The beginning of August seems like foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr ago. I can’t even say that the month went by fast because it seems like ages ago. Oops. Well, I think I had a pretty good month with reading 21 books despite the fact that I got stuck on one book for literally 18 days. Yet another August oops. Here’s what ended up reading this month!
Books
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
- The Dire King by William Ritter
- Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel
- The Big F by Maggie Martin
- The X Files: Agents of Chaos by Kami Garcia
- Not Now, Not Ever by Lily Anderson (review coming in mid September)
- Captain Guinevere by Clara Benet
- Yesternight by Cat Winters
- A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (DNF)
- The Shadows We Know by Heart by Jennifer Park (DNF)
- The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leah Rae Miller
- Final Girls by Riley Sager
- Winter by Marissa Meyer audiobook
- Summoner by S. D. Grimm
- A Gathering of Shadows by V. E. Schwab
Manga / Graphic Novels
- Dramacon vols 1 -3 (SUPER cute and fun)
- A Wise Man Sleeps Vol. 2 (ehhhhhhhhh)
- Stepping on Roses (ehhhhhhhhhhhh)
- Nimona (super, super fun but got a bit repetitive after a while)
So, best reads of the month? Definitely my reread of The Summer I Became a Nerd. However, I did have some real winners this month and books that I super enjoyed. Agents of Chaos is quickly on the fast-track to move itself up to the favorites shelf, and of course, Winter, The Dire King, and A Gathering of Shadows hold a special place in my heart because they are so wonderful. They’re like super top star four crowns which is super odd.
Black Bird of the Gallows and Not Now, Not Ever were some of my most anticipated books of the year, but they ended up being not quite what I wanted to be. They were good in parts, but I think they had a bit more potential. Reviews are coming for both of them soon, and I definitely think you should still be keeping an eye out for them.
Low points of the month? Probably my 2 DNFs that I really thought would be some of my top reads this month. We had a super cool Sherlock retelling and the other Bigfoot book, and I totally failed with both of them. Final Girls was another disappointment as well.
Also, wow, this was the month of four crowns. Lots and lots of four crowns. I think I’m in a four crown streak? XD
What did you read this month? Did we read any the same? What was your best or worst book this month? Let’s discuss in the comments below.
September Thoughts
I’m in this weird spot where I literally have no clue what I’m interested in nor what I want to dive into. I guess it will be true mood reading for most the month. So, my TBR will be…okay, it will literally be all the books that I’ve been approved for and what I’m currently reading now. So…we have a grand total of five books on my September TBR. Yay?
- A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab
- Poison’s Kiss by Breeana Shields (Buddy reading with the wonderful Rendz @ Reading with Rendz)
- A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck
- Breaking the Rules of Revenge by Samantha Bohrman
- Murder, Magic, and What We Wore by Kelly Jones
- Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo, I’m assuming. XD
I’m also thinking about starting possibly some of my fall books, so I’m hoping that I will have some great spooky, ghostie reads that will be coming super soon to this Book Princess Reviews. I CANNOT WAIT.
Wow. I really admire the number of books you could read in a month Mandy. How do you that? 😀
Amazing reads by the way! 😀

Ahahahahaha I think it’s a weird combo of being a fast reader, dnfing, having a good amount of time on my hands, and just determined to read a lot? XD
And thankies! There were some great ones. Have you read the Shades of Magic series?

You’re so lucky you have a good amount of time for reading. Ever since school started I only read 30 min. a day. It hurts! 😦
And I haven’t read that series yet. Though I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Is that only a 3 book series? I mean, is there anymore books in that series?

Oh no! 😦 Sorry, Jannin! That’s not fair at all. D:
And yes! 3 books, although they are doing a companion series later but it’s not going to revolve around these characters. It ends pretty cleanly.

I just hope I won’t go mad without reading a book in one day.
I might save up to buy that series. It’s actually already in my To-Buy-Books. 😄

Yes! Maybe one day they will allow you to have a tiny break and you can binge it all?
Oooooh yay! 😀 It’s a lot of fun and super well done, so I think you will totally enjoy. 😀

Oh that would be an awesome day! 😄
Thanks for the recommendation, Mandy!

I’m sorry to hear that Black Bird wasn’t what you were expecting! It’s one of my most anticipated books of this year, and I hope it doesn’t let me down when I can finally get a copy.

