If you’ve been somehow following my fangirl ramblings for the past month or so, you may remember I had some struggles with A Court of Thorns and Roses. I couldn’t get into, I wasn’t invested or in love with any of the characters, and I got super upset because I wasn’t shipping the right person. Therefore, I had an epic DNF, and I thought I was forever done and was donning my book hipster hat.

But then a great deal of lovely bloggers convinced me to give it another try. And somehow, the moment I picked it back up, I was invested. I was propelled by the storyline and couldn’t stop reading. Now, I ended up giving it 3 stars at the end since I did find it to be problematic in areas, but trust me, I was very entertained within those three stars.

I went into A Court of Mist and Fury, knowing I was going to encounter one of two things thanks to advice from the lovely blog community again: I was either going to loveeeeeeeeeee it or find myself bored and disconnected due to the characters. And I have to agree – this is a very character driven novel, and while it does have a lot plot and action involved, if you’re not invested in the characters and didn’t love them, there’s a good chance this book might not be for you – and even though I didn’t enjoy them in the first novel, I actually really came to grow ridiculously invested in them by the end of this book and I’m now in the worst book hangover ever and just want my ships to sail so badly.

Tiana isn’t too sure about the Court of Nightmares…she thinks they wouldn’t have any good desserts and that is not okay with her.

This book reminded me of a soap opera – actually, more specifically, why I enjoyed soap operas and became addicted to them. There was Drama (yes, with a capital D), problematic characters, and all sorts of madness – yet I loved every second of it. It was so dishy and soapy, and I think that was how I managed to binge this practically in three sittings. It was like I was catching up on my daily soap.

Now, I’m going to try and do this spoiler free since I know a lot of people have yet to start to the series but I’m going to detonate when there is spoilers!

I wasn’t really a fan of any of the characters in the first book. I never connected with Feyre, Tamlin, or anyone else. I liked Lucien probably the best but I still was kind of eh about him. Anyway, I wasn’t holding out much hope for me to fall in love with any of the characters in this book, but goodness, I was wrong. Now, I still have some issues with Feyre, but I actually really enjoyed and liked her in this book compared to the last. I actually rooted for her at points, and I do believe she grew a lot from the first book.

I actually really enjoyed the new characters we meet in the book. I loveddddd the Night Court crew, and omigosh, there were a lot of new ships for me that I couldn’t handle it. I just want them alllllllllll to sail. Like, pronto. THE FEELS. MY HEART. But each of these characters were fun, and the friendship that they had really entertained me. I didn’t hate or dislike any of the new additions, and I can’t wait to see where they all go next.

Because I never got into Feyre and Tamlin, I never got into the ship either. ***SPOILERSSSSSSS: Probably since I knew ahead of time that Feyre was going to end up with Rhysand, I had already committed to their ship. Therefore, I didn’t have a bad reaction to Tamlin’s characterization going INSANELY off the rails and Feyre ending up with a certain broody,  Night Court leader. I was already invested in their ship before I read the books, so getting the validation of it in this one made me a happy swooner. I was 120% for Rhysand and Feyre and the feels were so real. I’m still feeling them now. XD But seriously, though, Tamlin’s characterization 180 turn was insaneeeee. I didn’t fully believe it, but remember, I was thinking of this as a soap opera, and I may or may have chopped all of Tamlin’s crazy behavior to him having his crazy, evil twin take over. THAT was believable. 😉 END OF SPOILERSSSSSS***

Rapunzel is all about this ship…although Tamlin probably needed a few frying pans to the head.

The plot was…interesting? I mean, there was one at some points, but the book totally lost it at others. I would just sit there going, are they supposed to be searching for something? Because they really aren’t searching. They kind of suck at it. XD As I said, it’s a very character-driven book and you have to want to be focused on that to really enjoy it. I did loveeeeeee them visiting other Courts, though. I’m really hoping we get to seem more of them in the future one. ME WANTS OTHER PRETTY COURTS.

Overall, this was a totalllllllllll turnabout for me from the other book. I blew through this one, and it gave me the most drastic book hangover ever. I’m still in it, and I won’t be satisfied until I get the third book. I’m so into this series now: for the characters, the world, the feels, the ship, EVERYTHING. It can be a little soap opera trashy at parts and problematic, but there is just so much enjoyment. I have to say, the sequel was soo much better than the first – and isn’t that so weird?
