Hocus Pocus Book Tag

When Halloween comes around, you get the costumes, the candy, and…the Halloween movies! My dad got me hooked on Hocus Pocus early as a child, and I would watch this repeatedly during the month of October…and, well, before and after it, too. I loved me some Sanderson Sisters creating drama and Max and his girl were kind of my ship before I knew there was such thing a ship? ANYWAY, when I was tagged by the wonderful Anatomy of a Book Thief, of course, I freaked out and knew I had to do this pronto. If you haven’t followed Anatomy of a Book Thief yet, please, please do! She has fantastic reviews, fantastic bookish content, and she’s really nice too! 😀 Check her out here, and let’s get to the witchy goodness!

P.S. It was created by Never Not Reading! You can check out the original post on the link there!

The Sanderson Sisters – A Great Trilogy

hocus pocus book tag.gif

Thank you, Copy and Paste, for allowing me to figure out how to include the gifs. This is the first for me and the blog, so of course, we shall have a moment of celebrations, because I kept thinking, wow, this tag was made so much better with them and my answers would be quite boring without them. XD ANYWAY, let’s just talk about my choice?

His Fair Assassin Trilogy by Robin LaFevers

grave-mercy

Okay, apparently I don’t read too many trilogies?? I looked through all of my favorites shelf, and apparently a lot of the series I love go with four books. TLC, The Big Empty series, etc. are all four books. And then you have the duologies or books that are going on for an undecided amount of time with the third book not being out yet. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS. However, His Fair Assassin holds one of my favorite books ever as part of it, and it showcases fierce females – just like the Sanderson Sisters.

Winifred Sanderson – A book with a truly evil female villain

winifred.gif

Levana from The Lunar Chronicles

fairest

Evil moon queen with magical powers…huh, I could see her and Winifred dueting on “I Put a Spell on You.” Love it.

Sarah Sanderson – A book that uncannily attracts children

Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

the lightning thief

I don’t even know what to do with this prompt, lol. Um, one of the first books that really caught my attention as a child and dragged me into the world of YA truly was Percy Jackson. And I noticed now that it got a lot of kids into reading as well, so we’ll go with that.

Mary Sanderson – A book that’s just plain silly

mary.gif

My Fair Godmother series by Janette Rallison

I couldn’t figure if they meant silly in bad or silly in a good way, so I went with silly in a good way and I picked the series that will always make me laugh. This series has me in stitches every time I pick it up, and I pick it up anytime I need a laugh or just to be happy. It has adorable ships, fantastic fairytale elements, and some major funnies. SO SO SO recommend.

Max – A book that is trying really hard to be cool, but doesn’t always succeed

There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins

I really loved the concept of this book – contemporary Perkins meets 80s slasher fic, but instead, to me, this book just seemed like it was trying way too hard. The items that were meant to be scary or suspenseful just fell so very, very flat and just ended up being funny?

Dani – A book that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is

dani.gif

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm, I don’t know? This prompt just confused me. I’m sure there is some epic book that makes a fierce, powerful statement but I got nothing?

Binx – A book series that just won’t die

binx.gif

I’m stealing Book Thief’s answers here, and going with the Shadowhunters series. Seriously, just more books keep popping out. I don’t mind it, but seriouslyyyyyyyyyyyy, so many. XD

Ice – A book with a character that’s dumb as a rock

ice.gif

Echo from Bad Girl Gone

Bad Girl Gone_cover image

Okay, the girl had some issues. Like, she wakes up in a strange place with a random person hiding under her bed and instead of demanding to find out what is going on or where she is, once someone tells no, go back to your room, she’s like, kk, I’ll go back and go to sleep or something? I don’t even know. She had some major struggles in just a very short amount of time.

The Black Flame Candle – A book or series you wish you could resurrect

the black flame candle

Dark House series by Laurie Faria Stolarz

welcome to the dark house

Okay, this series was creepy as shitttttttttttttt, but I loveddddddd it. I was so fascinated by it – and absolutely hated myself for it, but I don’t think I devoured anything so fast in a long time. I’m pretty sure that the series was killed off by lack of demand since I haven’t seen anything for it in a long, long time, but it ended in a pretty big cliffhanger, and I just want to know what is going to happen. *forever crying*

Headless Billy Butcherson – A book that’s not so bad as people make it out to be

The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich

I’m so in the minority of really enjoying this book. Yes, it had some major issues, but I really enjoyed it overall.

Winifred Sanderson’s Spell Book – A book with a mind of it’s own

Warcross by Marie Lu

I thought the book was going one way, but it ended up going a way other way much to my pleasant surprise.

Garry Marshall – A book with a cameo

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

I didn’t understand a single cameo, but hopefully when I get to binge reading the Grisha trio, I can finally understand it?

Tag…you’re it?

I saw quite a few people do it literally all in the same day, so I’m not quite sure who has done it and who hasn’t, so feel free to tag yourself if you’re feeling it or if you love Hocus Pocus like me!

