August Wrap-Up / September TBR

The beginning of August seems like foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr ago. I can’t even say that the month went by fast because it seems like ages ago. Oops. Well, I think I had a pretty good month with reading 21 books despite the fact that I got stuck on one book for literally 18 days. Yet another August oops. Here’s what ended up reading this month!

Books

Manga / Graphic Novels

So, best reads of the month? Definitely my reread of The Summer I Became a Nerd. However, I did have some real winners this month and books that I super enjoyed. Agents of Chaos is quickly on the fast-track to move itself up to the favorites shelf, and of course, Winter, The Dire King, and A Gathering of Shadows hold a special place in my heart because they are so wonderful. They’re like super top star four crowns which is super odd.

Black Bird of the Gallows and Not Now, Not Ever were some of my most anticipated books of the year, but they ended up being not quite what I wanted to be. They were good in parts, but I think they had a bit more potential. Reviews are coming for both of them soon, and I definitely think you should still be keeping an eye out for them.

Low points of the month? Probably my 2 DNFs that I really thought would be some of my top reads this month. We had a super cool Sherlock retelling and the other Bigfoot book, and I totally failed with both of them. Final Girls was another disappointment as well.

Also, wow, this was the month of four crowns. Lots and lots of four crowns. I think I’m in a four crown streak? XD

What did you read this month? Did we read any the same? What was your best or worst book this month? Let’s discuss in the comments below.

September Thoughts

I’m in this weird spot where I literally have no clue what I’m interested in nor what I want to dive into. I guess it will be true mood reading for most the month. So, my TBR will be…okay, it will literally be all the books that I’ve been approved for and what I’m currently reading now. So…we have a grand total of five books on my September TBR. Yay?

I’m also thinking about starting possibly some of my fall books, so I’m hoping that I will have some great spooky, ghostie reads that will be coming super soon to this Book Princess Reviews. I CANNOT WAIT.

What is on your September TBR? What books are you excited to read this month? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. Wow. I really admire the number of books you could read in a month Mandy. How do you that? 😀

Amazing reads by the way! 😀

    1. Ahahahahaha I think it’s a weird combo of being a fast reader, dnfing, having a good amount of time on my hands, and just determined to read a lot? XD

And thankies! There were some great ones. Have you read the Shades of Magic series?

      1. You’re so lucky you have a good amount of time for reading. Ever since school started I only read 30 min. a day. It hurts! 😦

And I haven’t read that series yet. Though I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Is that only a 3 book series? I mean, is there anymore books in that series?

      2. Oh no! 😦 Sorry, Jannin! That’s not fair at all. D:

And yes! 3 books, although they are doing a companion series later but it’s not going to revolve around these characters. It ends pretty cleanly.

  2. I’m sorry to hear that Black Bird wasn’t what you were expecting! It’s one of my most anticipated books of this year, and I hope it doesn’t let me down when I can finally get a copy.

      1. Oh yeah! I donated to the book festival kickstarter and they let you pick from a list of books that the authors had signed. I think I was the second person who donated so obviously that was the book I picked. I just pick it up when I’m there so it should already be signed for me and then I’m probably going to bring Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom for her to sign when I’m there. I’ve never gone to one of these before so I have no idea how it works.

      2. Omigosh, that is epic!! :O How much fun!! And yes! That will be amazing! Super excited for you 😀 And oh dear. They seem amazing but so overwhelming. I wonder if there are any tutorials out there or anything? Is there just going to be signings or panels?

      3. Hahaha tutorials would be so helpful. There are 9 panels or something and I know you can get stuff signed but I have no idea if there are times, or what. They just posted the panel names and authors the other day, so there’s still not much info.

  4. OH My GOD! 21 books how I envy you, I was reading like that in the beginning of the year but now I’m stuck at 9 or 10 a month…life gets in the way and it sucks 😝…I’ve tried a couple of times to read some manga but can’t seem to get into it which is weird because I do enjoy Anime and most of the stories originate from manga and end there, what would you recommend for a newbie manga reader??

    1. Oh no! D: I’m sorry. D: Real life can kick reading life butt sometimes and that’s not fun. D: Hopefully you’ll be back to it soon! 😀 And huh. That is strange. I do find that I get really picky about the artwork and that to me can really take down a manga, I think. There are 3 that I’ve really enjoyed so far and might be good to start with: Happy Marriage?! (the one I actually started with), Sailor Moon, and Dramacon (which is more of a graphic novel style than more of a manga but still has the same effect).

      1. Thanks for the Recommendations I’ll check them out…I did read Vampire Knight the manga because I wanted to see what happened after I watched the anime but that’s the only one I have finished…The other one that I started but haven’t finished is Orange…

    1. It was…I’m still collecting my thoughts on it fully (I managed to finish it last night) but I don’t think I super enjoyed it? But you’re so right – I see nobody mentioning it whatsoever but I thought a lot of people were excited for it to come out. And yes! 😀 I’m super excited for that one. 😀

      1. No it’s my first time reading it I read Cinder about a year ago but didn’t haven’t picked up the rest of them until now, no idea why I waited so long as I’m really enjoying them 😀😀

      2. OH. Omigosh, this is fantastic, then. 😀 Just be prepared because Winter brings on sooooooooooooo many feels. But lol, Cinder definitely was a good beginning book, but it’s not until you get Scarlet that it really grabs you and doesn’t let you go. XD

  5. You are staying solid with that 15 per month pace. Even during a little bit of a slump, which is super impressive! Hopefully you’ll find exactly what you want to read in September. and just enjoy the ish out of it! Awesome reading month, lady!

    1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I’m so excited to see what you think about it, Rendz! I’m working my way up to it for some odd reason. I think I have too much high expectations on it and I’m afraid to ruin or exceed them all. XD Hopefully yours will go well! ❤
