Renegades is Here and Mandy is Not

Sooooooooooooooooooo, I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I’m pretty sure you have because it’s literally EVERYWHERE, but Renegades by Marissa Meyer has officially been released.

If you have somehow missed the name of Marissa Meyer, she is a verified YA queen. She has brought us the likes of The Lunar Chronicles – futuristic retellings of beloved fairytales including Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Snow White – and also the series that Mandy will literally never stop screaming about nor fangirling (it’s a lifestyle at this point and I can’t stop). If that isn’t your jam (um, I didn’t know it was until I read it and never went back), she wrote a complex, twisty, and absolutely delicious retelling of the notorious Queen of Hearts (keep snacks handy because it made me so hungry – and kind of apathetic to the notorious villain???). And thennnnnnnnnnnnnnn, she wrote an interesting take on Ursula in the anthology Because You Love to Hate Me – which was one of the few books that made that book somewhat tolerable (so much sass there, me).

So, basically, she is everything in my book life, and I was living for the day that I added another book to my Meyer collection. Seriously, I had a semi DM Twitter meltdown to Rendz from Reading With Rendz when my book didn’t arrive on time that then went over to Snapchat and me pacing by the front door quite a bit. The book struggle was so real, BUT THEN GUESS WHAT. THE BOOK ARRIVED AND IS IN MY HAND AND I SOMEHOW ORDERED THE WRONG TARGET EDITION SO I DIDN’T GET THE PRETTY RED COVER ONE BUT IT’S OKAY BECAUSE I HAVE MY BOOK AND I JUST NEED TO HAVE IT AT THIS POINT SO I CAN CRY.

Okay, I’m going to try and lay off the caps for a moment. But in all seriousness, I will be sliding in my little reading cocoon where I can literally go and hide and maybe peek out once this book has utterly destroyed my book soul???? So, I might be on here to blog hop and answer comments somewhat, butttttttttt all regularly scheduled programming might be suspended until I finished crying and screaming. We shall have to see. XD

Oh, and, um, here is the summary for Renegades just in case you have missed it.

renegadesSecret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice.

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone…except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

What do you think? Are you in the Renegades hideaway, too? What book has made you do this? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. If this isn’t a fangirling post I don’t know what is.. But I can’t agree more, haha!
I haven’t ordered my copy yet – book buying bans are freaking TORTURE – but I will eventually, darn it! I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that some bookish-loving angel will have pity on me and send it to me or something. That probably won’t help but.. Still. The hope!

YES. I just read this story this morning and I was all “FINALLY A GOOD ONE”.
Now I’m a bit more motivated to read the next short story, at least.. :’)

    1. Ahahahaha, YES. XD So very true. XD And oh gosh, bans are the worst. I wish you so much luck with them, since they are so tough. Lol maybe a giveaway will happen to appear to you and give into your book pleas?

And YESSSSSSSSSS. It really was the only thing that kept me going in that book. XD

      1. They are. Thanks, haha! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that but so far I haven’t had the best luck when it comes to giveaways, haha.

Maybe I should just claim myself the winner of my own giveaway and buy myself a book. There’s a thought! xD

        I FINISHED THAT THING YESTERDAY.
God, was I happy to throw it on my “read and never reading again”-shelf. :’D

  2. I am 100% with you, but also – where do you find details about the different editions? I couldn’t easily locate them, plus I was attempting to go see her out of state Tuesday so I haven’t bought it yet. (But I have a library copy, so I’m in deep.)

    1. I kind of found them by accident, Kyera. XD My friend found them on Twitter. Meyer had posted about the special Target edition, and I think my friend ordered the Barnes and Noble special edition and it mentioned some details about that? But oooooooh, how is the attempt going so far????? Because I think I would cry for you if you got to see her. XD

      1. Sadly I didn’t get to see her. I went out to Barnes and Noble, and Target today to see the special ones. The BN one has some hand written notes and drawings around the 14th chapter, but I didn’t read beyond that because I’m on chapter 5. Target has a Q&A and the actual book is red (instead of the blue) with a silver embossed image on the front. I’m tempted to buy that one.

      2. Yessssssssssssss. I’m far more partial to the Target one. The silver embossed it SO pretty. And I feel like the B and N one is cool for annotations but kind of odd for just one chapter? Are you leaning for one or another?

      3. Definitely Target. I was hoping it would magically be on cartwheel and I could get a better deal, maybe tomorrow when the sales change? But I’m torn between buying it and putting it on my Christmas list (which means I’d probably end up with a normal one).

      4. Psst Target’s Black Friday ad has leaked (as has Barnes and Noble, kind of though you don’t know the specific signed books yet). Soooooooooooooo it’s possible to check.

      5. OOOOOOOOOh. I didn’t know Barnes and Noble haddddddd. *still freaking out to see the signed books list tho* I saw Target say it was going to be 50% some books but I couldn’t figure out which ones.

      1. Yesssss! The costumes are so cool, and I’m loving all the superhero/villains that keep popping up. They are the coolest concepts and I’m dying to see what’s next.

      1. I’m about halfway through and to be honest…I’m not liking it as much as I thought I would! TO BE FAIR I’m not really a superhero person, but the characters aren’t really tugging at my heartstrings like the characters in the rest of her books. But there is still time for them to capture my heart!! Have you started it yet?

      2. Okay, you read my mind exactly??? I’m really not liking it as much as I thought either. I’m at like 350 pages or so in? I like Nova a lot, but I’m really not enamored with anyone else – but I agree that I’m not drawn to any of the characters like Cress or Thorne or anyone. Do you have one favorite?

      3. I feel like all of her other books are so much more concisely written but this one feels kind of like it needs another draft??? Everything feels a bit too obvious, like I’m never really guessing about anything, and I don’t think it needs to be as long as it is. I guess if I’m choosing a favorite character I’ll go with Adrian, though I don’t LOVE him…but I feel he’s more defined than the rest of the characters? Like, Ruby and Oscar feel like they need a bit more depth, as well as some of the Anarchists. It took a while for me to get them all straightened out because they all sort of blended together for a bit and didn’t all come off with defined and unique personalities to me. I do like Nova, but I also sort of feel like she’s an angrier and more serious version of Cinder?? I DON’T KNOW, I was expecting this book to me more innovative because of how unique she made the Lunar Chronicles!!

    1. Ahahaha I only knew there were two after I ordered mine of course. There is a Barnes and Noble edition that has some kind of interview/annotation of a chapter. And then the Target one which under cover is red and then has an imprint of the front cover in silver. IT IS SO PRETTY AND COOL AND AMAZING. And yesssssssssssssssssssss. I hope you will enjoy it toooooo! ❤

      1. It’s on my shelf pleading for me to take it down….but I’ve convinced myself to wait for December *cries* because I know then I will have all the time in the world to read it and I won’t have school nagging me in the back of my head!
So the temptation is real, but I’m trying to fight it! *cries*
I’m praying I don’t get spoiled, thats why I’m off of GR and pinterest and tumbr and I skim twitter
        *Help me I’m dying T.T

      2. Yes, patient is good, Rendz. Patience will allow Rendz to have all the fangirling moments in the perfect time. But dear gosh, I’m so sorry for the temptation and skimming and dying. I will tell you it is worth it so far.

    1. Ahahahaha ooooh, I’m super super interested to see what you think, Colleen! But I’m so with you! Free books are always the best. I always try out a lot of books first on there for that reason. XD
