ME. Back with another tag! I’m trying, gals and guys! And this one looked like so much fun and not super hard – which is the best kind of tag! ❤ Thank you so much to Sydney @ Fire and Rain Books for tagging me. If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, please do! She’s super nice, she has great bookish posts, and does fantastic reviews as well. And she loves princesses, too, so, so much yay! ❤

  • Tag the creator of this tag (Debbie @ Debbie’s Library) and the person who tagged you
  • Pick 5 songs (or more) that you just have to listen to whenever they are played
  • Pick the books or characters that you think fit that song the best, and explain why you picked those books or characters
  • Tag some friends!

“Evermore” by Dan Stevens

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

I feel like this is kind of cheating, but when I finished reading Hunted, I couldn’t help but think of this song over and over again. Hunted has a very old school fairytale vibe, and Evemore has such a similar feel to it for me. Plus, it’s talking a lot about changing and love and being “human” in a sense – which is exactly what Hunted’s moral message is about.

“The Draw” by Bastille

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

six-of-crows

This one is kind of torn between the lyrics and the vibe of the song. To me, it has this dark, pulsing beat that makes me think this could easily be the trailer song for the SOC movie (please let that be a thing in the future). I could see action scenes and tense scenes set to this and it just feels like a general moody song that would fit with the favorite gang. Plus, it talks about stuff pulling people back and I mean, there is definitely things pulling the Dregs back into dangerous stuff.

“The Currents” by Bastille

A Map for Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor

So, obviously the water reference. There are definitely a lot of water surrounding the island that these poor sisters are on. Definitely a lot of crazy currents as well that are super dangerous. There are a few lines, though, that totally talk about the sisters’ relationship in this song, too, that was epic. Talking about the “power of your words” (Henri’s words are definitely super powerful to Emma) and the mistakes they make (LOTS happening in this book. I was shocked that water references got it so right.

“I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

Okay, this is my favorite Disney song ever, and I go so hard for it. IT IS MY FOREVER JAM AND IT IS SO MUCH PERFECTION. And in this song, it is when Mulan is finally getting her groove together and showing that she can do what any man can do. Alosa is as fierce as any man, and with lady pirates, they’re always getting judged by their male counterparts for not being as much as them. I feel like Alosa would totally be kicking so much butt like Mulan, and appreciate this brilliant jam.

How Far I’ll Go from Moana

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

20393503_1794252447488034_8261371724159778816_n(1)

Basically, this is for the entire TLC series, but each of the characters and the main ladies go on a journey – mental, physical, and emotional journey. Cinder seems to have the toughest one – she goes from just a plain cyborg to, you know, crazy Lunar royalty, so I mean, it’s a pretty big one. She changes so much for it, and I feel like she has a Moana journey. She knows she has a role to play in politics, but it’s not exactly what her heart desires at first.

Tag…you’re it (if you so choose – if not, it’s all good!)

Rendz @ Reading With Rendz / Kyera @ Kyera’s Library / Sarah @ The Clever Reader / Zuky @ Book Bum / Traveling Across Pages / The Living Book Tree / Moira @ For The Lover of Books (who should be on a hiatus very shortly)

Also, please let me know if you’re interested in being tagged because I try not to tag the same people over and over and have a lot of fun tags coming up. 😉

What do you think? What songs do you think pair well with your favorite YA book? Would have you choose other songs for these books or other books for these songs? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. OMG I love this tag soooo much! All your music/book pairings were absolutely on point, Mandy! And I happen to love all your song choices so… Yeah, and I can NEVER skip them either.
Mulan song and Alosa are a perfect fit ❤ ❤ And I have to agree on Moana's song and TLC too, even though I hadn't really thought about it before. You have that gift, Mandy XD

And yes! I just kept thinking, I need a good journey book and I feel like I could see Cinder from book 1 to book 4 changing just like Moana.

    1. YES! It was SO much fun. Can’t wait to see your answers! 🙂 And yes! I wasn’t a fan of it so far, but I will admit that it grew on me a bit the more my friend forced me to listen to it and now I love it. XD

    1. Thanks so much, Krysti! 🙂 Ahahaha, I just always think DOTPK is fierce and Mulan-like, so this song always goes through my head on repeat when I read or think about it. XD What’s said is Pirates of the Caribbean should probably be on instead?

    1. Yes! It took a lot more thinking than I originally planned, but it was a lot of fun. And omigosh, yes. Mulan rocked it with their songs. I literally can’t say let’s get down to the business anymore without breaking out into song. (So not a fan of let it go as well). But thanks so much, Angelica!!
