Books and Music Tag

ME. Back with another tag! I’m trying, gals and guys! “Evermore” by Dan Stevens

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

I feel like this is kind of cheating, but when I finished reading Hunted, I couldn’t help but think of this song over and over again. Hunted has a very old school fairytale vibe, and Evemore has such a similar feel to it for me. Plus, it’s talking a lot about changing and love and being “human” in a sense – which is exactly what Hunted’s moral message is about.

“The Draw” by Bastille

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This one is kind of torn between the lyrics and the vibe of the song. To me, it has this dark, pulsing beat that makes me think this could easily be the trailer song for the SOC movie (please let that be a thing in the future). I could see action scenes and tense scenes set to this and it just feels like a general moody song that would fit with the favorite gang. Plus, it talks about stuff pulling people back and I mean, there is definitely things pulling the Dregs back into dangerous stuff.

“The Currents” by Bastille

A Map for Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor

So, obviously the water reference. There are definitely a lot of water surrounding the island that these poor sisters are on. Definitely a lot of crazy currents as well that are super dangerous. There are a few lines, though, that totally talk about the sisters’ relationship in this song, too, that was epic. Talking about the “power of your words” (Henri’s words are definitely super powerful to Emma) and the mistakes they make (LOTS happening in this book. I was shocked that water references got it so right.

“I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

Okay, this is my favorite Disney song ever, and I go so hard for it. IT IS MY FOREVER JAM AND IT IS SO MUCH PERFECTION. And in this song, it is when Mulan is finally getting her groove together and showing that she can do what any man can do. Alosa is as fierce as any man, and with lady pirates, they’re always getting judged by their male counterparts for not being as much as them. I feel like Alosa would totally be kicking so much butt like Mulan, and appreciate this brilliant jam.

How Far I’ll Go from Moana

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Basically, this is for the entire TLC series, but each of the characters and the main ladies go on a journey – mental, physical, and emotional journey. Cinder seems to have the toughest one – she goes from just a plain cyborg to, you know, crazy Lunar royalty, so I mean, it’s a pretty big one. She changes so much for it, and I feel like she has a Moana journey. She knows she has a role to play in politics, but it’s not exactly what her heart desires at first.
