PREMISE OF DESERT ISLAND DISCS…
You are cast away onto a remote island:
- You can bring 5 albums, what are they?
- You can bring ONE book (not including The Bible (or other appropriate religious texts) or The Complete Works of Shakespeare, as they are already provided and NO SERIES), what ONE book is it?
- You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island), what is it?
MY ANSWERS…
The 5 Albums
All This Bad Blood by Bastille
Bastille is my favorite band everrrrrrr, and while I love their second album so fiercely, the first one where it is at for me. Out of 25 songs on this two CD collection, I only dislike 2. These songs are moody and broody and so addicting. I still listen to this on repeat continuously. And I think I’ll be needing something when I’m feeling broody and sad, because, you know, I”ll be stuck on a desert island.
Current favorite since it changes so often: “Laura Palmer”
The Wanted EP by The Wanted
Fun fact: I had a boy band addiction back in the day. I blame it on my childhood. You had *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys filling my ears as a kid, so I bound to be entranced again when The Wanted, One Direction, and Big Time Rush came on the scene. I never fell in love with One Direction or Big Time Rush although I would jam to their occasional song or go on passionate rants about their lack of coordinating outfits and synchronized dance moves. ANYWAY, the boy band I loved was The Wanted. They’re still my jam today, and this was the American EP that sold me on them. Boy band love will definitely be needed on the island.
Favorite Song: Typically cliche but still a fave: “Glad You Came”
Disney’s Greatest, Vol. 1 by Disney
That’s right – Disney compilation album for the win. There are soooo many good Disney jams on this album that even though I’ll be stuck on the desert island, I’ll be super happy because DISNEY. This will definitely be bringing me a little slice of happy. Although, I’m super disappointed that “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Mulan isn’t on here. Much sadness, but it does have some other fantastic songs, which is why it’s included.
Favorite Song: “Once Upon a Dream”
Ever After by Marianas Trench
Is it any surprise that this Book Princess loved an album who is basically a messed up fairytale? Seriously, this album was a masterpiece with how it spun a story, and the music videos that accompany it was totally Babes in Toyland meets angsty romance. It’s so wonderfully fairytale soap operay. Plus, the songs are so catchy that I’ll be singing them around the whole deserted island for days.
Favorite Song: “Toy Soliders”
Phantom of the Opera soundtrack by Phantom of the Opera cast
Last year, I fell in deeeeeeeep with my Phantom of the Opera love. IT WAS JUST SO GOOD. THE FEELS. THE ANGST. THE ROMANCE. THE MUSIC. DID I SAY THE FEELS? Everything about it is just so good (also the reason I read Roseblood this year XD), and even though I’m really not super into “show tunes” this CD is my jammmmm. Occasionally I find these haunting melodies haunting my dreams, so it’ll be good to have this albums with me on the desert island when I can’t remember all the words correctly to “All I Ask of You.”
Favorite Song: “All I Ask of You”
*All images for these albums were grabbed off Google*
My Book
I had a serious, hard think over this. There were a lot of books up for the title of the book I would pick to bring and cherish with me forever on my desert island stay, but after gazing at my favorite shelf, it came to me: Winter by Marissa Meyer. It isn’t my favorite of hers in this series (Cress holds that title), but it is the culmination of everything good and brilliant in that series. It has all four amazing ships, Iko being amazing, and so much more. It holds my favorite Cresswell scenes, and it’s massive so I could get more than a few reads out of it.
My Item
I would probably do what Zuky did and bring a beloved stuffed animal from my childhood. Not only does it bring the feels back from childhood and be a total comfort, it could also work well as a fluffy pillow. XD See, I’m thinking practically and emotionally – aren’t I a multi-tasker?
Tag…you’re it*!
*in the most polite way possible, as in please feel free not to do it if you wish but it is rather fun 😉
Reading With Rendz / Nadwa @ painfully fictional / Jannin @ The Booknerd Dragon / icebreaker694 (I think you said you might be a bit behind but I wasn’t sure so I tagged anyway XD) / Sophie @ Blame Chocolate / Evy Loves Books / amysbookcorner /
And you? Maybe? Please? 😉
What do you think? What are some of your answers for these? What albums or books would you choose? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
Update: I failed and totally thought today was the last day for Round 5 – it’s actually Round 6 for Book Madness, and Inej made it!! Thank you so much and proper thanks/info coming tomorrow. However, if you’re feeling it now, here’s where you can vote: here!
This is such a brilliant tag, I love your answers as well!! I love the multi tasking there, emotional and practical help all in one 😉

