The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
When I went over to Alex’s post today, I saw her idea of using a classic and then comparing it with a YA book. I thought that was genius, and it totally inspired my idea today. I love me some Oscar Wilde. I went into this play, not knowing anything about him or it, and it quickly found a way onto my favorites shelf. It’s basically mocking the elite Victorian society that Wilde was living in, poking fun at tropes, romance, and more. It is hilarious, and if you have never read it, please do because it’s the only classic that I hold dearly to my heart and literally want everyone to read. If you like comedy and wit, this is the book for you. Plus, it has the most epic argument about muffins ever. Check it out here.

It’s Not Me, It’s You by Stephanie Kate Strohm
This book was adorableeeeeeeeeeee. And so much fun. It’s basically formatted like a play/transcript, and it reads so much like Wilde’s wit and humor. It’s about a girl who is going through all of her ex boyfriends and trying to figure out what went wrong – and why she had to befall the worst fate of all: being dumped before prom. You see the change in characters, the poking fun of major tropes, making fun of romance, and adorable swoons – all of what you get in The Importance of Being Earnest. Although, maybe not so much about the swoons. This book was brilliant, and I can’t wait to share my final review with you soon! Check it out here!
I love Earnest so much! Will have to look into It’s Not Me, It’s You.

You make a wonderful case for both of these… I’ve heard of the importance of being earnest but never thought to look at what it was about! Now I’ll have to look into both…

Yes, Dani, both of them are great! I’m not a big fan of the classics at all, but Wilde definitely makes it super interesting. 😀 Hope you enjoy if you decide to read!

It’s on my list, but have I gotten my butt on it yet? Nada. But I will definitely have to since I remember you said it plays a lot with them.

I haven’t read either, but you totally sold me on the YA. (Not that Oscar Wilde isn’t amazing, I’m just not in the classic headspace at the moment.) Adding to my TBR!