What do you think? What are some of your answers to this? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. Aaahh perfect tag, Mandy! But… I’ve never actually watched Hocus Pocus 😶 I’M SORRY OKAY I JUST I DON’T KNOW. But I’ll do it very soon, possibly on Halloween day? Thanks for reminding me I needed to watch this classic!!
Anyway, I really enjoyed your answers and seeing some of your old favorites (and not so favorites) featured here.
And you definitely should have read Grisha prior to Crooked Kingdom as it’s a spin off of the first one. But no matter, you still have time! 🙂 And I really hope you love it as much as I did (also, have you read Language of Thorns yet? I heard it’s phenomenal!)
    Great post, hon ❤️❤️

    1. Ahahahahaha YES. Halloween Day will be perfection, and it will totally make up for all the years of lost time?
I was like, oh, I’ll be fine without having read the Grisha trilogy and then those Grisha peeps popped up and I’m like, I literally have no clue what’s happening but I’ll read it anyway. XD I’m going to get my butt back to it soon because I feel the need to be excited about Nikolai’s book series? And I have! It is stunning and the stories are quite well done (although I will admit I got a bit bored in a few – is it stuck on the TBR for you?)
      Thanks so much, Sophie! ❤

      1. Hahaha oh I see… I would have advised you against it, even before knowing there would be cameos. Besides, Grisha is so freaking cool!! You need to read it!!
Also, you’ll get to meet the famous Nikolai!! He’s awesome ❤ ❤
I did read three of the six short stories the book contains, as they were available before the release. So technically I've read half of Language of Thorns? xD Anyway, I'm looking forward to the other three! I really hope I don't get bored, though… The ones I read were fantastic *_*
        You're very welcome, Mandy 🙂

  2. OMG YES Warcross definitely has a mind of its own!!! I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading it but then it got SO GOOD and it was just a spectacular reading experience because I totally wouldn’t have guessed that it would go in that direction!

AND I’M CURRENTLY READING SIX OF CROWS AND THERE WERE ALREADY LIKE 3 CAMEOS (or well, characters from the Grisha trilogy were MENTIONED) AND I’M SQUEALING AND FANGIRLING AND CRYING BECAUSE THIS IS SO EXCITING 😭😭😭

    1. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I was like, how many twists and turns can this book have and then Lu just kept going. :O It was crazy. D:

And AHHHHH. I really need to reread it then after I read the Grisha trilogy because I missed all the good ones. How are you liking SOC so far, Jackie???

      1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I AM SO GLAD, JACKIE. I knew you were going to love it, but it gets worrisome with the overhyped books. 😀 SO SO GLAD. Crooked Kingdom is definitely an intense one. 😉

  3. I’m really glad you did the tag!! Honestly, I was exactly the same when it came to the trilogies, like I thought I read quite a lot but I could barely think of any!! 😂😂 I think Percy Jackson is definitely a book that attracts kids too!! 🙂

      1. Me too! There are so many series where I have only read the first book, sometimes because I didn’t enjoy it that much, but really often I don’t even realise a book is part of a series until way way after I’ve finished reading it! 😂😂

      2. Yes! I have a habit of going into a book lately thinking it’s a standalone all the time and then it’s like the beginning of a book that won’t have a sequel or next one in like a year and a half. XD That’s always the worst. XD

  4. I love this tag!!

My Fair Godmother was so cute. I’m a huge fan of books with fairy godmothers. I’m so glad you liked it because I don’t know anyone else who has read it before. I still need to read My unfair Godmother.

    1. OMIGOSH YOU HAVE READ IT? I felt like I was alone on a book island with having been the only one that has read it. I super, super recommend My Unfair Godmother – if possible, I kind of enjoyed it even more than the first one. 😀 So glad you mentioned so we can finally talk about it with each other. 😀 Chrissy kills me.

  5. I love Hocus Pocus! And this looks like such a fun tag!! I might just do this tag for Halloween!

I loved seeing your answers! Percy Jackson is one of my favorite books. I love that it attracts both children and older people because I read it while in high school!

    1. Yessssssssssss! I would love to see your answers, Angelica! 🙂 Definitely a fun one to do for it.

And thanks! ❤ And yes! It's one of those few books that manages to cross all the age ranges for enjoyment. 😀

  6. Gifs are on Mandy’s blog *cheers, celebrations, parades* I LOVE Hocus Pocus!! *I’m actually watching it tomorrow night!* I loved all your answers! I have Grave Mercy so hoping it lives up to that Sanderson sisters rep 😉 And OMG when you read Grisha tell me, because I need to reread the series. And then after we should read SoC again so you can catch all the cameos and we can relive all that pain. What fun! *cries*

    1. AHHHHHHHHH CAN I WATCH IT TOO? XD It’s another three sisters thing, so did you have it picked out who each sister was? But YES I HOPE SO TOO. And yes, I will, for sure! I was thinking about doing it in November, because I really want to do a binge read of the series…and I don’t have the second and third book so I’m kind of stuck on it for the moment. XD But that’s my exact plan! 😉

      1. LOL, we organized ourselves in birth order so I am Sarah Sanderson hehehe! And lol I don’t own any of the Grisha books, so I have to get around to buying those! I hope you enjoy them! ❤

    1. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh, I’m so intrigued to see what you think of it, Krysti. It has one of my favorite ships EVER, and there are so many fierce ladies in it. *forever hoping you will love it and can’t wait for November and Decemeber now* And Hocus Pocus really is the best! ❤

      1. Hahaha! My TBR for November/December is massive, and I love it! I have a few books I need to read, but most of them are all backlist books, so I’m super excited. Still not requesting on Netgalley/Edelweiss. How about you?!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Oooooooh that’s awesome, Krysti!! I’m sure you’ll be able to get quite a few more in with the holidays…or maybe not since the holidays are always chaos. XD But I’m so excited that most of them are on the backlist for you and we’ve still got the book chill. And I literally only have 2 more books on Netgalley (and they were books I just got for free), and then I’m officially caught up. But I feel like I have so many backlist books, I don’t know where to begin. XD How did you choose?
