If & Then Thursdays: Magical Victorian London

if and then

The meme streak continues! Are we pumped? Kind of? Not really? But this one is such a cool one!

Have you heard about If & Then Thursdays yet? It’s this really cool concept put on by Alex over @ Young At Heart Books. If you haven’t saw it yet, it’s super fun and even easy enough to follow for this Book Princess. Here’s a little more about it:

If&Then Thursdays is a book meme created by Alex@ Young at Heart Books. How do you participate? It’s easy! All you have to do is choose two books that are somewhat related in theme, writing style, genre, etc. Tell us how they are similar and why we would like them! All recommendations should be made in this format:

“If you like Book A, then you might enjoy Book B”

Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves

Blood Rose Rebellion had such an intriguing premise – Victorian-like society where magical people are the elite and magic rules. This story had a lot of intriguing and beautiful folklore as well, but magic dominates the story and what happens with the characters. The system of magic is compelling and intriguing. And yes, it does have a few love interests 😉 I did have a few issues with it, but it was still interesting. Check out my review here!

These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas

Okay, I loved this book. I love this series. It is set in Victorian London – and not alternate London like BRR. It still includes a compelling and intriguing magic system. There are secret magic societies, epic magical powers, and yes, a few love interests. It is pitched as Jane Austen meets X Men. This has a lot more humor than BRR, but BRR does have the amazing folklore while this does not. It does not get as creepy as BRR as well. However, the feeling of the story, the cool magic Victorian setting, the multiple love interests, and complex magic systems will still provide a lot fo the same feels that you might feel. Check out my review here!

What do you think? Have you read either of these? What did you think of them? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

    1. There really isn’t, Matxi. XD It will always get me to pick up a book. XD
AND IT IS. I totally wasn’t convinced it would be amazing, but literally, I was so impressed by it. And the humor and wit in it was so amazing as well.

      1. Yes! Magical Victorian London really attracts us!!❤❤ The Infernal devices being one and now a darker shade of magic (and hopefully Blood Rose Rebellion and The Vicious Masks later on 🤞🏻) 😆😆

      2. Well to be fair it must be set in the future but it just has that Victorian feel to it! Well at least you get four Londons 😉😉 It doesn’t really specify (unless we missed it😅 – its still a great book and we definitely plan to continue this *magical* series ✨✨)

      3. Ahhhhhhhh gotcha. That makes sense. My friend is reading it right now, and I feel like she did say that it did have a pretty London-y vibe to it. But yay! I’m so going to have to read it now then. 😀 😀 And very nice pun 😉

      1. Ooooooooh. I have not. It’s one of those series that I always mean to read, but always forget to because I feel like I already know everything? XD My friend has told me a ton about it over the past few years. But I don’t remember hearing about a broody Sebastian, so there might be more. o.o