I hope so too! There were a lot of good things to it, but I just wanted a bit more from it. But I did enjoy it for the most part, so hopefully you will do the same. 😀

DUDE i am always so envious of people who manage to read so many books in a month! AND OMG A GATHERING OF SHADOWS JKEWFÖEWFIOJEWEÖ LOVE
Although if I DID read so many books I would probably have no more books to read because #poor hahaha

Ahahahaha the ending got me feeling like that too.
BUT YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. It was the perfect way to end the month! XD And lol, you make a good point. I think I might need to slow down a bit then. XD

I think I remember reading your review, but I can’t quite remember: what did you think of it? 😀

I liked it! It was cute for sure. It was very quick though, but I really liked the art style

Yes! The first few chapters were just hilarious. I loved how it made fun of the whole genre, but in such a good way. 😀

Does it count if I’m in the middle of Winter? Otherwise we read exactly zero of the same books this month. That is unacceptable. Haha.

Ahahahahaha that really is, Kyera. We’re so going to have to make up for it for next month. At least we’ll be both for sure reading WW?

I hope so! Sadly I have to wait until the book festival on the 23rd to pick it up. I need it…

Well, drats. v.v But will you be getting it signed at least if you do?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh yeah! I donated to the book festival kickstarter and they let you pick from a list of books that the authors had signed. I think I was the second person who donated so obviously that was the book I picked. I just pick it up when I’m there so it should already be signed for me and then I’m probably going to bring Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom for her to sign when I’m there. I’ve never gone to one of these before so I have no idea how it works.

Omigosh, that is epic!! :O How much fun!! And yes! That will be amazing! Super excited for you 😀 And oh dear. They seem amazing but so overwhelming. I wonder if there are any tutorials out there or anything? Is there just going to be signings or panels?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hahaha tutorials would be so helpful. There are 9 panels or something and I know you can get stuff signed but I have no idea if there are times, or what. They just posted the panel names and authors the other day, so there’s still not much info.

They really would be. XD They could write a book on it? Oh dear. o.o That seems very…spontaneous. Planned is nice. D:

OH My GOD! 21 books how I envy you, I was reading like that in the beginning of the year but now I’m stuck at 9 or 10 a month…life gets in the way and it sucks 😝…I’ve tried a couple of times to read some manga but can’t seem to get into it which is weird because I do enjoy Anime and most of the stories originate from manga and end there, what would you recommend for a newbie manga reader??
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh no! D: I’m sorry. D: Real life can kick reading life butt sometimes and that’s not fun. D: Hopefully you’ll be back to it soon! 😀 And huh. That is strange. I do find that I get really picky about the artwork and that to me can really take down a manga, I think. There are 3 that I’ve really enjoyed so far and might be good to start with: Happy Marriage?! (the one I actually started with), Sailor Moon, and Dramacon (which is more of a graphic novel style than more of a manga but still has the same effect).

Thanks for the Recommendations I’ll check them out…I did read Vampire Knight the manga because I wanted to see what happened after I watched the anime but that’s the only one I have finished…The other one that I started but haven’t finished is Orange…

Ooooh, I’ll have to try those two, then! I have yet to try those two out but heard so much about them.

I’m very curious to see what you guys think of “Poison’s Kiss.” I saw it when it came out but I haven’t heard anyone talk about it 🙂 I’m also hoping to get to Wonder Woman: Warbringer

It was…I’m still collecting my thoughts on it fully (I managed to finish it last night) but I don’t think I super enjoyed it? But you’re so right – I see nobody mentioning it whatsoever but I thought a lot of people were excited for it to come out. And yes! 😀 I’m super excited for that one. 😀

I’m glad you managed to read so many books despite having a bit of a slow month. I’m currently reading Winter and am loving it so far 😀😀

Ahhhhhhhhh I can’t wait to see your final thoughts on it. You’re doing a reread, right? It seems to get better every time you read it. 😀

No it’s my first time reading it I read Cinder about a year ago but didn’t haven’t picked up the rest of them until now, no idea why I waited so long as I’m really enjoying them 😀😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
OH. Omigosh, this is fantastic, then. 😀 Just be prepared because Winter brings on sooooooooooooo many feels. But lol, Cinder definitely was a good beginning book, but it’s not until you get Scarlet that it really grabs you and doesn’t let you go. XD

You are staying solid with that 15 per month pace. Even during a little bit of a slump, which is super impressive! Hopefully you’ll find exactly what you want to read in September. and just enjoy the ish out of it! Awesome reading month, lady!

(the manga for sure helped that 15 pace, thankfully! XD) But thank you! And hopefully they will just jump out right at me. Hopefully you too! 😉

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I’m so excited to see what you think about it, Rendz! I’m working my way up to it for some odd reason. I think I have too much high expectations on it and I’m afraid to ruin or exceed them all. XD Hopefully yours will go well! ❤
