How to Train Your Dragon Book Tag

I would like to thank Ava @ Reads, Rhythms, and Ruminations for this adorable and fun book tag. Please check out her wonderful blog – it’s where I go for any anime advice I need and also for tons of bookish fun! Check it out here!

I haven’t actually seen this movie yet – le gasp! The Book Princess hasn’t seen an adorable animated dragon movie? But probably it was me being a Disney snobbist and now I super want to see it because Toothless looks so cuddly. Anyhoo, let’s begin!

hiccup1

Hiccup started out as a failure to his people. He wasn’t adept at dragon killing. Suddenly, he knows the ins and outs of the creatures he is supposed to despise. He becomes popular, and in turn he tries to use his fame to create an alliance between the humans and the dragons. In the end, he changes the minds and hearts of everyone in Berk.

Ummmmmm…huh. I haven’t really started any books, stopped, and then picked up again. If I DNF, it’s usually for good. UMMM. Maybe Princess of Tyrone by Katie Hamstead? It took me a while to get into it because I just didn’t want to read at the time (in the middle of a burnout), but it was soooo good at the end.

astrid2

Astrid is the fierce female viking. She is strong and smart, the perfect contender to be a dragon killer. She is suspicious of Hiccup and eventually discovers his secret. Once she sees the beauty in and of the dragons, she is usually by Hiccup’s side. She stands for her beliefs and helps her friend to the very end.

six-of-crows

SIX OF CROWS. Come on, didn’t you see that coming, lol? Either Nina or Inej are amazingly strong heroines, and they kick some major butt. Independent, feisty, and just all around epicness.

stoick1

Stoick the Vast. He is the leader of the vikings of Berk. He is strong, determined, and caring. He can be thoughtless, but he does feel responsible for his people. He loves his family. After a while, he sees reason and recognizes his son’s greatness. He is a proud man, but he is even more proud of his son in the end.

cinder

Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer…whoa. I think this is the first time that I actually Cinder in a tag answer. She is such a fierce leader, but I’m always just screaming CRESSWELL and then dissolving into fangirl nonsense. But CINDER! I would take her as a leader any day!

valka1

Valka goes out on her own to live with the dragons. She knows untold secrets and comes out of nowhere in the second movie. She sees the world in a different light, like her son. Nowadays, most books are a part of a series. Authors have a hard time containing their words and creative worlds = lucky us!

Princess of Tyrone again! It’s such a fantastic read, and I honestly didn’t think I was going to be as wowed as I was by it. It’s my favorite Sleeping Beauty retelling ever, and it deserves more than indie status!

gobber1

Gobber is loyal and funny. He is a teacher, friend, blacksmith, and so much more. He supports Stoick and Valka, Hiccup, and all others. “He’s a bit gruff, but his heart is always in the right place.” (credit) If you were Gobber, which book characters would you ship?

LOL. Oh dear gosh. How long do we have? We could be here for hours. Well, to name a few: all the ships from TLC by Marissa Meyer (Cresswell is my clear fave XD), all the ships from SOC by Leigh Bardugo, Duval and Ismae from Grave Mercy, Logan and Maddie from The Summer I Became a Nerd…and so much more! I’m such a hardcore shipper that I should become a boat captain at this point.

snotlout1

Snotlout is impulsive. He speaks his mind and does what he wants. He is rude and also flirty. If he was a book lover, I’m sure he would buy a book because of an enticing cover, intriguing synopsis, or just because he can. Is there a book that you bought simply because?

15258547_610941362424107_6777970434794061824_n

The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James! I was just super in the mood for a ghost story and it sounded okayish and I needed a book to fill up my cart in order to use a coupon, so I bought it. Turned out to be one of my best purchases ever!

ruffandtuff

Family and friends are the most important aspect in one’s life. Sometimes the representations in books are optimal (while other times the representation is non-existent). Books can contain perfect, desirable relationships that we all want to be a part of, so choose a book with a family or friend bond that you wish were real in your own life.

Okay, I just finished reading this book, Operation Prom Date by Cindi Madsen, and I thought that Cooper and Kate’s friendship was so adorable! I would definitely love to be in their shipping conversations and me and Kate could totally fangirl over Olicity together…and I would be such a better explainer than she was to Cooper. Although…there was too much hugging for my taste in this relationship. Farrrrr too much.

fishlegs1

Fishlegs is intelligent. He knows dragons by the book, and by the book only. He inspires knowledge in himself and in others. As with Fishlegs, sometimes books make one want to learn something new, research a new topic, try a new experience, or go somewhere exciting. Name a book that makes you want to expand you horizons.

16122478_1739104079737609_2006044520902295552_n1

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! I wanted to be all science-y for a hot second and find out if a gemina particle really did exist…and then I gave up because Mandy is not the science-y Book Princess kind of gal.

toothless1

Toothless is a Night Fury. He is the only one left of his kind, making him extremely rare. He is loyal, fast, intelligent, and cute. Find the bookish equivalent to Toothless, a novel that is not read too often/under-hyped that you adore.

16123519_449033115486244_7126657934540406784_n

A lot of books on my favorites shelf on Goodreads actually are super under-hyped. However, one that I might mention is The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee! I never see much about this book, and it was so beautifully done!

boulder-class1

Those in the Boulder Class are solid and resilient. Meatlug in particular is tough, obstinate, slow, and lazy. Sometimes it is hard to pick up the motivation one needs to complete a task. Other times, there are bumps in the road, rocky obstacles that get in one’s way. Despite the struggle, we have to rise about the challenge and persevere.