Thanks so much! Zuky did such a great job with it. LOL, I really had to put in my thinking hat on for this one to try and get it all. Thanks again! 😀

Yes! I super agree! 😀 Lol, I’m not sure I’ll actually want any of these on a desert island if I were ever there, but at least I thought it through? XD

Haha, oh well, yeah, you thought that one through haha. I have no idea what I would take with me but I feel like the toy idea was a good one haha 🙂

I’m always the worst to think of things to take for those situations. I’ve seen a lot of questions like, what book would you grab in case of a fire and I’m like, oh gosh, I would probably just stare at the bookcase going AHHHHHHH. But yes, at least it would bring comfort?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha, I know, like can I not just bring all my books??! 😉 Omg, if I was put in that situation where I had to choose which book I wanted to choose, I don’t know what I’d do, I mean, should you choose the one you enjoy the most, or the one you feel will be worth any money. I mean, if your house is on fire, you might need that extra cash haha 🙂

Oooooh, that’s a fantastic point. I always think, just grabbed the signed ones!! But that works for both – they have more meaning and they would totally be the ones worth more. XD But it is a hard choice. I’m too indecisive for questions like that. XD But I might be considering your idea if I ever get into that situation. *fingers crossed I never do*
LikeLiked by 1 person
That’s a good idea, take the signed ones as they’re probably worth more anyway haha 🙂 I really hope neither of us are ever in a situation where we have to decide between books!! No one should ever have to be in that situation! 😉

NO. It would be very mean of the universe to do it to the book lovers. But thank you. I occasionally try with my good ideas. XD

Haha, I feel like universe could not be that mean to us, surely?! 🙂 🙂

I’ve never heard of Marianas Trench. I guess I will have to listen? Is it a soundtrack or something?
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, they’re a Canadian pop-punk band. They tend to a lot of concept albums, so it’s kind of like a soundtrack in a sense? So they pick a theme and make a lot of poppy alternative music around it, lol. XD

Thank you so much for the tag Mandy! This looks like so much fun! Great choices 😍

OOOOOOOOOO I love this tag. But it is so restricted…it won’t let me bend the rules….you know how much I like to cheat when it comes to picking 1 book. There is no shame Mandy, we all had our boy band days. We still do sometimes XD Disney albums FTW!!!!!!!! I have never watched or listened to the album of the Phantom of the Opera but I reeeaaaalllyyy want to! WINTER YAY TLC!!!!!!!! Picking one book is so hard! But Winter would be great. All the ships have cute moments (CRESSWELL!!!!!), so much action and a happily ever after 😉 I would not even know what item to bring but a stuffed animal does sound comforting! Great answers and thanks for the tag!!

Lol, I know! Zuky totally knew all the ways to get the little sneaky ways. D: Lol, I’ve managed to put my boy band days on hold for a tiny bit…although there isn’t any out right now and who knows what will happen when a new one appears. o.o IT IS SO GOOD, RENDZ. I always brushed it off, but it’s just so haunting and beautiful. :O I liked the music from the 2004 movie the best, tbh. Not the original, original one. I had to pick a TLC book, and we know how epic Cress is, but I’m like, then I would miss all of Winter’s hilarious epics and the two epic Cresswell scenes, and it is massive so I had to go for it. XD and lol, ik. I stole it from the original tag because I was at such a loss. XD Thanks so much, and can’t wait to see yours!!

Wow this is such a cool tag, I really appreciate you thinking of me!!! Thank you so much! I’ve never seen the movie version of Phantom of the Opera, just the 25th Anniversary edition. But I still really love it, and the soundtrack is fantastic! Great answers! Can’t wait to do the tag!

