Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

I AM DOING A TAG. IT HAS BEEN FOREVER SINCE I HAVE DONE A TAG, BUT I AM DOING ONE. This week has majorly kicked my butt, and I’m pretty sure I spent most of it curled in a corner somewhere. But now I’m a bit hopped up on a energy drink, so let’s see what I can accomplish.

Also, there wasn’t a Princesses Read post yesterday because of the whole exhaustion thing. I was going to try and do one today, but then I wasn’t sure. SO, what I could do is just skip this week entirely and have one back again on Saturday again, or I could do it later in the week. Anyone have a preference?

Anyway, let’s move onto the tag. I want to thank insidemylibrarymind for tagging me for this tag. This tag has been everywhere lately, and it’s so much fun. I can’t believe it’s been half the year already and this year has been amazing for books for me. If you haven’t already, take a stroll through insidemylibrarymind’s blog because it’s full of bookish fun, fantastic reviews, and so much more! 😉

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

ONE? YOU WANT ME TO PICK ONE? Well, I can’t, so I’ll just add in the few that I have added to my favorites shelf this year. 😉

2. Best Sequel of 2017 so far?

I couldn’t figure out if it was best sequel that I read this year or best sequel that was released this year. I figured I would showcase both. These Ruthless Deeds was the best one that was released this year. Gemina was one of the best that I read this year.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want to?

i-believe-in-a-thing-called-love

Either I Believe In a Thing Called Love or Eliza and Her Monsters. I can’t wait to get to these later in the month. They look adorable and feely.

4. Most Anticipated Release of the Second Half of 2017?

there's someone inside your house.JPG

There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. I literally cannot wait to see what slasher fiction plus swoony Perkins writing is going to be like. I mean, how will it not be epic? I WANT IT SO BADLY. GIMME GIMME GIMME. And I mean, Renegades by Marissa Meyer. Obviously.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

the truth about happily ever after

The Truth About Happily Ever After by Karole Cozzo. This was, like, in the top 3 of my most anticipated books this year, and it ended up being horrible due to the lack of a trigger warning, flimsy characterization, and just absurdity. I’m still so upset about this.

6. Biggest Surprise?

17596029_282710668833456_4901434605388693504_n

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. After a really not so good time with A Court of Thorns and Roses, I didn’t have much hope for the second book. But it had this insane turnaround and ended up being a favorite. So, definitely the biggest surprise I had this year.

7. Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You) ?

Debut = Karen McManus since I adore One of Us Is Lying. New to Me = V. E. Schwab. I have now seen the light and am totally in love with her work.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

*cough, Rhysand, cough, cough*

9. Newest Favorite Character?

LILA BARD from A Darker Shade of Magic. That girl is epic. o.o So much epicness. :O

10. Book That Made You Cry?

17437770_1294353823993167_3461932344259117056_n

Books still don’t make cry, but one book made me tear up a bit. Seriously, I need to get my tear ducts checked. XD The book was Geekerella by Ashley Polston!

11. Book That Made You Happy?

18723792_1958907327673935_8788479801833816064_n(1)

Sasquatch, Love, and Other Imaginary Things. Um, it’s an adorable book about Sasquatch. I literally smiled the entire time I read it. And I mean, it’s about Bigfoot.

12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year?

I haven’t seen any that have been released this year…or literally any except for one. I watched the adaption of The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, and it was pretty good.

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

Um, um, I’m not quite sure. I enjoyed writing Daughter of the Pirate King and also Scarlet. Those are literally the only ones that I can remember really enjoying.

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?

a-thousand-nights

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnson. Um, the under the dust jacket is AMAZING. I mean, it’s covered with a starry night, and I can’t handle that. It’s just so beautiful. Here’s hoping that it will actually be good. *fingers crossed* (And that’s the coverrrrrrrr – ugh, it’s so beautiful that the moment I found out about it, I had to buy).

15. What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

TRUTHWITCH. I need to read it because I super wanted to and then I literally keep forgetting I own it. Also, An Ember in the Ashes (um, same thing as Truthwitch). And Teardrop by Lauren Kate. It’s been on my TBR for like five years now.

Oh, and, um, Wild Irish Women. o.o I should probably, uh, finish that.

Tag…you’re it!

I know a million people have done this, so I’m going to try and make sure that I’m grabbing people that haven’t do it yet or people I thought haven’t do it – sorry if you have and also, sorry if I didn’t tag you because I was probably convinced you had done it. 😉

    1. Thanks so much! It was definitely really good – I honestly wasn’t expecting too much out of it, but it really ended up being great. And I will admit with A Thousand Nights – I totally judged/bought the book by its cover. And oooh, okay, I’m excited. I’ll definitely have to tackle it in July then. 😀 And absolutely! ❤

  2. Thank you so much for tagging me, Mandy!! 😍💘 AHH RHYS 😭💘 And I heard that Stephanie Perkins’ new release is going to be a horror book?? I honestly CANNOT imagine the Anna and the French Kiss series author is releasing a horror book. Not sure if I’ll be reading it but I’m so excited to see the reviews, it’s going to be so much fun 😂

    1. Absolutely! ❤ I was like, eh, I do have ACOMAF in a couple other spots, maybe I shouldn't post it again, but then I was like, it's Rhysand, of course, I have to put him in there. But ik! It's the weirdest combo ever. Perkins said she's going to keep the adorable elements we loved from Anna and the French Kiss, too, so I'm really intrigued. Like, super swoony scenes and then someone is murdered? o.O But definitely! 😀

    1. YESSSSSSSSSSSS. The moment I saw it, I’m like, I literally need to do it super quick because it’s so much fun. But lol, I’m sure I will think of the same thing when I’m reading yours. BUT YESSSSS. I feel like such a bad fantasy lover for not having read it. XD Maz had read it then and enjoyed? But YESSSSSS again. I’m like, I need to fangirl with Rendz asap about it. 1. Ahahahaha, oh no. But now I’m super excited if Maz enjoyed. 😀 It’s happening in July…well, I think. Maybe. But yessssssss. I read like the first chapter and then I’m like, oh, this is good, but then I really don’t remember what happened after that. Like, why I randomly stopped, but all I know is that it must happen because you love it dearly.

  6. Love your answers! 😀 I’m so glad ACOMAF was a pleasant surprise for you! It was such an improvement over the first book and has easily become one of my favorite YAs of all time. And thank god for Rhysan, right? Ain’t he just a dream? LOL. Gemina was a fantastic sequel. I have a hard time choosing if I liked the first or second book better! And V.E. Schwab is fantastic! I loved the Darker Shades of Magic trilogy. I’m so happy you liked the first book, too! And Lila’s a wonderful character! She’s such a badass, especially in the later installments. Thanks so much for tagging me! I can’t WAIT to do this one 😀

      1. ACOWAR was much better than the first, although I’m not convinced it was better than the second. Idy love to see what you think of it. And she most certainly does! It’s fantastic 😀

      2. Yes, definitely!I had struggles with ACOWAR, but I definitely think that Inner Circle made it so much better. I don’t think anything could beat the second, but I’m intrigued to see what happens with the companion novels.
        And yesssss.

      1. I thought it was interesting. I didn’t see it coming at all (but in a good way), but I also didn’t see the signs as much as I would have liked? I thought it fit decently, but I don’t think it was as well as it could have been. You?
