly! I hate when that happens though.. When there’s a hype around a “theme” like that, I’m just.. No..

I read Assassin’s Blade after reading Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight. People told me that was the way to go and I can see why since I was waaay more invested in Celaena’s past because I already loved her character so much.
I hope you’ll love them as much as I am eventually! 😀

RIGHT?! It’s like.. superfood for the competitiveness in me, haha!

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Yes! Even if I’m fan of theme, I just avoid because it just gets weird, lol.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that makes so much more sense. My friend told me the only way to do it was this way. I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE WISE KATHY. And I’m sure I will since you are loving them so much!! ❤

        But lol yes. XD

      7. Exactly!

I asked multiple people before I started them, haha. I wanted to be sure I was reading them right. [I had this stupid situation where I read the Six of Crows-duology before I even KNEW there was a trilogy in the same world and now I still haven’t read the Grisha-trilogy.. So now I ALWAYS ask people :’)]
        I HOPE SO!! ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      8. Hahaha. They’re in the same world and since the trilogy comes first, you have way more of a background and insight in it but I honestly didn’t find it bothering me at allll.
Right?! I feel like it takes me a ton more effort to pick up entire series than to read standalones.. :’)

      9. The yearly ones? Okay. The monthly one for February? NOOOOOPE. I am supposed to be reading all my fantasy series [or like try to read a ton of them] but, guess what, my brain decides to stick to contemporary.
Not to mention my requesting spree on NG. I should NOT have done that.. But I will survive!

        How’s your reading oing?

        Liked by 1 person

      10. Ahahahaha oh no. XD That’s good and bad. Sometimes our brains are just mean to us like that and can’t seem to get that you know, we have themes that we want to do. Oh gosh. How many did you end up getting?

And it’s going well, I think. Maybe. I’m confused honestly on what I’m actually reading right now. I was doing well, and then…I”m so lost right now, lol. XD

        Liked by 1 person

      11. Right?! Like, without the challenge I’m okay with my brain going contemporary on me but I started those challenges for a reason, darnit!
Uuh, 10 or something like that? I read three of them by now though! But.. Like.. Requested three more an hour ago because I have no self-restraint..

Hahaha! Oh boy. Time to find a compass and get back on track – or something like that. 😛 This week I’m all about finishing my three current reads – fingers crossed I’ll succeed. :’) [One has been on there since December, yay..]

    1. I don’t usually do either because I get to be such a mood reader, but I’m trying to be more organized again, lol. But yessssssssssssss, it sounds so good!! Hope we both enjoy it! ❤

  2. I can relate to a job with a long commute. I opt to use mass transit, which gives me a solid 3 – 3.5 hours of reading a day. Silver lining. Good luck with balancing it all. I absolutely loved Down and Across. I hope you like it too.

  3. Congratulations on your new job! I don’t think we mind if it affects your blogging schedule; this is super important!
And hey, if you’re getting more into graphic novels, maybe catch up on some Webtoons….? (😉)
And wow, getting caught up on the X-Files? Impressive! (I only discovered it’s on Hulu a short time ago, and I need to start season 3 over…maybe. I need to see how much I remember.)

    1. Thanks so much, Kate! ❤ And lol, IKR, RIGHT? I will get it together soon. I think once I'm out of the remaining eARCs, they will be the perfect things to read on my lunch break and before work.
Ahahahah, yes, it was the selling point for me to pick Hulu. I think I'm nine episodes away from being officially all finished up. But lol it's amazing how foggy things get with it.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Well, it is a big deal!
Okay, that sounds good! They are a good thing to read during short breaks, as they’re usually shorter than most chapters in books.
Yep, X-Files is a great reason to get Hulu. I think that was part of the reason for me, but so is Firefly (still need to watch) and the GIGANTIC anime selection.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. That’s what I’m thinking! Soon enough, I’ll be devouring them like there is no tomorrow.
Yes! Um, them having Sailor Moon was another reason too. They do have some amazing collections of things you can’t find anywhere else which is great. I need to watch Firefly, too. XD We shall one day, Kate!! 😉

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Yay!
Haha, I nearly forgot about your love for Sailor Moon. But I do admit that Hulu has a lot of stuff that’s unavailable elsewhere.
Yeah, it’s like I want to watch Firefly, but at the same time I keep putting it off and distracting myself with other shows. Sigh.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Ahahahaha oh no. XD But yes! I definitely think it’s worth the extra amount. And I like how it has next day premiere on a lot of stuff.
Ahahahaha well, it will probably be around for a while so it can always be binge watched later?

  4. Wow 17 books! Thats impressive! Hope you can keep up the reading this year and congrats on your new job!
If your looking for a new show Riverdale and The Good Doctor are what I’m currently obsessed with but if your looking for a show to binge watch I LOVE Sons of Anarchy!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much! Fingers crossed! Okay, I heard a few different things about Riverdale, but I’m going to have to try it now! And yesssss, I’ve been eyeing Sons of Anarchy, too. Thank you for the suggestions, and I’m going to have to start binging now!

      1. They are addictive! I just saw that The Lost Hero is on Kindle Unlimited, so I might try the trial and devour that one and the Ret Pyramid XD I like to read all the sagas back to back :3 it keeps it fresh and all!

      2. Ooooooh that’s a really good idea! And with those books, you can usually speed through them so quickly. But I like to do the same! I like to go through all of them at one time and not space them out since you miss so much with it.

  6. You read 17 books!! Wow! I read 9 and I felt so full of myself😂😂😂 I’m so glad you read all these Rick Riordan books! I hope we see more posts from you despite your new job. Congratulations!!