…can I just say Inej from SOC again? Because it’s so true! She had horrible things done to her, but she came back stronger than ever and so kick butt.

mystery-class

Not much is known about the Mystery Class, hence the name. Dragons in this class are cunning and stealthy making them feared above the others. Barf and Belch are a part of this conundrum. While they share one body, each head has it’s own personality. To be effective they must work together.

16110352_279284152489821_7900099944466350080_n

This is Our Story by Ashley Elston! This was such a great mystery, and I was so until it…until I spoiled it for myself, but still very into it!

sharp-class

“Sharp Class dragons are vain and prideful, and they all possess sharp body parts.” (credit) These dragons are sleek and shine, honor and self-respect. They are beautiful and graceful with their pointed limbs and they know it.

shadow-and-bone

That one girl from Shadow and Bone. I literally can’t remember her name. I think it began with a G? Oh, my Leigh Bardugo fangirl feels are so disappointed with me.But she could adjust her face and stuff. Dear gosh, me.

stoker-class

Stoker dragons are small and unruly. They can literally set themselves on fire making them hotheaded. This class is an explosion in a tiny package. Find a book that is small, in physical size or page number, that is full of action, mystery, or willful characters.

wires-and-nerves

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer! This book was so tiny to read – due to the graphic novel format – but it was so good and brought back so many TLC feels.

strike-class

Rare, powerful, inflexible, and loyal. These are some of the descriptor words for a dragon in the Strike Class. More prominent traits of the Strike Class also include blazing speed, cleverness, strength, and navigation. They are very rare, but very mighty. They are like a wild mustang horse: hard to train but loyal in the end.

Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen! I read this book within 3 hours in one epic binge read. Review coming tomorrow for it!

tidal-class

As the title suggests, Tigal dragons are associated with water, specifically the ocean. Those in this class are usually larger than most other classes. Water can be soothing, but not with dragons. For most book lovers, we enjoy a relaxing read near the water (as long as your book doesn’t get wet). For dragons, find a book that matches their habitat in setting.

15251773_1643070742658779_5071542407258963968_n

Fear the Drowning Deep by Sarah Glenn Marsh! The coastal town setting was so ridiculously cool for this novel, and it gave it such a haunting atmosphere. The ocean was both beautiful and dangerous in this story.

tracker-class

“Natural born hunters, Tracker Class dragons have a highly acute sense of smell or taste that enables them to track down and find things.” (credit) Sadly, we humans are not trackers. There are some forms of books that are hard to find, like versions from other countries, special editions, hardcopy VS. paperback, ARCs, and more. Like Stormfly, these books are a torturing “mix of beauty and brutality.”

The Book Jumper! No library will give it to me, and it’s so expensive at the bookstores. D:

unknown-class-1

There is a lack of knowledge about these dragons, so they have not yet been classified. They could be sorted in the future, but until then they are stuck in the shadows of information. Like debut authors and their books, they are new and haven’t had quite as much publicity and appearances in the book world to be fully understood.

When Dimple Met Rishi! It looks so adorable and cute and my pre-order can’t get here fast enough!

eel1

Ummmmmmm…there are a few books that I don’t want to particularly read, but maybe some of the classics? I’m not sure. There isn’t one that is just screaming, I SHALL NEVER READ YOU.

Wow, there was a lot of dragons, lol. But it was a lot of fun! Thanks so much again to Ava! And here are a few tags for fun (but don’t feel like you have to do it!):

    1. I had to since you are the Book Nerd Dragon now! 😉 And ahhhhh okay, I need to get on it! I was supposed to watch it with my friends and then they watched it without me and I just haven’t gotten to it lately. I will definitely bump it super up on the TB…TBW (to be watched, lol – I’m so used to the TBR XD).

    1. Thanks so much, Ava, and thanks for tagging me again! It was long but fun, lol. XD
And yay for new books! I have to say that tags are where I get so many new books that walking out of one causes my TBR to hate me. XD And yes to Cinder! 😀
Thanks so much, Ava, and you as well! 😀

  2. So I need to read Six of Crows ASAP! Mandy, you’ve made me see the light, thank you XD
Genia was totally such a vain character… But because she revealed to be so much more underneath, and having gone through so much crap, I find that’s a very small part of her, you know? (I find it hilarious that you didn’t remember her name, though hahaha!)
I’m super curious about This is Our Story now. I’ve heard people say it’s mind-blowing and I really want to know why XD Without spoiling myself, if possible!
Great post, darling, as always ❤

    1. Omg, yesssssssssssss, Sophie! It’s so good. Intriguing plot twists, strong females, and amazing ships.
Omg yes! That was her name. I kept wanting to say Zoya, but I knew that was wrong. But it is interesting her back story though.
Yes! It is super good. I’m not sure mind blowing is what I would say for me, but it is one of the best YA mysteries Ive read. And it’s super good not to get spoilers for it because I ruined it for myself a bit and I realized it could have been super amazing had I not done that.
And thanks so much, Sophie! I’m glD I finally got you on the SOC train!

      1. I loved the Grisha trilogy and read all the novellas too, so I definitely want to get into SOC! But I kind of forget? Lol and I also have a couple other books/review requests to finish first.
My TBR is such a mess… Hahaha but don’t worry, I’ll definitely read it soon! 🙂 Thanks for the extra encouragement!

      2. LOL. Yeah, I could see that. There are so many books on the TBR…it never seems to stop, so I can understand where it could get lost in the shuffle. You’re going to love it, though. 😀 But oh dear. XD I wish you luck getting through the mess. D:
