January Wrap-Up/February TBR

This month has got to be a record for me. I’m not even sure I how ended up reading as many books as I did, but nonetheless, I’m super impressed with myself…and my lack of a life other than books. XD Pat on the back, though?

I read a 20 (20?!!) total of  books. They include:

I did read two more books, but I won’t be reviewing them here so I didn’t include them.

Now, if you remember, this is quite a bit different than the TBR I set in December. I had very good intentions, but I fell into the Simone St. James void of fantastic writing. That definitely caused a wonderful and amazing stop on the book train, but definitely screwed up my TBR…and has gotten me majorly behind on my reviews. XD

I DNF’d Gilded Cage, The Dragon’s Price, and Proof of Lies, so I would recommend these reads the least. I just couldn’t get into any of these, and it was super sad since I was so excited for the first two of these.

Gemina and any of the Simone St. James books gave me the most heart eyes, and all of them are classic favorites and even had multiple Princess visits. I recommend picking up a copy of these this instance. The Secret of a Heart Note brought the most surprise this month, and it along with Under Rose-Tainted Skies were such beautiful reads.

Overall, a very impressive book month for me, and while it wasn’t quite what I expected to end up reading, I’m definitely pretty glad I devoured all of these books and got some of my most anticipated 2017 reads checked out!

Now, onto February…

Due to January being the month of YA book dreams with a huge amount of my most anticipated books coming out, I have a ton of books that will be arriving on my doorstep very, very soon. Which means Mandy will want to devour the moment she stops caressing their beautiful covers. XD Plus, I accidentally (okay, fine, totally not accidentally) got approved for a ton of books on Netgalley that are coming out in February and March, which means I need to get my book butt in gear. Here is a list of what I will most assuredly be sticking with for my February TBR:

This is my tentative TBR, but for once, I have a super good chance of actually completing it, since I literally can’t wait to read all of these books. A great deal of these are books I’ve waited to read for months, and I’m pretty sure my fangirling will be at an all time high this month. Wish my fangirling heart some luck, because it might just explode.

Most Anticipated Reads? Caraval, By Your Side, Wires and Nerve, and The Perfect Stranger.

Least Anticipated? The two books in the Red Queen series. I’m quite a bit more excited for Glass Sword, but I’ve seen a few reviews that Cruel Crown is a bit harder to get into since you don’t really need to read it to further the story along.

  2. I started Cruel Crown a couple of months ago and instantly DNFd it. I found Glass Sword to be way better than Red Queen though! I really hope you’ll enjoy it. And I’m honestly super excited for you to start reading Wires & Nerve! It personally feels like your opinion of TLC books will definitely reflect my own. I’ll be hunting for it at my local bookstore and I’ll getting it asap!! And I’m honestly jealous of your January reading stats!

    1. That’s what happened to me. I tried it a few days ago, read about 5 pages, texted my friend and asked her if it got more interesting, and resolved to DNF it before she even answered back. XD I’m not a big fan of those prequel books, and this one just seemed extra unnecessary. I’m super glad you enjoyed Glass Sword more, because I wasn’t the biggest fan of Red Queen. This makes me excited, though! And yesssssssssss. I’m supposed to receive it today, and the moment I get my hands on it, I will be hopefully doing a binge read. XD I do hope we match, but since we love the same things about it, I’m thinking so too. XD I hope you get it super soon!!! I’ll try and send some book fairies to help out. And thank you. XD It’s not having any life, lol XD

      1. I totally understand. But I honestly hate DNFing books, especially when it’s a physical copy, it feels like I’ve wasted money on a less-than-average book when instead I could’ve gotten one that I’ve been highly anticipating, you know? And the Red Queen world is so complex and confusing, which makes an even more complicated prequel, something that I didn’t find worth reading, to be honest. I’m going to contact the bookstore soon! They either get a book before the release date or long after, there’s no in-between! But if I had to cross the ocean, I will be getting my hands on that masterpiece. Besides, my little sister is also a TLC fanatic and she’d literally do anything to get Wires & Nerve too. I will be waiting for your review though!! I’m super excited 😍💘

      2. I sooooo agree. It feels like you owe it to yourself when you spent all the money on it. I agree, though. I didn’t understand why I had to know about Cal’s mom? Like, I wasn’t sure what it would add. And ahhhhhhhhh, silly bookstore! Hopefully this one will be the super close one, and not the long after. D: You will have to let me know the moment that you get it. 😀

    1. I did!! I didn’t know what to expect going in, but it was soooo good. I can see why it’s your favorites, because I definitely enjoyed. The ways she weaved in the Sleeping Beauty storyline, too, was so cool.

