The Music Genre Book Tag: Volume 2

Okay, I’m ridiculously behind on all of my tags, and it’s so sad. I’ve been trying to get to more of the original ones that I was tagged for my some of the amazing blogs I follow first, but I still have some major struggles. This tag was created by the wonderful Moira over at For the Lover of Books. She has such fantastic reviews (literally I agree with almost all of them/will know if I will like or not like a book); she’s super nice, and she has a lot of cool bookish content. Check out more of her blog here!

Onto her brilliant new tag!

Celtic punk: Favourite Obscure Book/ A Book with a Non-Western Setting

The Big Empty series by J. B. Stephens is one of my favorite series ever, and literally no one has ever heard of them. They’re so random and kind of weird, but I’m still obsessed with them. XD And I mean, they literally have the shadiest covers. LOOK AT THAT SKETCHINESS> So much love, though.

Classical: Favourite Classic/ Book that Should Become a Classic

image

Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios – it has a lot of triggers and deals with a lot of intense things, but I think it is a story that would benefit a lot of young people, learning about domestic violence. For my favorite classic, though, it would totally be The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.

Soul/ RnB: A Powerful Book

image

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour totally gutted me. It was a book that played with my emotions, and it was a book that totally lingered with me even days after I had finished. I would constantly think about reading it, and I don’t think I’ve read a book like that in a while.

Cover Songs (Original) : Favourite Retelling

I thought about this one long and hard, ladies and gentlemen. Real hard. XD

Soundtrack: Favourite Book to Movie Adaptation/ Adapted Book

Ummmmmm…I really don’t have one. Most of the time, I think the adaptions are just okay? I really don’t watch too many of them. I think I would probably have to say The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancy because I wasn’t super crazy about it originally but the movie wanted me to give it another try.

Rock and Roll: An Action Packed Book

Does the action ever really stop in these? Every moment, something brand new is going wrong. XD Also, loving the black and white thing I had accidentally going on here.

Pop: A Book with a Pretty Cover that You Lost Interest In

19985490_343066262778005_7844098853736284160_n

I love this cover so much – it’s so much prettier than my Bookstagram picture can show – but I really had some big issues with the character’s decisions in it, which led me to skim a lot of the book. But I do love that cover and there were a few cute moments.

Reggae: Favourite Seasonal Book

I don’t really do book seasons. Like, spring doesn’t equal a certain type of book or winter or such. However, with summer, I always end up doing tons of manga and contemporary books. I’m not quite sure why. So, I shall go with a contemporary book choice:

Country: A Historical Fiction Book That Wasn’t For You/ You Loved

odd & true

I haven’t been reading historical fiction books lately, which is a shame because I really do love them. I especially love the time period of the early 1900s to 1950s. It’s just such an unique time period. However, I did read one recently, Odd & True by Cat Winters, which I wasn’t a fan of sadly.

Tag…you’re it!

Harini @ Books And Readers / Rendz @ Reading With Rendz / Zuky @ Book Bum / Kyera @ Kyera’s Library / Sarah @ The Clever Reader / James @ This Is My Truth Now / Ash @ The Infinite Library / Sydney @ Fire and Rain Books / JessicaMarie493

I’m going to be doing a try and do quite a bit more tags in the next two weeks, and I don’t want to overtag anyone. So, if I haven’t tagged you, please feel free to do it because it’s a fun little one, and Moira’s awesome. And I’ll probably be tagging you in the future. XD

  1. Thanks for the tag! I like this one, I haven’t seen it before, or the Volume 1 version of it haha. I don’t think I’ve ever read a retelling so god knows what I can come up with for that one! Lol

    1. Absolutely! I haven’t done one in forever to tag you on. XD And no, I never knew about volume 1 either. XD But lol I wish you luck! Maybe there were some thrillers out there that were inspired by something? Based on a true story which could kind of be like a retelling? XD I’m trying to think of a good one. XD

  2. Thank you for the tag! Haven’t seen this one yet and looks like there’ll be some tricky ones in here. Definitely in agreement about the action packed selection – those books are full on. I’m excited to read Bad Romance and Cress! 😊

    1. Absolutely! ❤ And yes – there were a few that definitely gave me some pause. But yessssss. I never expected that from a book made out of all transcripts and such, but it was so good. and yes! I definitely think you will enjoy both. 🙂

  3. This is such a great way to learn about new books and associate them with something. I have 3 more to add to my TBR. Thanks so much for including me on this tag. I’ll work on it throughout the week. Requires some thought!!! -jay

  4. Thanks for the tag , Mandy ! But the questions sound so hard …how can I ever pick a favourite reading ? 🙂 . The cover of Odd and True looks damn pretty so it’s sad it didn’t work for you ❤ But omg , why is everyone all about when dimple met rishi ? Is it really amazing ?

    1. Ahahaha sorry to give you a hard one XD But IK. It’s so hard. Maybe do a top five? 😉 But IK. It sounded sooooooo good, but it was the pacing that dragged it down for me. But you know, I know a ton of people really loved it and thought it was super adorable. I thought it was pretty cute, but its pacing really slowed it down for me. I wasn’t a super fan of it. 🙂

      1. I’m not going to read it then . If I know me , I’d DNF any book with bad pacing because that just wouldn’t draw me in . On top of that , there’s the TBR crisis :/ . I’m somewhere at 800 already 😟

      2. Yes! I think that would be a good plan, because it took me a really long time to read it because I would set it down and not want to pick it back up. And oh no! That’s really not good but also great because so many wonderful books!! But also not good. XD

  5. Thank you for doing this! I appreciate you thinking long and hard about your favourite retelling 😂 (I hope this conveys laughter. Can you tell I don’t know how to use emojis?).

    1. Absolutely! So sorry that it took an obnoxiously long time. XD But yes. XD I really tried. And lol, no, you did it perfectly! ❤ It took me forever to figure out there was two crying emojis and that one was for actual sadness and one for laughing. XD
