#ARCSTRAVAGANZA: Bad Romance

3 posts in one day…this Book Princess needs to exercise some book chill. But I had two amazing memes to take part in and an amazing book to review, so I had to visit you all for a third time today.

#ARCstravaganza is hosted by the wonderful ladies of YA and Wine – Krysti and Sarah – where each week, we showcase one of the best perks of being a book blogger – those glorious ARCs – on our blogs, Instagrams, or both! And when you participate? You’ll be entered to win a YA ARC each month! How cool is that? Find out more about it here!

I present this week’s feature ARC without further ado…

Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios

Grace wants out. Out of her house, where her stepfather wields fear like a weapon and her mother makes her scrub imaginary dirt off the floors. Out of her California town, too small to contain her big city dreams. Out of her life, and into the role of Parisian artist, New York director—anything but scared and alone.

Enter Gavin: charming, talented, adored. Controlling. Dangerous. When Grace and Gavin fall in love, Grace is sure it’s too good to be true. She has no idea their relationship will become a prison she’s unable to escape.

Deeply affecting and unflinchingly honest, this is a story about spiraling into darkness—and emerging into the light again.

This book does have a lot of triggers – it is about an unhealthy relationship, and it does contain topics such as abuse, mental illness, suicide, and rape.

I was kind of torn on which ARC I should feature this week. I just started The Disappearances, and I adore that cover, but I wasn’t sure I could do the cover justice this week with my Instagramming skills. XD But then I remembered I just finished Bad Romance, and I really just want to talk about this forever, so my mind was instantly made up.

To tell the truth, I was interested in this book, but I wasn’t highly anticipating it. I wasn’t like, OMG OMG OMG but I saw it on Netgalley, I thought I would give it a shot. AND I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID. It was amazinggggggggggg. My review probably won’t be until sometime next week or later this week, but I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

I probably wouldn’t have picked this up had it not been for book blogging and seeing it so much on here, and that is one of the beauties of being part of this community – you discover books that made you feel the most you ever have in a book when you never would have before. Gals and guys, you’re definitely going to be needing to pick up this book.

What arcs are you excited about this week? Are you excited about this book? Have you read a book that totally made you feel things beyond what you could for a book? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing more reviews of this one. I’m intrigued by the bad relationship aspect, as that’s something I’ve dealt with in my life, but also worried about it for the same reasons. Either way, I think it’s amazing that unhealthy relationships are getting more representation and hopefully spreading education and discussion – because they’re more common than most people think.

    1. Definitely. It could definitely go either way. And I can definitely understand about the worry. But I do agree that the representation is so needed – this was the first book that I read that had dealt with it as the main focus of the book and didn’t glaze over the in-depth, uncomfortable parts. And as you said, discussion is so needed especially in this age group.

    1. Most of the abuse isn’t physical but instead mental and verbal, and for me, it did get hard because I totally got really angry about it. It definitely made me feel far more than I expected, so there is that. It does get tough. And just checked out your post! 🙂

  2. Love that cover so much!! (I wish I could use my emoji’s on the PC) This book sounds really interesting and dark which I like sometimes. I also have The Disappearances so I can imagine it’d be a hard choice to make. I’m glad you featured this one because it’s not one that I’ve seen much of. I’ll have to add it to my TBR! 🙂

    1. YES, SARAH. THE STRUGGLE IS SO REAL ON THE PC. But yes! It is definitely dark, but superrrr interesting. By the end, I was just blown away. But yes! Both have GORGEOUS covers, so it was a toughie. But I think that was my thought as well – I hadn’t seen much of this lately. Definitely will be interested to see your thoughts, Sarah!

      2. Lol, it really is sad that we spend so much time as children learning don’t judge a book by its cover, but then we become book bloggers and it’s like, OMG, cover. I’m totally influenced by a good cover now. But yes! Is your TBR about to topple over soon?

      3. Haha!! Exactly!! Yes! It’s been threatening to bury me for years but I keep on enduring! I actually have books all over the place it’s ridiculous!

      4. Ahahahaha. YES. I finally had to put all my books in storage bins, but I still keep gaining little piles of them. XD It’s really sad. But yes! It’s kind of the best kind of pain? XD Are they in nice little piles? XD

      5. They are in nice little piles that are now congregating on my kitchen counter! I need to build a bookshelf for them & hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later!

  3. Such a gorgeous cover!!! I am SUPER excited to see an #ARCstravaganza post from our local Book Princess! I’ve heard about the this book having a lot of triggers but also heard that it’s really good. I definitely want to read it, but it does sound like one that you should make sure you’re in the right kind of mental space to read it. That cover is simply GORGEOUS!

    1. It is! I love those flowers on it. But of course! I had to sneak one in. XD It does have quite a bit, and I totally agree that you definitely need to be in a good place. It was a very interesting and fascinating book – but really, do have to be a good place. But you’re so right – that cover is amazinggggg.

  4. I hadn’t looked into this book until now though I had seen the cover in passing. I’m putting in a request at NetGalley now though, it sounds intense! Speaking of ARCs though I need to get back to my pile, of the ones As for the ARC that I have releasing soon is The Waking Land by Callie Bates. 🙂

  5. Can’t wait to read your review for this arc. It definitely intrigued me. I can’t request it on NetGalley even if I want to since I don’t live in the US. 😦 Anyways, I’m going to check out this novel once it is released!

      1. It’s okay. I can always pick it up after it is released. For now, I will add it to my TBR list and keep an eye out for it. You are making me wanting to pick the book up right away even though I’m unable to. 😦

      2. Yeah! 😀 It sucks to live outside of US. 😦 There are countless times where I read reviews or heard amazing things about books but I can’t get my hand on it. Till now, I can’t buy ‘A Darker Shade of Magic’ by V.E. Schwab in my local bookstores just because they don’t import the hardcover versions. The only way for me to get a copy is to order it online via Book Depository.

      3. Yeah. It really sucks sometimes. But, at least there is book depository. The books there are always cheaper than the books in my local bookstore. Plus there is free shipping! It is definitely a win-win situation for me. When I travel to US in the future, I will visit Strand in NYC and just buy tons of books home. 😂

      4. Yeah! A big one. I have a feeling that I will just wipe the shelves clean if I were to ever enter Strand. And not forgetting fangirling like crazy. 😂😂
