Okay, I was really had a lot of warm, gooey feelings for this book when I finished, but now I can’t really remember it (even thought I couldn’t have finished this more than 2 weeks ago). I’m not sure how well that bodes for this book, but I did enjoy it overall.

Once Upon a Time…

Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom. Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.

Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

So, this story really brings nothing new to the high school contemporary genre – but it is rather adorable. It follows a lot of the same tropes and clichés, but if you can handle the mindless gooiness, then you’re in for a fluffy book full of fun and heart.

I did enjoy Kate as a narrator. I really connected with her over her fangirling and OTP spewing excitement. She totally had her ships, and she went hardcore for them – which, um, you might have noticed I do as well? *looks around innocently* It was super cute to see her try and explain it to Cooper was fun to see. Also, Olicity from Arrow is totally a super epic ship, so I immediately liked her more.

It was interesting as well to see some of the story from Cooper’s point of view. Usually in a fluffy book, we don’t usually get a male POV – and especially not a realistic one, but Cooper was a great main character. I enjoyed him, and I appreciated the fact that he had more going on to him than just being the love interest – although I will admit that I did skim those parts even though I did appreciate it. XD

Ariel is back…and totally fit to go to prom in this dress!

I also loved the aspect of the rowing. That was a unique way to get Kate and Cooper together, and you don’t usually see much about the sport in general.

I did like the romance. Kate and Cooper seemed to have a natural chemistry, and I enjoyed them together. It was so easy to ship them, and I really got into this book for their romance.

Overall, this book was really cute. There was one big issue I thought I had with it – but honestly, I can’t remember it. XD Perhaps that was the big issue? I also wasn’t super fond of the side stories since I felt the real story led in the romance between them…and the rest of the stuff was just kind of flat. Ugh, I feel like this was the issue, but I can’t really remember. Eh, oh well. It was a cute read. Four stars, and an Ariel rating!
