This week I will be fangirling about…

The White Queen TV Series

The series is set against the backdrop of the Wars of the Roses and presents the story of the women involved in the protracted conflict for the throne of England. It starts in 1464; the nation has been at war for nine years fighting over who is the rightful King of England, as two sides of the same family, the House of York and the House of Lancaster, are in violent conflict over the throne. The story focuses on three women in their quest for power, as they manipulate events behind the scenes of history: Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort, and Anne Neville. Elizabeth Woodville is the central character in the novel The White Queen, while Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville are the focus of the novels The Red Queen and The Kingmaker’s Daughter, respectively. However, all three characters appear in all three novels that went to make up the television series. (Taken from Wikipedia)

A few years back, my mom became obsessed with Philippa Gregory’s books. She devoured all of her two series in no time – which promptly made me want to devour them as well (especially since I’ve always had a soft spot for the Tudor time period). I love all the complexities of the court intrigue and how crafty and twisty they were back then.

So, when this show came out, I was super intrigued by it. But I missed it the first time around when it came out, but for Christmas this year, my parents bought me the first season. We’ve obviously been putting it off for a while, but we started the series earlier this week, and omigosh – wow.

This series is sooooooooooo good. It’s twisty, crazy, fun, twisty, intriguing, informative, TWISTY. There is so many twists that I intently watch everything so I can pick up things. There’s magic, there’s love and ships, there’s ridiculously attractive guys (hello Richard and his emo hair), there’s just a lot of super interesting things.

IT ACTUALLY MADE ME PUT DOWN A BOOK. A BOOK. I STOPPED READING SAILOR MOON TO WATCH THIS SHOW. Can we just take a moment for that? XD

I know it’s probably not the most historically accurate (or really anything historically accurate), but it’s just good TV. It showcases fierce ladies – ladies that will fight with everything they have to get what they want in a time when women weren’t treated the best – and good drama. It’s just brilliant, and I want it to end to know what will happen – but also I never want to end?

I’m currently trying to stop myself from wandering over the bookcases and following down the Gregory spiral book hole. Welp. IT ALL SOUNDS SO GOOD. I have so many other books to readdddddddd, though.