I’ve seen both the 25th Anniversary and the movie and they are both equally fantastic. The music, the acting, everything. But thanks so much! I can’t wait to see what your answers are. 😀

Thanks for tagging me in the first place, since it was so much fun! 😀 You did such an amazing job for it. And lol, thank you. I stole your idea in the first place because it was so genius with the teddy but I thought it decently smart to use as a pillow too. XD

Yessssssss, so much agreement! I wasn’t a fan of Daniel at first, but now it’s one of my favorites. And I really didn’t realize how amazing a whole album could be until then.

Ahhhhh, Ever After is one of my all time favourite albums!!! What a masterpiece ❤ I haven't met many people in my life who love Marianas Trench so I always get pretty excited when I DO stumble across someone! Just thought I'd share 😀

LOL, SAME. I’ve only met one other person who loved them – and she was the person that actually got me into them so I’m not sure it counts. XD Was that your favorite by them or was one of the other ones your favorite? But I’m so glad because they were just amazing and it’s so rare to find a lover of them.

Mm, I also REALLY love Masterpiece Theatre but Ever After is definitely my favourite album ❤ The songs just mean a lot to me and bring back sooo many great memories! And I just get so happy whenever I listen to that album. UGH, I could talk about it for days!! I'd totally bring it on a deserted island with me 😀

YAY, BIRDIE. It’s so true. I literally get so excited when I see even someone mention them in the slightest because it is so rare (I found another book blogger who mentioned she had sort of enjoy them and I think I might have scared her with my intense fangirling over them XD). What was your favorite song?

I can’t even pick! I love Warzone. Rocket, that one always makes me feel powerful like I can do anything. I love Love Sewn, and Heart Vacancy. Golden… that one’s beautiful. The day they announced they were ‘taking a break’ I was riding home in my car and Gold Forever came on, and the lyrics hit me harder and I actually cried, haha. I’m so glad I finally got to see them in concert, especially before they broke up. It was such a great concert, in a smaller venue here in the US so we were really close to the stage. I loved it!

Ooooh Warzone and Rocket were super faves on that EP. Love Sewn was so good too. Ugh, as you said, it’s so hard to just pick one. I also really loved If We’re Alright and Running Out Of Reasons from Word Of Mouth, which literally got so little press and love, but it was so good. And oh gosh, I would have too if they played that. I did a lot of NO NO NO when I found out. But ooooh, that’s so nice. I missed my opportunity sadly, but I can’t imagine what it would have been like to be so near. From the old videos, they seemed like they sounded the same in person as they did on the record?

Awh, that sounds amazing. I wish too. Evil WordPress is messing with our Wanted love. But yes! I’m a bit digital music person, and that was the album I literally ran up to the closest place that day to buy it because I just had to listen to it and was literally peeling it apart in the parking lot to stick it in.

Hahaha I knew you would give in to the Disney love… (Who wouldn’t?) But no “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”? Are you kidding me??? That’s like on my top 3 Disney songs! *My father will hear about this…*
I like Bastille as well but unfortunately can’t say anything about the others. I trust your judgement, though!
And Winter would definitely be a fine choice for a desert island book. The feels!
Again, thank you loads for the tag, lovely ❤

LOL, I KNOW. I was so upset. Like, okay, Reflection is lovely and all, BUT I’LL MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU IS WHERE IT IS AT. You can’t burst out into song with Reflection. -_- They made later versions of the albums, so perhaps it made it there, but STILL.
And yay for Bastille! 😀 They are my ultimate jam.
And can’t wait to see your own answers, Sophie!! 😀

EXACTLY! OMG! These people know nothing. How could they have made it this far in life and fame, I have no idea.
And I’m excited about it too! But, ugh, I don’t know when I’ll ever get to it… So many tags XD
When Bastille first exploded I listened to it almost on a daily basis and never got tired, but I move on super fast hahaha Every week is different! Need to get back to it, though 🙂

I KNOW. We should have a talk with them.
And lol, I was making a super good dent into it for a while and now I’m just at a standstill and it’s like…I’m working on it. D: Just prepare you don’t see. XD
And yes!! How you tried their second album? That might be a good way to get back in the grove, because I was doing the same thing with tha tone as well.