      1. She surprised me! I had just joined Netgalley and had been on for a short time…I saw this cover and fell in love, and I was over the moon when I was approved. I have been waiting for the next installment and apparently it’s coming out very soon.
        I think this is one of those indie books that should be picked up by a big pub and shared with the world. (I also love retellings)

      2. That cover definitely draws you in, but I so agree that it should be picked up by a big pub. It’s so much better than any of the Sleeping Beauty retellings that I have read by the big pubs. But yes, I think I heard March for the second installment? Maybe I’m just hearing thing? XD

      3. Nope…you heard right! And we are on the list for the next one! She’s a really sweet person. I found the book on Netgalley over the summer, and I guess Jas liked the review and reached out to her…I am also planning on reading her Kiya series. But I’m very excited to know what happens next!

      7. I know! Esp since it feels like I’ve been blogging forever! My blog also is offset bc it told me I just had a three year anniversary, but I stared my blog in June. Then I realized it was bc I used to read The Simpsons: Tapped Out blog for my game, and it was a WP blog, so to comment you had to have a WP account (esp if you wanted a user pic). So I guess I had a blog that was sitting for 2.5 years before I started using it. So it makes it really hard to keep track, lol!

  4. I can’t wait for my copy of Wire and Nerve to arrive. So excited! I gave up anything to do with Red Queen after I tried and failed to get into Glass Sword, which is a shame since I really liked the first book. Oh well.

    1. IK! Supposedly mine will be coming today, and I’m already trying not to stalk the door…and delivery man. XD And oh no! Was there an issue with the plot or characters that made you not get into it?

      1. I’ve not had a delivery date for my copy yet even though I ordered it the day before it was released. In terms of Glass Sword, I started reading it but I was instantly bored because it seemed to take a long time for the story to get moving.

      2. Oh no!! I hope it arrives soon for you, though! And oh gosh. That was the issue I had with the first book, and hoping it wouldn’t reappear in the second. 😛 That’s good to know, though, so I’m not expecting much from the beginning. 😛

      3. I hope so too! 😃 I didn’t have any problems with Red Queen, just Glass Sword. I was miffed at first but now I’m not bothered by it at all.

    1. I think probably. I haven’t read too much about it so far (trying to keep myself away from spoilers), but I think you need a good grasp of the world and the characters before reading it to really enjoy it and kind of know what is going on. I would probably recommend doing that, although I haven’t seen too much about it possibly being standalone so I could be wrong. And sometimes those ebook copies take forever to get – hopefully yours comes soon!

      1. Ahh. I’ve heard the Lunar Chronicles is sci-fi, but I don’t know how sci-fi they are. After reading Illuminae I’m really weary of reading sci-fi again.

      2. It is sci-fi, but I will say that it is not as sci-fi as Illuminae was. Lunar Chronicles definitely focuses more on the relationships, the characters, the political intrigue, fairytale retellings, and the race for the crown more than the key sci=fi elements. There are some decently big sci-fi parts, but it definitely wasn’t as nearly overwhelming as Illuminae was.

      2. It’s just dry…like, really, really dry. It was like sensory overload a bit at first and then nothing makes me excited. I talked two other bloggers that said it was amazing…but I just found it super boring. It wasn’t terrible, though, that I would never think about ever touching it again.

  8. Wow! Twenty books is incredible! You’re an inspiration! I’m really excited to hear what you think of Caraval. I keep hearing all about it. Also Wires and Nerve. I love graphic novels, so I’m really intrigued by this crossover of sorts.

    1. Why thank you. XD I had no life, but who needs any other life besides book life? XD I have yet to start Caraval, but it has sooooo many good reviews that I can’t wait to read it. And I binge read Wires and Nerve a few days ago and it was amazingggggggggggg. Thanks so much again! 🙂
