Burn, Rewrite, Reread Book Tag

I would like to thank the wonderful Ava @ Reads, Rhythms, and Ruminations for tagging me for this. 1st, I learned there was a random option on Goodreads. Second, it’s a lot of fun. Make sure to check out Ava’s epic blog because it’s full of fun anime knowledge, bookish excellence, and more fun! Check it out here!

The Rules

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).

ROUND 1

Burn: Bookishly Ever After by Isabel Bandiera I had soooooo many issues with this book. It made me very angsty. Definitely would imaginary burn since I would never actually burn.

Rewrite: How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer. I loveddddd this book, but it definitely needed a bit more focus on the theme park and a few other minor issues that almost made this not a favorite for me. But it’s still epiccccc.

Reread: A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi. This book was sooooo beautiful. I loved every part of it – the characters, the world, the writing, the plot. I wouldn’t rewrite any of it.

ROUND 2

Burn: The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding. This book was so meh that I can’t even remember why I DNF’d. I figured it would be okay to imaginary burn this one. Into the book cauldron, you go…if only I could remember.

Rewrite: Kingdom of Ash and Briars by Hannah West. This book had sooooo much potential and the premise of Mulan and Sleeping Beauty together sounded simply magical. However, I never felt any connection and it just fell sooooo flat. I would definitely do some rewriting to expand on the epic premise.

Reread: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. This story was cute, fun, and even though it took forever for me to get on the hype train with this one, it was so worth it. Definitely a reread is in order at some point.

ROUND 3

Burn: Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins. I actually really liked this book and enjoyed it. It was funny, and I loved the main character. It does involve witches, so maybe they will enjoy the burning?

Rewrite: The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord. Again, I loved this book, and it was so fluffy and adorable. But at parts, it did get a little slow and I definitely need to have a crack at that ending. I would totally rewrite that.

Reread: Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. I lovedddd this book, and I totally need to reread this because I’m totally forgetting the epicness of it. This definitely was historical fiction YA done so right.

Okay, also, did you notice how all my books ended up with the same color scheme? I’m so impressed with myself and the Goodreads Random Sort function. Also, I just did three rounds, because I was afraid to mess that color scheme up. XD Priorities. Thanks so much, Ava!

Tag…you’re it*

*in the nicest way possible and totally feel free not to do it, of course.

    1. From the posts I’ve seen from you, I hadn’t seen you do any (and as you said, time is definitely the biggest reason), but I figured I would tag just in case. Totally interested to see what books would end up in your piles, but totally get it if not. XD

  1. Thank you for the tag! I’ll add this to my list 🙂

I’m kind of intrigued by Out of the Easy… Would you recommend it? I’ve heard mixed things about Ruta Sepetys…

    1. Cool, I can’t wait to see it! And I’ve only read one book by her, and that was Out of the Easy. I realllllly enjoyed. There were a few parts that did get a little dull or slow, but as a whole, it was a fascinating story with good characters and the setting was really cool. I definitely would recommend.

  2. Hahahaha great tag! I haven’t read some of these but am definitely intrigued by them! This seems like a fun post…I have a couple books I would like to burn (but not really because that is just disrespectful! and also a hazard) Maybe they’ll come up in my random search maybe not….we shall see! Great post Mandy, and thanks for the tag!

    1. Ahahahahaha yes, yes, I totally agree about the hazard. Watch burning one would burn them all and it would just go downhill. Best to avoid it all together. But hopefully and you won’t have to burn good books. Thanks, Rendz!! 😀

    1. Lol, and they were really random, so I’m super impressed. Good job, Goodreads. XD And thank you so much! I really was so hard (why I did three rounds because I couldn’t take choosing between six more D:). Thanks so much again, Sydney! 🙂

    1. YES, I SUPER AGREE. Everyone always talks about Between Shades of Gray and Salt to the Sea and I’m always like…where is Out of the Easy? It was so good. I’m so glad you enjoyed it, too!! For me, it’s always one of those quiet books you love. I’m so excited to find another person that knows and enjoyed it too! 😀

  3. Ooh, thanks for tagging me!! I’ve always wanted to do this tag. (Also I had no idea there was a randomizer on Goodreads either lol) And I definitely need to add Out of the Easy to my TBR – I actually don’t think I read a YA historical fiction before??

    1. You’re welcome! I really didn’t. I couldn’t even figure out how to find it and then had a hard time shutting it off. But it was kind of cool to see all the random old books that popped up there I had read. And yes!! That is literally the perfect YA historical fiction book to get into it too. I think that was the first one I really got into.
